Start the New Year with this thought!

You may have heard of the phrase “pay it forward” and not really understood what it meant before. If you have understood the concept, then you may not have put it into practice yet, or realized how it can relate to your home life or business.

To “pay it forward” means that when you have been the recipient of an act of kindness, then you repay this act of kindness to others, which can start a whole chain reaction of random acts of kindness, leading to a whole transfor-mation of spirit.

You may ask what this has to do with your home life or business, but believe me, it has everything to do with it!

The concept and its effect is much like viral marketing, where everyone gets in-volved and is affected in some way that can wind up being something huge.

Your home life or business is all about relationships - Relationships with

people you know, and relationships with total strangers, clients, or potential customers. The way you treat people has everything to do with what you get in return.

So what are some ways you can “pay it forward” and treat people extra special so that they turn around and do the same for a few, if not many, other people to build a giant network of people helping people?

Start with small things. Offer to help with a project, drop a dollar in a donation bucket, give a small gift to say “Thank You” to someone, pay someone’s toll who is behind you, give a customer an extra donut or a free drink now and then, etc. There are limitless ideas that are equally great. Be selfless; treat everyone with respect and kindness. Your acts will not be forgotten, so don’t forget the power of paying it forward!

Santa’s Visit

Santa paid an early visit to the Meadow Pointe 1 clubhouse much to the delight of many

young residents!

Many thanks to the Meadow Pointe Community Council

and CDD for sponsoring this fun family event.

The villages of Meadow Pointe 1 showed off their creativity this holiday season (many thanks to the Community Council). We hope to have a holiday decorating village competition during our 2012 holiday season, so start thinking of ways to make your village entrances shine!

Now that Santa has come and gone, there’s no better time than January to focus on health

and wellness. Often, New Year’s Resolutions include exercise goals. The fitness center at Meadow Pointe continues to be a popular option for exercisers. There are resistance machines that work all major muscle groups, free weights, and cardio equipment including a stationary bike, treadmills, and elliptical machines.

Two televisions provide visual entertainment, and many people bring their own ipods or headphones. The Meadow Pointe Community Council purchased the antiseptic wipes to clean the machines after each use, as well as the cubbies to store our wallets, keys, jackets, and purses while we exercise. The racquetball court is hugely popular! Reserve the court by calling the clubhouse at 973-1671, or sign up to play on Thursday nights. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors and practice your swing.

Other fitness options at Meadow Pointe include tennis, and jazzercise classes, Check out our website at www.meadowpointe.com for more information. And know that your CDD wants to provide excellent amenities for you. v

Marcia DunnThis month we’d like to acknowledge

Marcia for her continued volunteer work. Marcia was one of our wreath ribbon

experts, and helped make our village entrances festive. Every time Dennis Costa of the Com-munity Council has asked, Marcia has stepped up without hesitation.

“We moved to MP1 from Maine in May of 2009 and have loved it ever since. My husband retired in June of 2006 and our intentions were to move south, away from the harsh Maine winters. Our last winter there was a killer. We had returned to Maine from Florida during a Nor’ester and couldn’t get into our driveway. We headed south shortly after with the intentions of settling here. We have friends in Lutz, which is one reason this area was chosen.

My volunteering goes way back to perhaps 1990, where I originally volunteered much of

my time with the school system and the school/town library. Our son was born in 1983 and our daughter in 1988, and it was a bit of a stress relief getting out of the house for a bit as well as being close to the school system, where my son at-tended. It was a perfect match for me. Eventually it worked into a paid position. Now that I’m here, I am available to volunteer for different events and decorating or whatever needs doing. If I get a call, and we are around, I can make arrangements to assist with community events.”

Marcia, we are thrilled to have you here in MP1, and thank you for all that you contribute to our community! v

The Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce announced last Thursday that John Negley of Florida Hospital of Wesley Chapel won the coveted title of Honorary Mayor. Jan Roberts of Big Brothers Big Sisters is the new Deputy Mayor of Wesley Chapel. The event was held at Wesley Chapel Toyota and co- sponsored by the Pasco Times. “This is an exciting time to live and work in Wesley Chapel, the momentum is so positive. Over the

past few years I have seen the level of member participation in Chamber events increase dramatically. It is inspiring!” states President, Debie Kaplan. The Chamber has elevated the level in which they do everything and this vision seems to have funneled down to three incredible people who put their name in the ring to run for the Honorary Mayor of Wesley Chapel. Mitze Richeson, from Cypress Creek

Chiropractic, Jan Roberts from Big Brothers Big Sisters and John Negley from Florida Hospital of Wesley Chapel.

