So we must do our job better than yesterday. How? As an employee we need to develop both job oriented skills and career oriented skills. Job oriented skill are those where em- ployee have the potential only to do his own area of work – the area where you are working you are engaged only for job-minded activities. This is not enough for your career growth. Career oriented skills means employees who have potential and show more interest in advancing their careers compared to those only interested in having a job. Before entering into a job of any organiza- tion –they look for a complete person (their Body, Mind, Heart and Spirits – must involve in work. 100% Safe Work and 100% productivity can only be achieved by engaging Employees 100% Body, Heart, Mind and Spirits at work - What does it mean? After joining an or- ganization –we become a part of the organization.. Thus from the first day, we must show ownership – it is an inherent feeling of ―My own company. For exam- ple, I am working in MCK , a spirit and proudness of associating with MCK must always be exhibited in all my actions – it must be visible in my response, am I fo- cused on my deliverables to clients, Am I focused on my 100% compliance. (b) Further, we should have a Passion and Spirits - we must possess a high degree of dedication, competence in our work, to be responsive in our approach (quick response), integrity and also show de- pendability in discharging of our assign- ments/duties to the best of our capabili- ties. (c) we must extend our fullest co- operation to subordinates, colleagues, customer and our good conduct must be visible as a honorable member of the MCK Family – both in and out of the factory campus. These are some of the meaning of Body, Mind, Heart and Spir- its. Once we do the 1st step (above), be- lieve me, then a question will arise from within us, how you are doing better service than yesterday? What system or process you adopted wherein you know – you are doing better than yesterday? These are the questions we need to ask ourselves every day. Now may I ask you - How many times you asked yourself these questions Yes, It is difficult to answer, don’t worry most often … it may be not even thought of. Our progress is depending upon the growth of the organization. For our own growth, it is essential that our organiza- tion must grow. For example at MCK Kutty, if we are not concerned with our objective which is to ensure Plant Availability >98%, Zero Injury and No penalty from Clients if failed then this failure will pull us down and we will face financial losses and even we may loose our business. There- fore, we must focus our prime concern . How many times do you discuss this issue with your colleagues, and subordi- nate so that they are organized their attitude and services favorable to MCK Group and our clients SSL. Mr. Gaurang Kamat—Everyone appreciates his Principle and Values. Because of this ap-proach he is a different person-ality. Mr. Gaurang also focus and appreciate for creativity, innovation and bringing all-round improvement through out the plant. He is very concern at about implementing 5 “S” and also inspiring people to demon-strate 5 “S” habit at work place. We Kiran Team, met Mr. Gau-rang and requested his opinion about how everyone (SSL) should measure about the per-formance of MCK Kutty Engi-neers—how MCK should know that they are doing better per-formance than yesterday. He said there is a process of assess-ing performance assessment through score card. Now, they are in increasing trend.

Mr. P H Ajgaonkar—working as Supervisor in BF Electrical. Many Safety related work did in H M. Crane. Last month he removed 10 Unsafe Action from H M Crane.

Anoop Parab working in SP Instrumentation as Engineer. He is fond of instrumentation job. There was a problem in weigh feeder. He resolved it by discussing with Group members. Mr. Pedro Jose Barreto motivated him for doing this kind of improve-ment job.

Dharmesh Sawant is from Amona Village. He is Dip. in Electrical from Board of Technical Education, Goa. He is very soft and good communica-tor. He is punctual and disciplined. Attitude towards seniors and clients are very good. He is also inspir-ing peers who work with him. He does shift maintenance properly and take care of the work also help others to work.

How MCKian is doing better than yesterday– DURGA SAI

Their aim is to make robust systems and process, which is essential to ensure Zero Accident work place. When we asked about his dream? He said he is very ambitious to work in Control Room operating job. Because he had already worked in Control Room at Atibir Industry and also initially involved in this plant too. When we asked how do you know you are doing better than yesterday.

He said he brought many improve-ments at works. Example (a) RE-DUCED DUST EMISSION AND (b)REDUCED SPILLAGE. (a) C2 con-veyor C 3 discharge dust emission was very high, suction valve pro-vided and emission reduced to 40%, (b) In Screen Building to CE3Spillage material dumping where chute was prepared. Benefit: Spillage material easily dumped.

Gunda Durga Sai—Actual name is Durga Sai, but we call him as “Gunda” which is his initial name. He joined Sept. 2012. He is happy with the job. He said one can learn m a n y t h i n g s from SSL .

Manpower is getting stream-lined. BF Team Engineers are good, taking ownership of full system. However, they need to focus more on initiatives in order to bring down the inci-dents. MCK should train their new engineers and bring them into existing system, then only system would be improved. When we asked about how our client SSL plan for improving productivity and more profits. He said, SSL has their own plan for optimizing resources and improve productivity and opti-mize.

Biswajit Mandal, SP Operation He is very alert in job, which has helped the organization. On 19-3-14 Mr Biswajit was on night shift duty at 00:30 he observed in the screen building, where one vibrating screen total dis-placement, all springs failed . He immediately stopped it.

Though this is a small job but it had a great impact as far as safety is concerned. We appre-ciate his timely action.. There are many such employees in all the department, Kiran has taken all the efforts to bring such employee in the front and reward them during our Recog-nition and Reward program.

We are very proud, because we experienced his dedicated ser-vice towards Safety. He is al-ways available in the plant , roaming around the plant and observing Safety aspects. Mr. Narahari R Gawas working with SESA since 29-7-1991. 23 years completed in SSL. He is working as Safety Officer. His spirits and convincing ability is much appre-ciable. He said one of the happi-est moment in his life was when GM Plant appreciated his good works in 2013. In the past also he got many appreciation. He

want to become a teacher. His passion is to teach and preach people. He was happy because of this background, he is engaged to teach and train people.; When we asked how do you treat MCK employees while tak-ing training, he said, he treat them as family member, visualize what would happen incase of any accident took place, who will look after their children and family. We know one of the instances, when one contract employee was very disturbed because he is having two girl

child, not having money to educate them. He told him don’t worry, he will help him financially for their study. He said, every year, he used to give some books and other mate-rials to nearby society/school of Sankhali and Bicholim constitution. This year also he is going to donate the same on their requirement. When he was working at Pig Iron Division of SESA, he convinced near about 50 contract employees and stopped them using Tobacco. They are now not using. This also give him satisfaction. Really, he is g r e a t .

2. 50% of the unsafe behaviors are noticeable at any plant at any given point of time;

3. 25-30% of safety awareness is lacking among employees which gets reflected in their unsafe behaviors; 4. Unsafe behaviors are at the core of any near misses, injury, accidents. If we control unsafe behaviors, we may not even have near misses. So we need to focus our efforts on unsafe and safe behaviors in safety. BBS secret of success is that the safety control is in hands of each employee, they feel em-powered and responsible. BBS emphasizes that employees need to take an ownership of their safe as well as unsafe behaviors. If they behave un-safe, they are not punished, instead they are repeatedly told to correct; and when they behave safe, they are encour-aged. (Training is going on at PIEP—everyone should attend and learn)

Kiran’s congratulations to the team who worked 115 days with zero accidents and did an Excel-lent Quality Job at JSPL. Highlights of the Revamping work Blast Furnace from 450 M3 to 650M3 at Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Raigrah. The target to complete the work was 120 days and the job was completed in 115 days, 5 days ahead of schedule, with ZERO accident, where 300 men worked round the clock for 115 days.
