Uniform

Once a child is enrolled, they are required by law to

attend school each day.

Some points to be aware of:

• If a child arrives late or leaves early, it is recorded as a

partial absence and must be explained by parents.

This is recorded at the front office.

• If your child is absent for the whole day it is recorded

as either justified or unjustified.

• Justified absences are sickness, having an

unavoidable medical appointment, attending a

recognised religious holiday or exceptional or urgent

family circumstances.

• An explanation for an absence, either verbal or

written, must be provided within 7 days.

Attendance

Once a child is enrolled, they are required by law to

attend school each day.

• If you are picking up a child early, please visit the

front office to sign out your child. No teacher will let a

child leave early without a slip from the office.

• If you are applying for leave for the purpose of travel

and the travel will be for more than 10 school days,

please complete an Application for Extended Leave

– Travel. If you are travelling for less than 10 days,

please advise your class teacher in writing.

Attendance

Please keep our students safe around our school. You can help by:

• Observing the road rules. • Avoid parking on the yellow lines near the intersections.

• Holding your child’s hand.

• Discussing road safety with your child.

Road Safety

If your child has a medical condition, please make an appointment with the class teacher early in Term 1 to ensure that they have all up-to-date information and procedures on how to manage your child’s condition. Medical conditions include anaphylaxis, allergies, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and all other medical conditions which have been diagnosed by a doctor.

Any medications sent to school must be handed in through the school office and labelled with your child’s name and date of birth. A permission to administer medication form must be completed for any medication to be administered which is not part of a health care plan.

Student Health

Students may carry asthma relievers (puffers such as Ventolin) in their bags or the classroom. Epipens are kept in the sick bay or in the classroom depending on the individual student plan. All other student medication is stored in the sick bay. Medication and emergency response plans are taken with the child whenever we leave the school grounds. Please inform the office and the class teacher in writing if there are any changes to your child’s health.

• Our newsletter is sent out each fortnight (even weeks) via the Skoolbag app. It can also be downloaded from our school website. To reduce paper, we do not send out paper copies but they are available at the front office.

• Parent notes are also available on our school website – There is a tab across the top – Newsletter and Notes.

• Parent / Teacher interviews will be held late in Term 1. Written Student Reports will be sent home in Term 2 & Term 4.

• If you have any concerns or questions, make an appointment to see your class teacher. If the issue continues, see the Assistant Principal for your grade or stage.

• We use the Skoolbag app to send out reminders and notices. If you turn on notifications within the app, these reminders will pop up on your phone. This app will also be used to communicate with parents in the case of an emergency.

Child Protection

Any visitors to our school must report to the front office.

If you are volunteering in classrooms or across the school, please

complete the Declaration for Volunteers and submit to the office a

long with identification.

The school is only accessible through the Taplan Street Gate during

school hours. For the safety of our students, please close the gate

behind you when entering and exiting.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning is implemented to establish consistent behaviour expectations and the consistent management of behaviour. There are behaviour expectations for all areas within the school. Students are to be safe, respectful and successful learners. Student expectations are displayed and are explicitly taught so that students, staff and parents are using a common language. These expectations have their foundation in our school values. At the beginning of each term, you will receive an outline of what topics will be covered for that term. It will include information about each key learning area and different activities students will participate in for the term.

A focus on Writing in 2019

• Miss Dean, our instructional leader in literacy will be visiting classes weekly. • Revision of the key elements of ‘Seven Steps to Writing Success.’ • Review of available data, including NAPLAN results, pre and post writing samples

2018 and annual school report. • Integrated programs and tasks for Writing and Geography. • Tracking of student data using the learning progressions for ‘creating texts.’ • Explicit Learning Intentions and Success Criteria (LISC) for all writing programs. • Consistent teacher judgment (CTJ) for marking writing using stage based rubrics. • Student self reflection and opportunities for feedback. • Writing goals for all students. • A plan for sharing quality student texts with families using SeeSaw (term 2). • Ongoing teacher collaboration across stages and with the Instructional Leader

(IL) • 4C’s evident throughout all programs (Collaboration, Creativity, Communication

and Critical Thinking.

Digital Technologies

Digital technologies is now a compulsory part of the NSW Science and Technology curriculum. Digital Technologies provides students with opportunities to investigate existing technologies and create digital solutions. Students explore the automation of repetitive tasks through developing their own software and by using existing software packages.

ICT supports students to be effective consumers of technology. Digital technologies moves students from technology consumers to CREATORS. This year Mr Taunton is our instructional leader in digital technologies three days a week. He will be working with all classes.

All students participate in Crunch and Sip each day.

This is a small snack during the first session of the day.