This race lasted five months. Their goal was to raise the most money. The prize is winning the title of both Honorary Mayor and

Florida Hospital’s John negley named as Wesley Chapel’s

new Honorary mayor

Deputy Mayor. This race was designed to give these individuals a platform to gain visibility for themselves as representatives of their perspective businesses, an opportunity to showcase their business as an outstanding member of the community, an opportunity to raise money for the Chamber and an opportunity for each individual to give back to their favorite charity. They in essence become the face of the Wesley Chapel Chamber, and the Wesley Chapel Community.

This year’s race has shown us how three individuals can unite various supporters together as individuals who volunteered their time and effort to come up with intriguing ways to network! We saw them create different events and utilize

the local businesses to support their efforts and donate prizes. We saw them interact with all the Chamber members, lobbying for their vote, by creatively asking for donations. We saw them use their leadership skills of passion, realized vision, influence and the recognized need for one another. The three candidates raised an unprecedented $ 67,000 of which over $ 30,000 will go out to the candidate’s respective charities. The Chamber is grateful to all of those people and businesses that contributed their time and money for the Chamber’s biggest fundraiser of the year. For a list of upcoming meetings and events please go to www.wesleychapelchamber.com. v

At the new Arnold & Par-kinson Dentistry, located inside the Cypress Creek

professional park on SR 56 just east of I-75, there are two dentists that absolutely love what they do. Together, Drs. Robert Parkinson and Scott Arnold have more than thirty years of dental experience and their new office in Wesley Chapel is state of the art. It was designed specifically for team efficiency and patient comfort.

And, in the spirit of efficiency and comfort, the team at Arnold & Par-kinson Dentistry takes great pride in tending to one patient at a time with little or no waiting.

“We like to make sure people are comfortable before we begin any dental procedure,” says Office Man-ager Amber Buck. “We schedule

plenty of time for each person. Time is valuable and we understand how frustrating it can be to make an appointment only to have a long wait. We do our best to keep things running smoothly around here so our patients can get in and out in the time they expect.”

This office team insists on treating each patient as a special guest visit-ing their office. They get to know each patient, help them get comfort-able and provide superior dentistry with a gentle chairside manner.

Both doctors are family men and share another office in Riverview. They are excited about opening in Wesley Chapel and want to serve the area as true community dentists. “We understand family dentistry,” says Dr. Robert Parkinson, “Dr. Arnold and I both have families and

have been taking care of area family smiles for many years. If you come to our Wesley Chapel office you will see either Dr. Arnold or me. We are not a chain of dental offices. We even give our cell phone numbers to our patients.”

Arnold & Parkinson Dentistry is a family dental practice that accepts most insurance. They would like to invite local residents to try them. They offer free consultations so you can see if they’re right for you. The doctors also have the additional training needed to perform cos-metic, reconstructive and neuro-muscular dentistry. You can check them out on the web at www.MyFamilySmile.com or call their office at (813) 907-2228. v

MP II CDD SUPERVISORSChairman: Linda [email protected]: Mark [email protected] Treasurer: Jim [email protected] Secretary: Glen [email protected]: Brian [email protected]

What better time than the Holidays to pay tribute and express appreciation for our Veterans who protect and served our

country to preserve our freedoms. Dick Arens does that every day through his volunteer efforts. Dick has been volunteering at James Haley VA Medical Center for two years as a tram driver. He picks up the patients in the parking lot and transports them to the various buildings.

Dick is a retired Air Force fighter pilot who served for 22 years and also goes to the VA hospital for his medical care. He saw, first hand, the need and wanted to stay active so contacted Voluntary Services and became a volunteer. Dick says “I enjoy meeting and helping someone, especially someone on crutches or with a walker. To be able to help them brings such pleasure and is so rewarding”.

Being a true pilot, Dick still flies and teaches. He has also, on occasion, assisted wounded veterans by providing transportation for their families; he recently flew the family of a patient from Tampa to their home in South Carolina. This will also be the 19th year he has flown in the “Missing Man Flyby” at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell for Veterans Day.

