  3. 3. 2014 Banfield All Rights Reserved 3 SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION MEDICAL DIRECTOR Working side by side with veterinary hospital teams, this role is responsible for ensuring high-quality medicine and an outstanding client experience. It includes recruiting, hiring, coaching and supervising veterinarians and working with field directors to ensure the presence of outstanding paraprofessional teams. In addition, medical directors partner with field trainers to ensure outstanding business practices and a high degree of professionalism in each veterinary hospital. Medical directors are expected to teach medical and surgical skills and to evaluate performance through frequent visits to hospitals. You will also maintain relationships with the veterinary schools and veterinary technician programs.
  4. 4. 2014 Banfield All Rights Reserved 4 ONBOARDING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Develop, implement and oversee onboarding plans for all new COSs in assigned market Provide oversight for the onboarding of all new associate doctors in the market. Coach associates on DVM functional skills Determine the appropriate productivity levels for doctors and paraprofessionals Teach and coach high performance skills: Surgery Diagnostic workups Communication with clients and staff Proper medical record documentation Proper, legal regulatory compliance, including controlled substances; and Charging appropriately for services.
  5. 5. 2014 Banfield All Rights Reserved 5 HOSPITAL AND OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE Develop market/hospital budgets, and developing action plans to improve the performance of the 3Pillars. Effectively communicate and cascade key messages between the practice/regional team and the market in weekly conference calls and market meetings. Execute medical programs and initiatives as rolled out from Central Support Team (CTS). Ensure the doctor schedule meets client and business needs. Deliver on the 3 Pillars and 5 elements of Preventive

Execute medical programs and initiatives as rolled out from Central Support Team (CTS). Actively participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations Cultivate healthy and productive relationships with veterinary schools Build mutually beneficial partnerships with deans, faculty, and students that result in Banfield being considered the premier practice for student programs and the employer of choice for new graduates.

  8. 8. 2014 Banfield All Rights Reserved 8 EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION OR TRAINING Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD), or equivalent foreign degree is required. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience, including at least three (3) years clinical, with proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment, and two (2) years leadership experience (such as a practice manager, chief of staff, partner doctor or equivalent role). An active veterinary license in good standing is required for the states in which the majority of the MDs hospitals exist. Federal DEA license required; and, if necessary, DEA license for primary state, as well. For any additional states where the MD has hospitals at the time of hire, or if a new territory is acquired, necessary licenses must be obtained at the next available licensing date. All licenses must remain active for each state in which the Medical Director has hospital responsibility. Residential Requirement: All field leaders are required to live in their market.
