ThewPrimeTMserieswatermeterhasusedadvanceddigitalsignalprocessingtechnologytopreciselymeasurethetransit-timeofeachultrasonicpulse.Astatisticalgorithmisalsousedtocounterinterferencewhichcouldcomefromsolidsorairbubblesinthewater.Theflow-cellisalsooptimallydesignedsothemultimodereflectionintheflowtubeissignificantlyattenuated.Thisallowssignificantincreasestherobustnessofthesystem.Theflowratecalculationisbasednotonlyontran-sit-timedifferenceandthegeometryoftheflow-cell,butalsoonfluiddynamicstheory.

Onlyultrasonicpulsesareusedtointer-rogatetheflowwhichenablesthemetertohavenomovingparts.Therefore,thereisnothingtowearandtear.Inaddition,theprincipleisbasedonthetransit-timedifferenceinsteadoftransit-time,alltheinterferingfactors,suchasthetemperature,pressure,solidsconcentrationandwaterquality,arecancelledout.Theendresultisthatthesystemisinherentlyrobust!

Operating Principle

ThewPrimeTMserieswatermeterconsistsofaflowsensorandanintegrator.Theflowsensorisaflow-cellmadefrombrass(figurebelow.)Twoultrasonictransducers,AandB,arefirmlymountedontheflow-cellatopti-malpositions,withtworeflectorsinsideoftheflowtube.Theultrasonicsignalgeneratedbyonetransducerisdirectedtowardtheflowdirectionbythereflectorbelowit.Whentheultrasonicsignalreachestheotherreflector,itisredirectedtothetransduceraboveit.Therefore,eachtransducercanreceivethesignalsentfromanothertransducer.

Anintegrator(orcalculator)controlsthetwoultrasonictransducerstotransmitandreceiveultrasoundinanorderlyfashionsoastoconductpreciseflowmeasurement.Specifi-cally,theintegratoroperatesthetwotrans-ducerstosimultaneouslytransmitapulseofultrasonicenergyintothewaterflow.Thepulsesignaltravelsalongtheflowandreachestotheothertransducerundertheguidanceofthetworeflectors.Obviously,thedown-streampulse(fromAtoB)travelsfasterthantheupstreampulse(fromBtoA).Thetraveltime(ortransit-time)differenceofthetwopulsesisdirectlyproportionaltoflowvelocity.