Vice President of the Hillsborough Veterans Council, Dick is also very proud of the project they have taken on to build a Vietnam Memorial in the

Hillsborough County Veterans Park. There will be an area in the park dedicated to honoring each branch of the service.

Another aspect of Dick’s Volunteer work is his participation in “Honor Flight”. This is a service provided free for the World War II Veteran to be flown to Washington DC for the day to visit the World War II Memorial built 5 years ago. The planes are sometimes donated by Southwest or American Airlines and Honor Flight pays for the fuel, other times the plane has to be paid for and this is accomplished through donations. Each veteran has a volunteer chaperone for the day. Dick first got involved as a chaperone. So far this year 280 veterans have been taken to Washington. Any WWII Veteran who is interested can get information at Honorflight-wcf.org.

Dick also delivers books being donated to the hospital and said there is also a big need for toiletries. Anyone wishing to donate toiletries can bring them to the clubhouse and Dick would be glad to deliver them to the hospital for distribution to the veteran patients. There is also a need for more drivers and volunteers. Dick has resided in Lettingwell for 11 years with his wife Eloise. We thank him for his service and the service he now extends to his fellow veterans. v

With a real heavy heart, I take to my keyboard to write about a fellow Educator, CDD Supervisor

and most of all a great Friend. I have had the privilege to have known Wayne for the past 10 years that I have been residing in Meadow Pointe. I first met him when I attended a residence council meeting and I found out that he lived down the street from me. He told me to join the council and together we would try and keep this district on an even keel even though the residents had no say on the CDD Board. We went to meetings with the rest of fellow village reps and did our best until that wonderful day when we got Harold Zeigler on to the board. By the following year, the entire board was made up of all residents including Wayne and myself elected by the community. It was a hard time in the beginning, due to we had no idea of what went on and really what had to be done. We walked the community, talked to residents read emails and in general just kept our eyes and ears open. As time evolved the board got settled in and the district had a board that cared and was willing to work for it. Wayne became a liaison with the community and Pasco Schools due to his background and put forth the greatest effort when it came to school safety and the safety of our children in general. He was a soft spoken gentleman that lulled you into doing what- ever was best for the district.

Born in 1929 to the proud parents, Oates and Talitha Busbice, one of eventually 9 children, born just seven months before the stock market crash and the start of the great depression. He was raised on a farm and did like all children of that era, did his chores as he was told to do, walked to school, came home, did more chores, did his homework and looked forward to another day to repeat the previous one. Upon graduation of high school in June of 1946 he attended Southwestern University in Lafayette in their agriculture department. Graduating in June of 1949, Wayne set out to become an agriculture teacher. In 1950 the Korean conflict broke out and Wayne and two other brothers joined the Air Force and eventually Wayne went through Officer Candidate School and retired as a Lt Colonel. Among other achievements that Wayne accomplished in life, was a time in the political arena, and also rose to the position of Jr.High School Principal. Wayne also achieved the distinction of earning his Ed.D and earned the right to be called Doctor Busbice. Wayne is survived by his wife Patricia and their 6 children and 6 grandchildren. To add to the list of people who will miss him are a clan of close to 100 in the Busbice circle and many, many friends that Wayne and Pat have made in their lifetime. In closing, all I can say is that I am going to miss our lunches together and miss the great friend that you became. May you Rest in Peace among the greats that have passed.

Winter weather brings some relief from our typi-cally high temperatures, but it also requires a

bit of patience. Those tropical plants and small palms that are cold damaged are best left as they are until we are past the last frost, which may not be until mid March. The dead tips of various plants will protect the live tissue underneath and may prevent further frost damage. It is also too early to determine the extent of damage. On palms, even if the center frond looks damaged, there may be another bud underneath wait-ing to push out, which may take a couple of months

to appear. So please be patient you don’t want to cause more damage to your plants.

With regard to irrigation, once a week should be suf-ficient, unless you have new plantings. If the leaf blades of turf grass are fully extended open, they have enough water. It is always a good idea to probe the soil to know how deep the moisture is, and then program your irriga-tion timer accordingly. Applying only as much water as is needed, will help provide a healthy landscape.

For the past 5,000 years, China amassed a diverse legacy of heroes, myths, and values that

still resonate in the present. Today, Shen Yun Performing Arts is reviving the essence of traditional Chinese culture in full color on stages around the world.

