Class Management
In our classroom we use a traffic light to help monitor behaviour and attitudes. Students start each day at green and may change throughout the day.
Green- on task, focused and doing what they should be doing.
Yellow- a warning that a
behaviour needs to change
Red- behaviour needs to
change immediately. There
will be time to talk to the teacher and a note will be sent home.
Caught in the Act· Caught in the Act is a behavioural plan
that encourages and rewards students for seeing the positive in themselves and their peers.
· “Coupons” are award to students names who are drawn at the end of each week.
HomeworkStudents will have homework some
nights. This will teach them responsibility and time management.
Marks are lost if work is handed in late.
The most important homework a child has each night is to read!
Home Reading: Read Across Canada
· Students are expected to read for 15 minutes daily and log these minutes. The sheets will be returned to school weekly and tallied monthly. Each province has been designated a specific number of minutes on the map. Once all provinces have been “traveled” through, a prize will be rewarded.
Agendas· Agendas should come to school every morning and taken
home every evening after school.· Parents are asked to initial the agendas every day (even if
there is not a note in the agenda that day).· Students are responsible for showing their parents their
agenda so they can see any notes or test dates.· Please feel free to write any notes you need to send me in the
agenda (I will check them every morning to see if there is any).· At school we will enter in our agenda any important dates as
soon as we know of them (test dates, assignment due dates, etc.).
· See agenda announcements on our · classroom blog.
Reading Fluency and Comprehension
· Our classroom will be working toward the school division goal of increasing reading fluency in comprehension in students by:
Continuing Guided Reading (Levelled group reading) on Days 1, 3 and 5.
A balanced literacy approach of shared reading, partner reading, independent reading, guided reading, writing time and spelling time.
Using the Daily 3 and the Daily CAFÉ. Parent pipeline letters will be email.
Families as Partners in Education
· Education is most successful when the school and home can work together jointly. The following things are important to ensuring the success of your child.
Ensure your child gets enough sleep nightlySend healthy “brain food” as snackEncourage your child to be responsible for
their agenda, home reading and other homework.
Inform me as soon as you know your child will not be present at school.
Contact me if you or your child has any questions or concerns about school
As a team, we will ensure the
success of your child!
Let’s Have a Great Year!
