Reserves: (ang. Comb. div 3 - Manager Danny Parker)

The Ressies are still going strong in 2nd

spot with only 2 league defeats all season. Last week the top of the table clash ended in defeat 4-2 away to Waveney. Caister remain 10 points clear of 3

rd place. Promotion is on the cards but the lads need a couple of wins

tio make sure of it. Promotion would mean Caister have the highest placed sides in the combination along with Acle United (Prem & Div 2). Fingers crossed.

This week: Downham Market Reserves 2pm KO (AWAY)

A-Team: (gydfl div 1 - Managers Matt & Dave Fincham)

This week: Bohemians at Home 2pm ko.

Good Luck to all the Caister FC sides!

Last Week’s Match report....

Caister 0-0 Dersingham Rovers

Caister faced Dersingham for the third time this season on Saturday this time at Allendale Road in front of their home support. Having suffered defeat in the League last time out against Dersingham Caister recorded a 3-1 cup victory so knew they had the beating of their visitors despite their lofty 4th place standing. Caister lined up with a strong looking midfield with Nichols and Bowers both returning. Also between the sticks Captain Liam Hembling made his return after a two week layoff. Jason Thompson missed out through suspension. Caister started very brightly and set the tempo for the 1st half with the wind at their backs. The majority of play was spent in the Dersingham half as the visitors found themselves pegged back for long periods. The woodwork was struck no fewer than three times in the first half as the Dersingham goal led a charmed life. Blake struck the bar from 6 yards out, Bowers had a close range effort turned onto the post by an excellent save then Bowers had his goal bound header cleared off the line despite loud appeals for a goal as the players thought the ball had crossed the line. From the goal line clearance Rowley stuck a shot hard against the bar from 12 yards out and the ball was cleared to safety. As the half approached its conclusion Garrett Ward raced clear with 3 players in support however just as the tricky forward was bearing down on goal he pulled up with a bizarre ankle injury. Having badly twisted his ankle the player was forced to retire from the action and was replaced by Brother Anton at half time. As the Caister players regrouped in the dressing rooms Manager Adam Mason reminded them of numerous occasions when they had been in control, not capitalised and actually lost games they should have won. Full of desire yet armed with caution for the threat Dersingham posed Caister reappeared for the 2nd half. Dersingham applied the early pressure and took their turn to test the sturdiness of the goal frame. They hit the bar inside the 1st 10 minutes of the restart and then after Caister had to defend numerous corners a deep cross skimmed the crossbar and flashed across the goal line to safety. With Caister now under immense pressure keeper Liam Hembling had to be at his best to deny Dersingham from taking the lead with a great one on one stop with an outstretched left hand. Caister managed to slow Dersingham down with some controlled midfield play and towards the end of the game looked to grab a winner. A few half chances for Bowers, Johnson and Nichols prevailed but the closest the hosts came was an Anton Ward freekick. His 30 yard effort looked to be curling in but once again the upright came to Dersingham’s recue as the keeper could only watch as the ball clattered the post and then went out for a goal kick. A great game of football from both sides, both showing battling displays to preserve clean sheets, however a game that once again Caister will feel they should have wrapped up in the first half.

FF

Est: 1908 - Nickname: The Lifeboatmen - Motto: Caister Men Never Turn Back - Ground: St. George V Playing Field, Allendale Road, Caister On Sea

When the club was formed in 1908 at a meeting in the old school hall the first Nick Name of the football club

was the Rabbits as the old pitch was on a rabbit warren on Caister Beach near the site of the Never turn Back

Pub. The Nickname now is the ‘Lifeboatemen’ after Caister’s most famous service and motto ‘Caister Men never

Turn Back’. The moto is more commonly seen these days on Twitter and seen as #CMNTB.Caister were one of

the founder members of the Great Yarmouth and District League and for 60 Years were one of the most

competitive and successful teams in Norfolk, Competiting in the Great Yarmouth League and Norfolk Primary

cup including Winning The Wiltshire Cup on many occasions. In the mid 60’s Caister joined the Anglian

Combination as the club expanded along with a Village which was growing into the size of a Town. The first team

moved up the leagues to the 2nd Division where they stayed for 20 years and still classed as a Junior

Side.Throughout the 90’s Caister had 5 adult sides including a 1st team, reserves, A Team, B Team on Saturdays

and a Sunday side. Due to the decline in demand at local football level the amount of teams changed but we

have always had at least 3 adult sides. In 2006-07 Caister FC won the Norfolk Junior Cup with a dramatic 1-0 win

over Mattishall Reserves at Carrow Road this was the first major trophy in our History. In the 2007-08 season we

finished as runners up of the league cup (Cyril Ballan Trophy) at Wroxham FC losing out 0-1 to Corton FC. This

was the start of the recent history and success as in 2008-2009 Caister first team earned promotion to Senior

Football and the Anglian Combination Division 1 for the first time in the clubs 100 year history under the

Management of Paul Brooking. Caister finished 4th but gained promotion due to senior sides above them

moving into the Eastern Counties Reserve League. Caister Reserves have recently gained a historic hatrick of

promotions. From 2004 Caister rose from division 6 to division 3 when the Anglian Combination was made into

1 league rather than having a Reserve section. Today our Anglian Combination sides reside in the Premier & 3rd

Divisions 1 after a historic double promotion in 2012-13. Our other adult sides the ‘A’ team and Sunday play in

the GYDFL and provide a wide spectrum of opportunities to local footballers whilst our vets are in the Norfolk &

Suffolk Vets League Div 1 North. Throughout our history we have spent periods combined with the Youth section

during which the club achieved FA Community status, during this time we were known as Caister United. To aid

logistics it was thought the clubs would run better separated again recently and the Youth section is now known

as Caister Roma.Caister currently have a driven 12 man committee who work on sponsorship opportunities,

fundraising, event co-ordination along with the day to day running of the important finances. Currently with 5

adult sides the clubs position on and off the pitch is stronger than ever in its 106 year history.A full collage of

Caister Football Club Photos, old news stories and memories is on display in the ‘tunnel’ at Allendale Road.