“It was an extraordinary experience,” said Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett after watching Shen Yun, “the level of skill, but also the power of the archetypes and the

narratives were startling. And of course it was exquisitely beautiful.” Ride with Mongolians across endless steppes. Recall the grandeur of an ancient Tang Dynasty palace. Resounding drums awaken the dusty plateaus of the Middle Kingdom. Gorgeous backdrops extend the stage, transporting the audience to distant lands and eras. An orchestra that combines Western and Chinese instruments like no other accompanies the dancers with stirring scores.

Shen Yun strives to capture the spirit of traditional Chinese culture and its beliefs. Ancient literary classics extol the compassionate, courageous, and loyal, values embodied by the most memorable characters. Thrill in the triumph of the great General Yue Fei; cheer on the Monkey King as he tricks a stubborn foe; and witness how these values still endure in contemporary China. Shen Yun bridges past and present in an uplifting, inspiring, and indelible performance.

Shen Yun will be performing at Straz Center, Tampa on March 3rd & 4th. For more information, visit Shenyun2012.com. v

Introducing Our Nurse Practitioner, tracy Green, arnP

Calling all future Meadow Pointe stars! This is our area’s

version of “American Idol”!

Heritage Arts Center Association is planning our 29th talent contest. The dates have been set! Applications and information are available on our website at www.heritagearts.org. The deadline for applications is Thursday, Jan. 26th. The competition is open to talented young people through the 12th grade.

Several hundred students participate each year, so to allow even more stars their chance to shine on stage we have expanded to TWO final shows. On Saturday, Feb. 11th, we expect an energetic crowd of excited youngsters to compete in the tryouts for the thrill of becoming a finalist. Participants are

judged primarily on talent, but also on stage presence and appropriate appearance. The final competitions will be on March 10th, at the Theater at Wesley Chapel High School. Tickets for adults will be $12, or both shows for $20. For students through high school the fee is $6, both shows for $10, and children under 5 are free. We award over $3,000 in cash prizes, trophies and ribbons and a chance to compete onstage with an audience of several hundred. The competition is conducted in a professional atmosphere with judges from central Florida who are outstanding in their respective fields. Singers, instrumental musicians, acrobats, bands, baton twirlers, dancers and other forms of entertainment are welcome to participate. There are several age categories for solos and one or more group

categories, and a student may enter as a solo and with a group. Corporate sponsors have allowed us to generously reward these young people for their hard work in developing their talents. These gifted students eagerly await their chance each year to shine as a true star! Several of our former contestants have gained valuable experience and confidence, and have gone on to receive college scholarships and positions with professional performance organizations. It is indeed a rewarding event for all – sponsors, audience, producers, and performers!

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or for more information please email Barbara Friedman at [email protected] or call 352-567-1720. v

Building a new home? Make sure it is Energy Star Certified! Ierna’s

Heating & Cooling has done their part to maximize the energy efficiency of any new construction HVAC system they install. Air

Conditioning Contractors of America has a Quality Assurance program to help set higher standards for the HVAC industry.

In order to hold the certifications which enable a company to be accredited with the Quality Assurance program, company dedication is required. Technicians and installers must pass the lengthy course and the company has to promote and abide by the new

installation procedures necessary.

Ierna’s Heating & Cooling recognizes that the HVAC system is merely a piece of the puzzle for an entire home to be certified, but it is a critical portion since over a quarter of a home’s energy is used by its heating and cooling system.Ierna’s Heating & Cooling took the steps necessary for these important credentials in order to work with Habitat for Humanity in Pasco

County. This year, Ierna’s Heat-ing & Cooling will start to be the HVAC installer for many of the Habitat for Humanity homes including the Women Build home.

WCAA Lacrosse celebrates 2011 with a look back at some of our

accomplishments. This was our tenth year providing lacrosse to Wesley Chapel and the surrounding area for youth ages 5 through high-school senior. The program started with a just a couple of boys teams running only during the spring. Now there are boys and girls teams playing year round, three annual tournaments as well as plans to support nine teams for spring 2012. That growth was spurred by our WCAA Lacrosse Tournaments. Our first tournaments brought local Tampa area teams together during the spring season in mini jamborees, which we will continue in 2012. In 2007 we hosted the first Derek Pieper Memorial Cup, a tournament honoring the memory of one of our players lost in the prime of his life. Now, five years later, each November that event brings thousands of people to our area pumping millions of dollars into our local economy. In 2009, Wesley Chapel hosted the first Sunshine State Games lacrosse

