* DBD Camp Store * F RO M T H E V I C E P R E S I D E N T A big welcome to the 2016 MCA camping season. Let me say, that we are looking

forward to another great year filled with good memories for you and your family. I

would like to say that while enjoying your camping season, there are a lot of people

in the background working very hard to ensure that we have fun activities for all

members to participate in. Whether they are a member of the office staff, the

maintenance crew, and all the volunteers that give up a portion of their time all year

to ensure we all have a good time at camp. As usual though, it is important that we

touch on some aspects that need your attention. We are going through changes

and trying to adjust to the new challenges that confront us all. Please make sure

you have lot numbers on your site. This is very important if an emergency arises

and it is your rule. Also make sure you have them on the front and back of your golf

cart. It is your rule and will be enforced throughout the season by security and other

members. Watch your fires and do not leave them unattended for any length of

time, as we all know from a couple years ago could be a major disaster. Have a

water source close by and no burning on windy days. Please keep your eye on yours

and your neighbor’s lots like a neighborhood watch. This can help cut down on the

instances of vandalism.

One more thing I would like to address to the membership;

Please DO NOT FLUSH RAGS, DIAPERS, PAPER TOWELS, FEMININE PRODUCTS,

BABY OR SANITARY WIPES or any other items that CAN and DO clog our sewer lines.

When we get a clog, every campsite on that line is disrupted as we search for the

clog, have to clean out and repair the line. This is a waste of your resources and

may disrupt your weekend until it is fixed. Our current sewage plant and also our

new one that is being built are not equipped to handle these items. Please think

before you flush.

Be a good neighbor. Have fun and if you are looking for something to do, come to

see me, as I have a lot of projects on the table this year. I would gladly accept any

and all who would like to help.

Thank you in advance.

Bob Villella - Vice President / G-Section Representative

Hello! Hope everyone had a good winter. It’s great to be back at camp for the up-

coming season. We have a full office staff now that is all new. Please give them the

same respect that you would want to receive. I have been your Secretary for a little

over a year and a half. I am still learning things, but I want to ensure you that I al-

ways have the best interest of the members. If you see something happening that

shouldn’t be happening, please fill out an “Incident Report”, or if you would like to

voice your opinion on a specific matter, fill out a Speak and Be Heard. By filling out

this report, your Board of Directors and I can rectify and solve the problem. Without

these reports, nothing can be done, and because of it, a lot of things that go on are

left unsolved. If you need help with either report, or are not sure of which one to fill

out, please contact me.

F RO M C S E C T I O N Welcome back campers for the 2016 season! I am looking forward to a great camp-ing season as your C-Section Representative. If you have any questions, concerns, or problems, please stop and see me at C-12. If I do not know the answer, I will be sure to find the answer for you. All of our committees are still in need of volunteers, even if you could just help out a few hours one weekend, it would be greatly appreci-ated. I am also your Social Liaison and Wi-Fi Liaison and welcome any event sug-gestions and appreciate your support at MCA.

In our D-Section over the past few months, the maintenance men have been work-ing very hard. Jon & crew installed new storm drains, repaired water breaks and also dumped and spread gravel in front of our bath house. Our bath house is one of the nicest ones in the campground due to members from our section taking pride in it. Let’s keep up the good work and have a safe and happy season! Thank you and God bless!

Mike Grady / D Section Representative

F RO M H S E C T I O N

I would like to start off by introducing myself to the members of H Section at MCA.

My name is Keith Edwards and my lot number is H 21. My wife, Faith, and I have

been members of the MCA for about 8 seasons. We do enjoy the campground for

what is has to offer. I am the H Section representative and the Rules and Regula-

tions Liaison until the next election in September. I have chosen to be the eye, ears

and voice for all H section members and will express your thoughts, concerns and

ideas to the MCA Board of Directors this camping season.

This also includes the concerns of the entire MCA regarding the Rules and Regula-

tions. The committee is currently reviewing and discussing possible updates and or

revisions to several of them. I am also asking all of the MCA members to express

their views and thoughts on the MCA’s current Rules and Regulations with the

hopes of enhancing the safety of the entire MCA community.

I would like to say thank you to the MCA community for this opportunity in making

this a safe and enjoyable 2016 camping season.

I would like to inform you

that after a lot of research

to stay within our budget a

new bowling machine has

been purchased for the

adult lounge. We still

need a lot of people for

the Tuesday and Thursday

bowling leagues, sign-up

sheets are in the office.