Please feel free to have a read and some of the comical stories I’d advise reading ‘Supporter is Knocked Out’ –

great read.

Welcome to Allendale Road to today’s visiting players, management and supporters of Blofield United along with the 3 match officials led by today’s man in the middle Andrew Tyne. Our fortunes this year so far have been fraught with bad luck in some close contests that we have narrowly lost out in. We have lacked a bit of a killer instinct in front of goal having created enough chances to win all of the remaining games. Last week was very much the same (report further on in this programme) we hit the woodwork 4 times in the first half and played some fantastic football to go with it. Having lost Garrett Ward just before half time it looked like again it might not be our day but this time we held on to grab a good point against a strong and experienced Dersingham side. We actually could have won it in the second half as Anton Ward struck the post with a great free-kick. The effort the lads are putting in is pleasing to see. We are definitely growing in experience in this division. Hopefully you now see a side that knows how to grind out results as well as playing the attractive brand of football we were so used to seeing last season. I’m pleased to say that Garrett Ward’s injury was not as bad as first thought and he will play today. Also returning to the side after his one week suspension is Jason Thompson. Both will be welcome additions as we go in the search of goals and finishing off some of these chances. Last week there were a few people on the side line getting on the back of our players from our own support, I’d like to just remind that minority how quickly our club has turned things around, please remember only a few years ago you were watching our first team play their football in Anglian Comb Div 2, now with our reserves looking likely to claim a Div 2 slot and the 1st team competing in the Premier Division the club is in a much better place. The players would certainly appreciate a pat on the back when things are going right along with the obligatory heckling that seems to be part of the course here at the Allendale. Blofield placed second with a game in hand are favourites to make it 7 Sterry Cup wins so today in particular you may need to stay patient and certainly get behind the lads. Please join us after the game for a drink and hot food with our main sponsors Caister Community Centre, all visiting players, supporters and officials are welcome, hope to see you there. Enjoy the game. CMNTB

MANAGER’s Message 1st Team Manager – Adam Mason

“ The players would certainly appreciate a pat on the back when things are going right along with the obligatory heckling that seems to be part of the course here at the Allendale”

Blofield 0-0 Caister Tuesday 20th August 2013

(Report Supplied by Blofield)

Caister started the match brightly and when Aaron Robson nodded the ball on to Keiran Hack on the right, Woody got down well to make the save. With ten minutes played, Danny McKail rose to flick on Woody’s goal kick to Chris Holmes, he played a beautiful chip across to Ben Morgan but his first time shot hit the cross bar and flew over. When Duncan Whitlam burst through the middle, McKail’s first time shot went wide. Caister continued to play in lively fashion being first to every ball and forcing Blofield into errors. Hack headed the ball on to Garrett Ward, he played the ball inside to Robson but his shot was rising as it cleared the bar. After 33 minutes Blofield had a let-off. Woody rushed out, his clearance was intercepted, and with the goal gaping Jamie Long couldn’t hit the target. Matty Banham was fouled, Jonny Wynne took a short free kick to Holmes on the edge of the area, he played a great ball inside to Morgan but he chipped the ball just wide. Wynne made a fantastic saving tackle to clear the danger when Long intercepted Craig Page’s pass. After 40 minutes Caister were unlucky not to score when Lee Turner’s swerving free kick smashed back down off the cross bar and Long placed his follow-up shot straight at Woody. Half Time: 0-0. The second half began with an exciting passage of play which started with the Beavers conceding a free kick near the right hand corner flag. Woody rose to punch the ball away, Page made two vital blocks first from Robson then from Turner before Blofield finally scrambled the ball clear. Dan Stobbart passed the ball to Morgan who played a superb cross-field ball to Holmes, and with keeper Liam Hembling rushing off his line, Holmes just failed to chip the keeper. Mark Baxter played the ball forward, Holmes kept the ball in play despite the defender’s close attention to find Morgan, but his shot was saved by Hembling. With the game opening up, Garrett Ward was giving Wynne a hard time with some mazy runs but Jonny was equal to the task. Tom Cullumbine’s direct running won a corner kick but Banham couldn’t direct Morgan’s kick on target. Morgan played the ball forward to Cullumbine but Hembling came out and knocked the ball off him to safely gather the ball. After 83 minutes Baxter’s mistake was almost punished by Ward but he was flagged offside as he passed the ball past Woody into the net, then 4 minutes later Ashley Mitchell was beaten but Ward’s shot grazed the outside of the post. This was an exceptionally hard-working visiting team who were difficult to play against and fully-deserved the point. The Beavers played with great spirit especially in defence where Craig Page was my man-of-the-match but found the midfield battle tricky against a well-organised Caister team.
