Glacier descent Diavolezza-MorteratschAs an enthusiastic winter sports fan Daniel Stauch advises experienced skiers to take on the challenge of the longest glacial descent in Switzerland between the end of January and March. A� er a comfortable gondola ride to the Diavolezza mountain station the breath-taking experience starts straight away. In around 45 minutes a ten kilometre long ski slope guides you through the imposing ice world of the Morteratsch and Pers Glaciers and ends at the glacial tongue in front of the terrace of the restaurant at Morteratsch train station of the Rhaetian Railway. � e descent route is secured but not prepared and largely corresponds to the degree of di� culty of a red slope (Swiss standard). During full moon unforgettable Glüna Plaina (Romanic: full moon) descents are o� ered starting from the Diavolezza mountain restaurant over the gentle rolling hills into the valley.

Cult mountain hut ‘Kuhstall’Daniel Stauch’s secret tip for a � rst class gourmet feast in an alpine hut ambiance is the ‘Kuhstall’ (German for ‘cowshed’). Where cows are found in summer, guests dine in winter. � e ‘Kuhstall’ is located next to the Furtschellas Valley run. During the day legendary host Freddie Zwimpfer pampers his visitors on the sun terrace with delicacies from the Cucina della Nonna and in the evenings he serves guests his gourmet menu. In addition to this, he also o� ers an extensive program of events including aperitifs under the stars, a mini Olympics and igloo building.

Helicopter fl ight with lunch atop CorvatschDaniel Stauch guarantees unique views over the glittering world of the glaciers with a VIP helicopter � ight to the Corvatsch moun-tain station. � e hotel o� ers a limousine service for guests to the helicopter base in St. Moritz. From there they will be taken over Silvaplana and Sils at the foot of the Julier Pass to enjoy the com-pelling glacial world of the Bernina Massif, as well as the enchant-ing, snow-covered lake scenery of the Upper Engadine Valley. � e last stop is the 360° panoramic restaurant atop Corvatsch moun-tain at an elevation of 3,303 metres.

Gletscherabfahrt Diavolezza-MorteratschAls begeisterter Wintersportler rät Daniel Stauch den routinier-teren Skifahrern, zwischen Ende Januar und März die längste Gletscherabfahrt der Schweiz zu bestreiten. Nach einer kom-fortablen Gondelfahrt beginnt das atemberaubende Erlebnis bei der Bergstation Diavolezza. Die zehn Kilometer lange Skipiste führt in rund 45 Minuten durch die imposante Eiswelt des Mor-teratsch- und Persgletschers und endet bei der Eiszunge vor der Terrasse des Restaurants beim Bahnhof Morteratsch der Rhäti-schen Bahn. Die Abfahrtsroute ist gesichert aber nicht präpariert und entspricht weitgehend dem Schwierigkeitsgrad einer roten Piste. Bei Vollmond werden auch unvergessliche Glüna Plaina (romanisch: Vollmond)-Abfahrten vom Bergrestaurant Diavo-lezza über die san� en Hügel ins Tal angeboten.

Kult-Berghütte KuhstallDaniel Stauchs Geheimtipp für einen Gourmetschmaus der Extraklasse im Alphüttenambiente ist der Kuhstall. Wo im Som-mer die Kühe stehen, speisen im Winter die Gäste. Der Kuhstall be� ndet sich an der Talabfahrt Furtschellas und tagsüber ver-wöhnt der Gastgeber Freddie Zwimpfer seine Besucher auf der Sonnenterrasse mit Feinheiten der «Cucina della Nonna», am Abend serviert er Gourmet-Menus. Dazu bietet er ein umfang-reiches Rahmenprogramm inklusive Aperitif unterm Sternen-himmel, Mini-Olympiade und Iglubau.

Helikopterfl ug mit Mittagessen auf dem CorvatschEinzigartige Aussichten auf die glitzernde Welt der Gletscher verspricht Daniel Stauch mit einem VIP-Helikopterflug zur Bergstation Corvatsch. Die Hotellimousine chauffiert die Gäste zur Helikopter-Basis in St. Moritz. Von dort aus werden sie über die Ferienparadiese Silvaplana und Sils am Fusse des Julier-passes ge� ogen und können die gewaltige Gletscherwelt des Berninamassivs sowie die bezaubernde, verschneite Seenland-scha� des Oberengadins geniessen. Die Bühne für die Hauptakteure steht. 400 Millimeter hoch, 100 Zentimeter breit, 47 Meter lang. Sie dient den Flugkünst-lern als Startrampe, auf der sie ihren Anlauf bis auf über 35 Kilometer pro Stunde beschleunigen. Am Vortag wurde sie

aufgebaut, temporär, wie die komplette Stabhochsprunganlage. Dutzende Tonnen Material fanden den Weg in den Hauptbahnhof. Der grösste Bahn-hof der Schweiz, mit mehr als 400'000 Pendlern pro Tag auch der meist frequentierte Ort des Landes, bildet 24 Stunden später den Schauplatz für eine Weltpremiere. Eine Weltpremiere mit einem besonderen Orchester.