The adult lounge is availa-

ble for use by any camper

that is on their lease. Go

to the office, let them

know what time you want

it open, fill out the info

sheet with you name and

lot number. It will be in-

spected before it is

opened and after you

close it for damage and

cleanliness. There is no

charge for it’s use. Please

be respectful of the

machines and the facility.

I would like to discuss projects up for consideration in the campground this season.

First I would like to thank everyone in advance who is willing to get involved.

1. We are going to paint the bridge over to the island before Memorial Day week-

end. It will probably have to be during the week as we don't want to close off the

island for the day but we will if we have to.

2. We have an unsung hero (who does not want to be pointed out and I will respect

his wishes) who has been sanding and painting the fence along Staff Road. Hats off

to this member who volunteered to do this. If you see him and want to help, let him

know. If not, at least pause and say something nice. It doesn't cost anything and it is

a hard job to do by yourself..

3. A real ambitious one here folks We are going to prep and paint the entire back

of the A-Frame building, get rid of unsightly wires, pressure wash the building

(before painting), and the roof over the garage. Here is where we need the help the

most as this is quite a project. I am trying to avoid spending maintenance crew labor

dollars on this or at least keep it to a minimum. They are concentrated on other pro-

jects throughout the campground.

4. Lastly, I would like to again thank the people who took it upon themselves to

clean up one of our playgrounds. There are actually many people who do this type of

thing around MCA on a daily basis, not for attention, not because they want some-

thing from us, just people starting to get involved again like it was when I first be-

came a member 15 years ago. So, let's enjoy our camping season and yes we will

be working on the A-Frame ladies room in the fall. We have hired 2 new mainte-

nance staff and a comfort station cleaner. Please, say hello if you wish, but do not

tie them up in conversation as they have work to do. If you have any questions, ask

Jon when he is out and you see him, or ask me and we will try to help you. You can

also leave a message at the office in our mailbox. Please report anyone you see

committing vandalism in your campground facilities. It is your money that will be

spent to fix any damage so lets all be a little diligent. Thank you!

Bob Villella - G-Section Representative / Maintenance Liaison

The Lake Committee will be concentrating on fixing up the lake this spring and sum-

mer. We will be repairing benches and replacing wood. We have added signage to

our lake that states the lake is “FISH FOR FUN ONLY!” All fish must be released

back into the lake. With the funds we raise this season we hope to be stocking the

lake with fish. We would love to put bass, crappie and perch into the lake. We as a

committee need your help. Please come out to our events and support our func-

tions.

To raise funds we will be having many food events and bake sales. We are also sell-

ing T-Shirts and Sweatshirts. Order forms will be available at lots H-13, D-95, D-96

and D-126. Cutoff date for the first order will be June 5, 2016. Payment due with

order. If there is enough interest we will have a second order in July. We are also

selling car magnets, they are very nice and have MCA on them. The Lake Commit-

tee has some fun events planned throughout the summer! Anyone who wants to

join the Lake Committee please sign up at the office. If you would rather not be on

committee just show up and we could still use your help! Thank you very much!

Hello Campers!

Bingo is in full swing and going great. Bingo is every Friday night. Doors open at 7

and first game begins at 8. Come join the fun. If you are able to make it to 12 bin-

gos this season you will be eligible for our free bingo on September 11.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out selling specials and at the front

table before bingo begins. If you can help for just one Friday, it would be greatly

appreciated. Please let me know so I can put you on my schedule.

We look forward to the upcoming camping season.

Gioia Mangis / Social Committee Treasurer D-130

This year we started off slow, but Doug Cumens H-513 and Gioia Mangis D-130

stepped up as our Chairperson and Treasurer and have a fun-filled schedule for

the 2016 season. A big “thank you” to both of them for stepping up! We are still in

need of volunteers for the committee and would appreciate any and all assistance

that our members can help out with. Please consider signing up in the office or

just donating a few hours on a weekend helping out with bingo or a dance. The

more help received the more fun everyone can have. Please see the Events sched-

ule posted on our website mcacamplands.org or at the office.

F RO M YO U T H C O M M I T T E E Welcome back members! Are you ready for another fun filled season? WE ARE!

Your MCA Youth Committee has worked hard during the off season to prepare many

exciting events for our youth. This year we are all about family! We love watching

both parents and children enjoy every single event that we organize and we hope

that all of you take advantage of the wonderful events coming up this season. First

off, I am so excited to announce that Youth Wednesday Bingos will begin June 1.

