Another wonderful month has gone by here at
Meadview and once again it is time to prepare for Jackie Brown’s little visit to my office, asking for a newspaper article, and as usual, I am un-prepared. This past month has been a beehive of activity here at the Information and Sales Office, the fantastic crowd we had turn out for the Lower Granite Gorge Boat Cruise, people coming in to take advantage of their special GIFT CERTIFICATE and the regular crowd of fishermen, which by the way, is continually growing as the fame of South Cove and the upper lake area spreads throughout the country. Since the last paper was published we have had about six new mobile homes move into Mead-view Terrace and there are plans in the making now for several more in the very near future. I hate to mention names because I’m afraid I’ll miss someone but there are a couple I would like to single out. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Little of Chicago stopped in for a visit and to look at their lot. This was their second visit to Meadview and they were pleasantly surprised by the develop-ment they found this trip out.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Napier have started on their house in Meadview Terrace, theirs is the first permanent residence to be started and we are all anxiously waiting to see the finished product and to have them join us permanently. Rolf and Jean Laerm brought in a photo of a herd of “Bighorn Sheep” that posed for them as they were driving to South Cove one day. This is a very rare sight and few people have been lucky enough to see this many Bighorn at one time. “I hope the picture will reproduce in the paper so you can all see these majestic animals.) Getting a little on the personal side, I had a very pleasant and welcome visit from my Mother along with her new husband, Max Gale, a couple of weeks ago. While they were here, through the generosity of Frank and Clotee George, we were treated to a wonderful cruise aboard that ship of ships, “THE THIEF OF BAGDAD”. I even managed to remember a few salty words dating back to the days I spent in the U.S. Navy. Captain George says he runs a slave ship but I disagree, I think it’s a pleasure ship. NOVEMBER -- DECEMBER 2016
We are nearing the end of 2016, and we wish to thank our members for their ongoing support of our community. As always, our staff has been a continuing support to us throughout this whole year. We could not have maintained our facilities and/or accomplished so much without them.
During this 2016 year, the MCA has been able to provide many improvements for our organization and its members. To name a few: the new air conditioning unit, repaving of the parking lot, updates to our computer system, (thus, bringing more delinquent assessments into compliance,) installation of new carpeting in our mini golf course, the purchase of two new solar panels for the pool, adding additional security cameras, and addressing some of our blighted properties. Our office staff has updated our Key Card system for better monitoring of entrance to our facility.
Our 2017 Assessment invoices will be mailed out in December and delinquent in March. In addition, with the new computer system, we can now provide our members with a variety of payment options; thus making the yearly assessment payments for you, our members, more convenient. For your easy reference, those options are outlined on the following page in this Monitor. As you can see, a member can pay by cash, check, credit card or debit card. Payment can be made by a telephone call, by mail or just by stopping by the office. The office is open each week, from Tuesday through Saturday. Office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
After three and a half years of monthly Potlucks, Nancy Stone and her faithful ladies are going to take a well deserved break. We give our thanks and gratitude for these ladies’ hard work, good food, and their loyalty. Our last MCA Potluck will be on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th. For those who wish to attend, there will be a “sign-up” sheet on the desk in the MCA office.
We have invited the various groups that meet in the MCA the opportunity to host future Potlucks. They may use our facilities at no charge. This will allow the Potlucks to continue, and at the same time each of these groups will be able to promote their own organization. For those events, organizations may be allowed to invite members and non-members to attend.
One change in our Policies is that we are increasing our “Yearly Social Membership Fees” from $50 to $75. The increase does not affect the current Social Members; only the new applicants. Current Social Members will remain at the $50 fee, unless there is a “break” in their membership.
Again, we thank you for allowing us to serve you during this 2016 year.
Meadview Civic Association,
Board of Governors.

The October regular Fire Board meeting had 19 people in the audience.
Two Board members were not in attendance. The Treasurers report
showed that taxpayers in our fire district listened and sent in their
property taxes by October 1, with over $60,000 paid compared to the
$11,000 received early last year. The expenses for the district has
been cut and the district is pretty stable at this time. Chase Bank has
offered to take our Line of Credit and a Homeland Security Grant and
a Regional Grant are being considered which will allow us to purchase
with matching funds, items needed. We need to replace one of our
older ambulances. We had 56 calls last month, 40 were medical and
20 of those were transports.
A Chevron station will be building at 93 and Pierce Ferry which could
encourage other businesses to consider building in the area and that
would raise our fire district revenue to help the district. Fire Chief
Tony DeMaio is asking for volunteers. With additional personnel
one man and a volunteer could be stationed at Station #43 and that
would mean Meadview could be covered everyday of the month.
The next Board Meeting will be November 21, 1:30, at Station #41
in Dolan Springs.