Einmal mehr unterstreichen die Macher von Weltklasse

Zürich ihre Innovationskraft. Mit dem Stabhochsprung-

spektakel im Zürcher Hauptbahnhof erlauben sie dem

Publikum einen neuen, faszinierenden Blickwinkel auf

eine der virtuosesten leichtathletischen Disziplinen, die

man in dieser Art nirgends sonst erleben kann.

The organisers of Weltklasse Zurich emphasised their

innovativeness again. A pole vault show at Zurich

Main Station allowed new, fascinating insights into

one of the most sophisticated athletics disciplines,

and treated fans and passers-by to an unique expe-

rience.

The stage – 400 millimetres, 100 centimetres wide and 4 metres long – is set. � e aerial artists of athletics will use it as a launch pad on which they accelerate to over 35 km/h during their run-up. It was built on the previous day as part of a temporary pole

vault arena. Dozens of tonnes of material was installed at the ticket hall of Switzerland’s largest train station and most frequented spot – over 400,000 commuters and travellers use it every day – provided an ideal setting for a world premiere featuring a very distinguished orchestra.

The Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana is full of

superlatives. At over 1,000 metres above sea level it is the

highest stop on the tour. And it has long been the most

beloved of all destinations on the continent. As the Swiss

Open, as the forerunner of the tournament was called, its

history goes right back to 1923. And where else do you

get the opportunity to play virtually right in the middle of

town? So a fantastic festival of golf is therefore practically

Bis in die Zeit des römischen Reichs müssen wir nicht zurück-gehen, um zu den Anfängen der höchstgelegenen Pferderennen auf Eis zu gelangen. Es ist jedoch schon 110 Jahre her, seitdem die ersten Pferderennen auf Schnee von visionären Pionieren

durchgeführt wurden. Das erste Rennen war zugleich die Geburtsstunde einer neuen Disziplin im Pferdesport – dem Skikjöring – und wurde auf einer Strecke von knapp zehn Kilometern von St. Moritz nach Champfèr ausgetragen. Von da an war er geboren, der Geist von St. Moritz, diese aussergewöhnliche Atmosphäre auf 1800 Metern über dem Meeres-spiegel, wo sich die Eiskristalle des von den Pferdehufen stiebenden Schnees in allen Farben des Regenbogens spiegeln und jedes Jahr zehntausendeZuschauer begeistert zeigen.

� rst races were also the birth of a new discipline in equestrian sport - the skikjöring - and it is performed on a course of around ten kilometres from St. Moritz to Champfèr. � e winner Philip Mark, President of the Alpina Ski Club, and his Irish gelding Blitz covered the course in 20 minutes and 22 seconds. � is was when the spirit of St. Moritz was born, this extraordi-nary atmosphere at 1,800 metres above sea level, where ice crystals of the snow thrown up by the horses hooves sparkle in all the colours of the rainbow and captivate ten thousand spectators every year.

«Neben San Francisco und Las Vegas, wo ich heute woh-ne, gibt es nur noch zwei Orte, an denen ich gern leben würde: Hawaii und Montreux.» Carlos Santana, Gitar-rengott und Zeremonienmeister des 50. Montreux Jazz Festival, muss es wissen. Er hat nicht nur unzählige Male in Montreux gespielt, er war auch Dauergast und Freund des 2013 verstorbenen Festivalgründers Claude Nobs. Bevor Santana 1970 seinen Montreux-Einstand gab, wa-ren allerdings schon drei Festivals über die Casino-Büh-ne gegangen. Und davor hatten die Rolling Stones ihren allerersten Auftritt ausserhalb Englands auf eben dieser Bühne gegeben. Doch von vorn, die Geschichte ist gera-dezu märchenhaft!

Not only has he played countless times at Montreux, he was also a permanent guest and friend of festival founder, Claude Nobs, who died in 2013. Before Santana made his Montreux début in 1970, three festi-vals had already taken place on the Casino stage. And the Rolling Stones had their fi rst appearance outside of England, on this very stage. Right from the start the history is almost a fairy tale!