Doors open at 6:30 with bingo starting at 7:00. I want to send a special thank you

to John and Judy Gould for continuing their support and dedication to our MCA

Youth. Also, volunteers and donations are always needed! Any donations can be

brought to lots D-150 (Dawn) and E-79 (Anita). Volunteer Sign Up Sheets will be

available at every youth function and in the office. Please consider signing up for

one of our events. Trust me, it’s worth it!

A few things will be changing this year, so please bear with us as we are always try-

ing our best. The last few years our Friday movies have decreased in numbers, so

this year we will be doing a Monthly Friday Night Movie. Some months they may

even follow one of the Monthly Candy Hunts. Our first movie of the season will be

May 28 at dusk behind the Teen Rec. Bring your blankets, snacks and family mem-

bers to enjoy a movie without admission. Also, our Youth Pool Parties have turned

into Family Pool Parties. Your MCA Youth committee pays for all lifeguards for the

pool to be opened during these special hours. The pool rules are also stricter during

evening pool dances. We take child safety very seriously and we do not hesitate to

remove a child if it is in his/her best interest. We try not to refuse any child, but dur-

ing Youth committee events all children must be accompanied by an adult. There is

also no smoking and no alcohol allowed.

A few times last year events had to be cancelled or times had to be changed at the

last minute. Please know that we never like to cancel an event but sometimes

things are out of our control. For movies this year, if one is cancelled because of

weather, it will be showed the following weekend. Pool parties will be cancelled only

for thunder/lightning. We will post any cancellations on the MCA Events Facebook

page and are still in the process of getting the ok to post on the new website.

Sign ups for “Lunch with Santa” will begin on Saturday, May 28 and run until Sun-

day, July 3. You can sign up at lots D-150, E-79 and at DBD Camp Store. Also,

there will be an opportunity to sign your child up at every Youth Function. Children

are $5, Adults $3. We will not, under any circumstances, take names or money

after July 3. Money is also due at the time of sign up. As you already know, this

event is the largest of the season and we need those weeks before to prepare our-

selves. I hope to see all of you Sunday, May 29 at the Memorial Pavilion from 9am-

11am to kick off our first fundraiser of the season. Every day is a great day when

you start with a plate of pancakes and donate towards a great cause!

Thank you,

Pennsylvania Law now mandates that volunteers working with children are required

to obtain a “Child Abuse History Clearance”. For information regarding the clear-

ance please visit www.KeepKidsSafe.pa.gov. Individuals seeking clearance can go

directly to www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis to create an account and apply for their

child abuse clearance electronically. You must also obtain the PA Criminal History

Check, this can be done online as well at epatch.state.pa.us. There is no fee and

under the guidelines not everyone is required to have the clearance but the more

we have the easier it will be for us to create fun activities for our Youth.

On Saturday, May 7, West-

moreland County held

their Special Olympics at

Norwin High School.

competed and won 3 gold

medals! He participated

in the following events:

* Shot Put

* Javelin Throw

* 100 Meter Dash

We are still in a strong

need of volunteers. So

far we have 2 people

signed up but are in need

of more to make Teen

activities happen. Even if

you are able to just in-

volve yourself with a few

events, that time would

be greatly appreciated.

You may sign up at the

office and even list the

dates you would be avail-

able. Also, share with

your teen that we are also

willing to explore their

ideas and let them help

with gathering their

friends to make a great

day of fun happen. You

are also welcome to con-

tact me at A-25 as well.

Welcome back everyone! We are excited to have an active committee again this

year and have been working hard on updating your MCA Rules and Regulations.

During recent meetings we have been discussing the update of Rule 208, Rule 405,

Rule 807 and a possible new rule addition regarding major rule penalties. These

proposed changes will go to the BOD for their approval in June.

The vote for rule changes is scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 3 at 2pm in the A-

Frame. Please look for more information in the coming months regarding the vote.

Please come out and vote! The campers are the ‘voice’ of our Campground.

SPRING CLEAN UP

Welcome back Campers!

Yes, we are all excited and ready to have some fun but keep in mind the importance of cleaning up our lots.

Clean up your leaves… Not only a camp rule, but very

important to the safety of our campground.

Place your leaves into disposable, paper leaf bags. You can place

these bags as they are in the leaf pile at the dump.

If using plastic garbage bags, you must empty the leaves from the bag into the pile. No plastic bags are to be left full in the leaf pile.

Please be courteous to your neighbors. Do not blow leaves toward your neighbors lot or onto the street for the wind to disperse them.

NO BURNING LEAVES! It is in violation of the camp rules and

also very unsafe for our campground.