Friends of the Arizona Joshua Tree Forest Rendezvous
*Sponsored by the Conservation
Lands Foundation for Friends Groups
who are members of the Friends
Grassroots Network.
This year’s Rendezvous was held Sept 30-Oct 2 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort. There were
50 Friends groups represented from across the country with over 300 in attendance. Our Group was in-
vited to attend a special pre-session to give the BLM input on their new Working with Friends Groups
tool kit. It is for field office managers to use to create and strengthen positive relationships with Friends
groups like ours.
This year’s Rendezvous was very inspiring and energizing. Many new ideas were submitted and new
contacts were made. The meeting was very motivational and included many informative speakers.
Some of the special speakers this year were:
Bruce Babbitt - Secretary of the Interior 1993-2001 and founder of National Conservation Lands.
Nikki Moore- BLM Division Chief for National Conservation Lands
Ron Hunter- Environmental Activism Manager for Patagonia
Dina Titus- Congresswoman for Nevada
Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk- Ute Tribal Council Member
Some of the projects and activities we will have in the coming months are ideas from this conference.
Come join us! Annual membership fees- single/couple $25, family $45. For more information check out our website at: www.joshuatreeforest.org
“The supreme reality of our time is … the vulnerability of our planet.”
“National reserves are an integral aspect of intelligent use of natural
resources. It is the course of wisdom to set aside an ample portion of our natu-

Our speaker was Dr. Todd Esque who was a part of the Friends of the Arizona Joshua Tree study done by the Willamette campus of Oregon University. He has at least 30 years of work with Joshua Trees and his talk was very interesting to the audience of fifty. The Annual Large Community Trash Pickup will be Novem-ber 19. Start going through your garage and shed for all the items you want to put in the dumpsters. We need more helpers to direct cars and help load the dumpsters. Please call Carl Stacy if you can help that day from 8 until noon. We mentioned the Meadview residents who won ribbons and best of show in the Mohave County Fair; Suz Wood, Peggy and Larry Townsend, Diana Moyes, Linda Boyden and Stacie Sue Macon. Congratulations to all, you make Meadview proud. COM will be doing the Meadview Blvd. Litter Pickup on October 26. We al-so set November 17 for the date for the COM Christmas tree to be decorated. On December 17 COM will again lead a tour of the Meadview Christmas Homes that will be decorated. Please call 564-2213 to alert me that you will have your home decorated and want us to do a drive by on that date. Please get your name and address on the tour list by December 10. Our speaker for November 3 will be Liz Buckingham who will speak on the benefits and programs provided for the Veterans in our area. Rod Reed, of Air Methods, will also be here to explain the helicopter insurance that is provided by Air Methods for our residents if you have to use a heli-copter to reach a hospital in the future. Both of these programs are of vital information. Mark Abrim from Frontier Telephone will be here on December 1 to bring us up to date on what progress they are making on improving our phone and internet service. Jeanne Kentsch, the Mohave County Assessor will speak on how your property valuation is determined for
county property taxes. We certainly look forward to seeing a large audience at both of these meet-
ings. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. with coffee and cookies available at 9:45. Everyone is welcome to at-
tend our meetings.

The fall hiking group had to cancel the hike down to Elephant Arch on ac-count of rain, but we did do the Cramp Springs hike and ran into five beauti-ful wild horses that were wallowing in the pool of water. We have set up the Elephant Arch hike for October 17, then will do a hike to the Turtle Rock Sink Hole followed by a hike to the Pearce Ferry Rapids on Oct. 25. We will be picking up our section of Pearce Ferry Road on November 2. We will meet at Gregg’s Hideout Road at 9 a.m. On November 4 we will meet at Meadview Time at 8 a.m. to drive into Kingman then take I-40 to the Blake Ranch turnoff and drive to Moss Wash with a hike into the Gold King Man-sion. Our regular meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the MCA at 6:30 p.m. Bring suggestions for hikes and 4x4 trips. Call 564-2213 for more information.

On October 13th all the MCA employees received CPR training
courtesy of Tony DeMaio, Fire Chief of LMRFD.
Tony did an outstanding job teaching the essential basics of CPR and an-
swering the many questions we asked.
Each employee was awarded a ‘Certificate of Completion’ issued by the
American Heart Association for Hands Only CPR.
Thank you Tony for your time and imparting such important knowledge
to us!

Lakeside Lore
(Continued From Page 2)
Another different type of craft
that stirred up quite an interest
was brought in by Bill Empens of
Prescott, who owns a lot in Unit
#3. Bill has an air boat of the
type used in the Everglades. This
boat is powered by an airplane
motor and propeller, mounted
high on legs.
The propeller is enclosed in a mesh cage to prevent accidents.
After the excitement about the air boat we were all disappoint-ed to find out that this type of boat is not allowed on Lake Mead. It seems a shame after all that work. Plan your vacation to coincide with one of our upcoming spe-cial events and then just relax here at Meadview for a few days. We are looking forward to meeting all of you.