tournament. This 30+ year old, state sponsored, amateur sporting event expanded its lacrosse presence the following year by adding two additional locations to the event we started. This year, we added I Lacrosse My Heart, an all-girls charity tournament which supported St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital’s pediatric heart unit. This event also helped raise heart-health awareness for the girls and women of our community. Over the years we have supported numerous charity organizations. We have offered fundraising and service opportunities to our local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girls Scouts. We held blood drives and included organizations like Voice for Orphans at our tournaments and events. At our annual December holiday lacrosse camp, we collect gifts for Toys for Tots of Pasco County. We have provided donations and support to several local schools, local churches, and nearly a dozen local lacrosse teams. Thousands of dollars have been invested into Wesley Chapel District Park for improvements to be enjoyed by all

members of our community. And, through the Derek Pieper Memorial Fund, we provide scholarships to needy children, who would not have otherwise been able to play lacrosse. From the tournaments benefiting our local community, to the dozens of players who moved on to play collegiate lacrosse, to the youth of our community learning sportsmanship and teamwork by playing with our teams, we have many accomplishments. WCAA Lacrosse is proud to be a part of the Meadow Pointe community and we look forward to another ten years of providing opportunities for the youth of our area. Without the hard work and dedication of our coaches and volunteers, none of this would be possible. Come be a part of the fastest sport on two feet! VOICE FOR THE ORPHAnS gRAnD OPEnIng

Voice for the Orphans is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing education regarding the situation of abandoned, neglected and abused children. The organization wants to provide the public with knowledge and believes with this awareness and education many will be moved to act. Voice for the Orphans believes everyone can help an orphaned child either through prayer, volunteering, donating financially, fostering or adopting a child. “Our vision is that people will accept our call to action and want to help the many children who need it. We

know not everyone will choose to foster or adopt, this is why we offer other ways people can help,” said Veronica Brocato, President and Founder of Voice for the Orphans. Voice for the Orphans just hosted its Grand Opening to introduce their vision to the public. Activities included: bounce houses, slide, face painter, special guest speaker Loryn Smith of Woven Basket, a children’s book author’s signing, puppet the-atre and raffle. “We wanted to introduce ourselves to our community, share our vision and make sure the families who came out in support had a great time,” said Veronica. Other organizations with similar missions were also present at the grand opening: Watoto, Eckerd Community Alternatives, Oasis Pregnancy Center and Chinese Chil-dren Adoption International had information tables and volunteers present to answer questions.

CELEBRATIng 100 YEARS OF BUILDIng gIRLS OF CHARACTER!

No town captures the imaginations of Girl Scouts like Savannah, Georgia. It was there in 1912 that Juliette Gordon Low walked beneath the moss-

draped trees and made the decision to start her amazing organization for girls.

Little Brownie Bakers will pay trib-ute to the 100th Anniversary of Girl

Scouting with a lemon cookie that reflects the heritage of past customer favorites. This lemon wedge cookie is cool and crisp, with just the right number of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of happiness. And, when you hold it right, you’ll quickly be reminded of that world-famous “Girl Scout Smile.” Savannah Smiles will be available in the 2012 Cookie Season.

Each year, thousands of Girl Scouts visit the founder’s historical house in Savannah. Along the time-worn corridors, each girl considers how, even 100 years later, Juliette’s story continues to encourage them to dream big and do great things with their lives.

That’s why we are so proud to offer a brand new variety that will delight customers and help girls make their dreams come true.

Happy 100th Birthday, Girl Scouts! Please support your Meadow Pointe Girl Scouts.

designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between complet-ing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal.” The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is about health, not disease. If you are interested in finding out more information about this program contact Jon Dearolf at 813-866-9622.

Mead w Pointe iV InFoIt’s the beginning of the year, and time to update your

information with the clubhouse. This year we will be cleaning up the gate entrance box information so we

need every resident to update their information. There

is no need to give your gate entry information, just cut out and fill in the information sheet provided in this month’s issue and turn it into the clubhouse office. For your convenience there is a black box outside the office

that you can drop it off in. In February/March we will be deleting anyone from the gate box that does not turn in an information sheet. Please don’t delay, turn it in as soon as you can. Thank you for your continued cooperation. v
