ABOUT US uru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women is founded by Shree Mahaveer Jain Kalian Sangh
(established in 1967) a voluntary charitable Jain association, dedicated to the cause of education
and social upliftment. The college is named after the great Jain Saint Yogiraj Guru Shree
Shantivijaiji Maharaj of Mount Abu(India) to mark the memory of his birth centenary celebration.
Regular Day College for U.G. courses was started in the academic year 1991-92 and Evening College in
the academic year 1995-96. This is a self-financing college approved by the State Government and
affiliated to University of Madras. It is also established and administered as a Religious and Linguistic
Minority Institution.
During the year 1999-2000, the Master of Computer
Application (M.C.A.) course was started in the college
after getting permission from the Govt. of Tamil Nadu,
approval from the All India Council of Technical
Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and the affiliation
from the University of Madras with full intake strength
of 30 students. The approval was extended to the
maximum intake of 60 students, in the year 2002-2003
and thereafter.
The college aims to give a high standard of University education to women candidates, in order to make
them responsible and useful citizens of the society and thus significantly contribute in the development of
our Nation.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
The students will be trained with basic Computer Science and current trends of advanced programming
particularly on real –time applications. The course is designed for the candidates who are not even having basic
computer science background. The successful candidates will be suitable for working as a Real Time
Application Programmer or Project Manager.
To provide comprehensive knowledge, policies and techniques applicable in the field of computer
science with latest technological trends.
To help the student meet the growing demands of the IT industry.
To develop high caliber skills required for the IT field.
To provide a thorough knowledge on programming concepts, logics and techniques in the field of
computer applications.
ELIGIBILITY
Any Under Graduate of a recognized university with Mathematics as one of the subjects at degree level or
at plus two level.
DURATION
The course duration shall be 3 years consisting of 6 semesters. In order to be eligible for the award of
degree, the candidates should successfully complete the course

ATTENDANCE
Candidates with attendance of less the 75% overall in a semester shall not be permitted to take the
University Examination. However ,it shall be open to the Principal to grant exemption to a candidate who has
failed to obtain the prescribed 75%attendance for valid reasons and such exemptions would not , under any
circumstances, be granted for attendance below 65%. Candidates, who have less than 65%, will have to repeat
the semester from the next academic year, as per the existing University rules.
COLLEGE TIMINGS
Monday to Friday 7.50 to 1.10 p.m. with a break of 25 minutes.
Saturday: All II and IV Saturday will be Holidays.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
Established in the year 1999, the department made an impressive start by securing 100 per cent results
and this upbeat trend continues year after year. Intensive coaching and excellent infrastructural facilities have
enabled the students to achieve university ranks ranging from First to Ten. The excellent academic ambience
has helped the students secure about 20 university ranks in this short span of time. To crown it all, the
department has produced the university First rank in MCA

COMMENCEMENT OF THE CLASS
The classes will commence tentatively for the first year students of the post-graduate
courses during the first week of July 2007. However the exact date will be notified later.

Infrastructure
Department of Computer Science has emerged as one of the premier centres for
computer education. Core facilities such as the computer centre, lecture halls,
libraries, audio and visual exhibits have been constantly upgraded to give the
academic programme the required thrust.

This department organizes several academic activities, fests including guest lectures,
paper presentation contests, field trips, etc., to upgrade the skills of students in

The Department organises a series of seminar and symposium by inviting eminent
speakers from the Software Industry in their area of expertise. This enables the

Guest Lectures
Eminent visiting professors of repute are invited to deliver the special Lectures on
important topics of Computer / Information System & Technologies.
Mini Projects A mini project in each functional area is undertaken in the fifth semester in which
the students are expected to seek the information, data, etc., from the field on the chosen
topics which bridges the gap between the theoretical concepts and practical analysis.
Career opportunities The successful candidates will be suitable for working as Programmers, Software
Engineers, System Analysts, System Designers, Quality Managers, etc., and more

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
1. Continuous Assessment will be done by Faculty on various attributes like 3 Sessional
Examinations(Average of the best of two – 15 marks) and presentation skill / practical assessments
etc.(Seminar / Assignment – 5 marks) to complete the internal assessment of total 20 marks in each
paper. The practical papers will have record book evaluation of 5 marks.
2. The End – semester examination of the university will be conducted for 80 marks (theory papers) and 40
marks (practical papers).
3. A candidates shall be declared to have passed in each paper if she secures minimum 50% of marks in
University End Semester Examinations and not less than 50% in aggregate (Internal & External) of total
maximum marks.
4. A candidate who has passed in all the papers and in the final semester project work within the period of
three years reckoned from the date of admission to the course is declared to have qualified for the
degree.
APPLICATION FORM AND PROSPECTUS
Candidates seeking admission for MCA Programme under any quota and interested to join out
institution, have to submit the filled-in application form with all details within the prescribed time. Cost of
Application Form with prospectus is Rs.300/- which can be obtained form College office in person.
Registration of an application does not guarantee admission.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Selection will be made based on the marks obtained in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance
Test(TANCET) conducted by the Anna University, Merit will only be criteria for selection based on Entrance
Tests. Those appearing for April Final Year Exam may also apply for TANCET and Admission for the above
Programme
1. Candidates who are selected after the Entrance Examinations will be called for a Group Discussion and
interview. Receipt of an interview call does not guarantee admission. Candidates who fail to appear on the date
mentioned for the interview will have their provisional selection automatically cancelled.
2. The following documents must be presented in original at the time of interview, failing which admission may
be refused.
a) The interview card
b) Mark Sheets
c) Transfer certificate
d) Conduct certificate
e) Community certificate
f) Pass and Migration certificate from the University of Madras (for students of other universities or
recognized bodies)
g) TANCET Test Score Copy.
FEE DETAILS (2013-2014)
Candidates selected for admission to M.C.A course will have to immediately deposit the
following fees
Admission Fees : Rs. 5000
Annual Fees : Rs.33, 000
Annual University Exam Fees ,
Registration & Processing Fees : Rs. 3000
Refundable Security Deposit : Rs. 15, 000
Total : Rs. 56, 000
Thereafter Annual Fees are to be paid at the end of every year, for the next year by demand draft only, in favour
of college and is subject to revision by the management for the subsequent years due to continuous escalation of
overall costs, salaries and development of facilities considering the rapid advancement in technology.
NOTE
Candidates admitted for the 3 year (six semester) course have to undertake in writing with parent that in
the event of discontinuation due to any reason, the balance fees for the course is liable to be paid and deposit
paid would be adjusted. Kindly note that this is a self-financing institution and hence cannot afford to lose the
Budgetary resources because of drop-outs.
IMPORTANT
Selected candidates are requested to pay only the above stipulated fees and deposit by means of DD/Pay
order in favour of the College through any Nationalised Bank and no other capitation Fee/Donation is required
to be paid.
All admissions are made provisional and are subject to
Approval by the University of Madras.
