HISTORY

Macquarie Park might currently be on the forefront of industry and innovation, but it’s past was much more pastoral - the late 19th century saw the site play host to lush market gardens, sprawling bushlands and the occasional waterfall.

GROWTH

Macquarie Park is in the midst of a serious growth spurt. Over 200 hectares of industrial land has been rezoned in the last two decades to create a thriving business centre. Macquarie Park is a key employment hub in Sydney – the precinct is expected to create more than 40,000 additional jobs by 2031.

CONNECTIVITY

Macquarie Park is on the Chatswood to Epping Rail Line and a major stop for bus services from key centres such as Parramatta, North Sydney and Castle Hill. The park is accessible by car via the M2, M4, M7 and Lane Cove Tunnel. The Macquarie Centre also operates the Biz Park shuttle, which offers free transit between the Centre and around the business park.

Located 12 kilometres northwest of central Sydney, the city’s third largest business district is a sleek, highly connected hub that’s home to global players across the pharmaceutical, technology, electronics and telecommunications industries.

word on the street“Working at Macquarie Park is convenient for me because I live locally. I just catch the M2 bus, which gives me time to read. My friends and I have a lunchtime running club at Lane Cove National Park. Quite a few people in the area join in.”MAREE DOYLE, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT, FOXTEL

Investment & Growth

Leaps in infrastructure

2007 The Lane Cove Tunnel provides Macquarie Park workers with a fast link to Sydney’s orbital motorway network and allows drivers to avoid Epping Road congestion.

2009 The Chatswood-Epping Rail Line connects Chatswood and Epping railway stations and improves the commuting experience by introducing stations at North Ryde, Macquarie Park and Macquarie University.

2013 The $550 million Hills M2 upgrade reduces travelling times between the city, the Macquarie Park business district and the north-west. New on and off ramps make the trip even easier.

Major developments

Completed in 2010, the $180 million Macquarie University Hospital is among the country’s most technologically advanced medical facilities.

In 2011, Macquarie University invested $1 billion into infrastructure and capital works: for a new state-of-the-art library, redevelopment of the student services building, and the Australian Hearing Hub, a purpose-built research facility focusing on speech and language disorders.

Macquarie University also has plans for an additional 500,000sqm of new office space – more than proposed for Barangaroo.

The Macquarie Centre is currently engaged in a $380 million redevelopment, paving the way for 130 new specialty stores, including a David Jones, Coles and Aldi, and a further 1,050 car spaces. Upon completion, the shopping centre will be ranked among the country’s ten largest retail hubs.

Goodman Group owns and manages approx. 300,000 sqm of office and warehouse space in Macquarie Park and North Ryde, and is currently developing two office towers for high profile corporations Canon and Fujitsu.
