A LEGACY FOR ALL CHILDREN

An All-Abilities Playground, designed for children with physical, cognitive, communicative, or other special needs, is now operating in Walnut Creek at Heather Farm Park thanks to a $350,000 grant from Measure WW.

Heather Farm Park, Walnut Creek $350,000

A PLACE TO CONNECT AND GET FIT

A PARK CREATES COMMUNITY

A remarkable site with a multitude of uses is the new Creekside Park in Oakley, made possible with a $406,000 grant from the Park District’s Measure WW.

Creekside Park, Oakley $406,000

Measure WW Community Grant Program In 2008 voters in Alameda and Contra Costa counties approved Measure WW, a $500 million bond extension which allowed the East Bay Regional Park District to preserve thousands of acres of open space and expand regional parks and trails. Of the $500 million from Measure WW, $125 million was allocated for grants to cities and local park districts on a per-capita basis to pursue their own critical park and recreation needs.

As of 2019, the District has approved grant funds for 236 projects at a cost of $117 million supporting 46 cities, special park and recreation districts, county service areas, and the Oakland Zoo. The District has paid $96.8 million directly to local cities and service areas for 170 completed projects. Funds will continue to be paid to our local entities as projects are completed in the years to come.

Today, East Bay neighborhoods have benefited from Measure WW grant funds with improved parks, enhanced playgrounds, renovated pools, new sports and recreation centers, upgraded skate parks, dog parks, and sports courts, additional walking trails, and preserved community open spaces.

A Message from General Manager Robert E. DoyleThe East Bay Regional Park District is supported by 2.8

million residents in the East Bay living in unique cities, towns,

and unincorporated parts of Alameda and Contra Costa

counties; in return the Park District generates over half a

billion dollars in economic benefits to the region annually.

Regional Parks, along with local recreational amenities,

enhance the quality of life for all East Bay residents. As a

regional agency, we are pleased that the Measure WW

Community Grant program, approved by 72% of voters,

has generously assisted our communities to improve

local parks and recreational amenities.

We are very proud to present this ten-year report

showcasing how local communities have spent

their share of the $125 million included in

WW for local recreation grants, so far

leveraging $117 million in grants by

277% to develop $324 million

in local park and recreation

projects.

Parks bring people

together and make life

better. We’re proud

to be a partner

with YOUR

community.

The Oakland Zoo Expands! In June 2018, Oakland Zoo’s highly anticipated California Trail opened to the public. The expansion more than doubled the Zoo’s current size from 45 acres to 100 acres. Of $4 million Measure WW dollars dedicated to the zoo, a total of $3.7 million was applied to the California Trail’s wheelchair-accessible aerial gondola taking visitors to the new exhibit. Visitors to the California Trail learn about California’s legacy and view animals that once roamed here. The new interactive exhibit inspires people to understand and appreciate our wildlife and environment.

Allocation Amount Per City/Area On Per Capita BasisApproved by voters in 2008, Measure WW provided grant funds to every East Bay city, special park and recreation district, and county service area based on population size (California Department of Finance 2008 Population Estimates). Of those 46 entities, 43 have received their total grant fund amount or have current and future projects allocated for their grant funds.

For a detailed project list by area visit ebparks.org/MeasureWW

Livermore is not included in Measure WW. Livermore voters did not vote on Measure WW because Measure WW is an extension of Measure AA approved by voters in 1988. At that time, Livermore residents did not contribute property tax funding to the East Bay Regional Park District. The Park District continues to work closely with the Livermore Area Recreational Park District (LARPD) to identify sources of capital funding for future acquisitions and development.
