Getting Started Getting Started MC-i200 MC-i200 General information This quick installation guide gives a rough overview and helps to quickly start with basic steps. Please read the supplied instruction manual for detailed information. Power 1 Check whether the power voltage as shown on the type plate corresponds to your local power voltage. If it does not, consult your dealer or service organisation. 2 After all connections have been made, connect the power cord to AC MAINS~ and to the wall outlet. This switches on the AC power supply. To disconnect the set from the power completely, remove the power plug from the wall outlet. Do not connect the streamium MC-i200 to the gateway router before the internet connection of the connected PC through the router is working. Power

1 Check whether the power voltage as shown on the type plate corresponds to your local power voltage.If it does not, consult your dealer or service organisation.

2 After all connections have been made, connect the power cord to AC MAINS~ and to the wall outlet.This switches on the AC power supply.

To disconnect the set from the power completely, remove the power plug from the wall outlet.

Prerequisites for the home network setup

1 Connect your PC, gateway router and broadband modem(cable/DSL) according to the router’s setup instructions.

2 Configure your gateway router following the directionsspecified in your router’s manual and make sure that the PC’sInternet connection is installed properly and working. If youhave problems with the setup of the Internet connection,contact your networking equipment manufacturer.

IMPORTANT!Do not connect the streamium MC-i200 to the gateway router before theinternet connection of the connected PC through the router is working.

Connecting Streamium MC-i200 to the Internetthrough a gateway router

3 After the Internet connection has proven to be working,connect the MC-i200 to the gateway router with thesupplied cable.

4 Press CONNECT.

Depending on your network setup, you might have to enter networkconfiguration data. Please follow the instructions on the system’s display, usingthe Navigation Jog, the OK/PLAY (É) and the numerical /alphabetical keypad onthe remote control to enter the requested connection information.

Streamium registration

1 For registration enter your E-Mail address with numerical / alphabetical keypad on the remote control byfollowing the instructions shown on the display. Within a short period you will receive an E-Mail with yourregistration confirmation details.

2 To complete registration, follow the link displayed in the E-Mail.

Playing music from online music services

1 Press CONNECT.

2 Browse through music services with Navigation Jog.

3 Press OK/PLAY (É) to select and start choices.

Playing MP3-music-files from the computer’s hard drive

1 Press PC-LINK.

2 Browse and select PC’s, folders and tracks with Navigation Jog.

3 Press OK/PLAY (É).

Note: Before you can use this music source,1) you have to switch on your PC and connect it to the network.2) you have to download and install the PC-LINK PC application fromhttp://My.Philips.com.

Playing a CD/MP3-CD in the CD drive

1 Press CD.

2 Press OPEN/CLOSE and insert a CD or MP3-CD into the tray.Close the drawer by pressing OPEN/CLOSE again.

3 Select track with Navigation Jog.

4 Press OK/PLAY (É) to start playback.

Playing FM/MW/LW radio stations

1 In standby mode, press and hold OK/PLAY (É) on the system until“PRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNERPRESS PLAY TO INSTALL TUNER” is displayed. PressOK/PLAY (É) again to install all available radio stations.

2 Use the Navigation Jog to scroll through the list of radio stations.

3 Press OK/PLAY (É) to select the radio station.

Important notes for users inthe U.K.

Mains plugThis apparatus is fitted with an approved 13Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type ofplug proceed as follows:

1 Remove fuse cover and fuse.

2 Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5Amp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.

3 Refit the fuse cover.

If the fitted plug is not suitable for yoursocket outlets, it should be cut off and anappropriate plug fitted in its place.If the mains plug contains a fuse, this shouldhave a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without afuse is used, the fuse at the distribution boardshould not be greater than 5 Amp.

Note: The severed plug must be disposed of toavoid a possible shock hazard should it beinserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere.

How to connect a plugThe wires in the mains lead are colouredwith the following code: blue = neutral (N),brown = live (L).

¶ As these colours may not correspond withthe colour markings identifying the terminalsin your plug, proceed as follows:– Connect the blue wire to the terminalmarked N or coloured black.– Connect the brown wire to the terminalmarked L or coloured red.– Do not connect either wire to the earthterminal in the plug, marked E (or e) orcoloured green (or green and yellow).

Before replacing the plug cover, make certainthat the cord grip is clamped over the sheathof the lead - not simply over the two wires.

General Information

This product complies with the radiointerference requirements of the EuropeanCommunity.

Environmental informationAll unnecessary packaging has been omitted. Wehave tried to make the packaging easy toseparate into three materials: cardboard (box),polystyrene foam (buffer) and polyethylene (bags,protective foam sheet).

Your system consists of materials which can berecycled and reused if disassembled by aspecialised company. Please observe the localregulations regarding the disposal of packagingmaterials, exhausted batteries and old equipment.

Safety information

Before operating the system, check that theoperating voltage indicated on the typeplate (orthe voltage indication beside the voltage selector)of your system is identical with the voltage ofyour local power supply. If not, please consultyour dealer.

Place the system on a flat, hard and stablesurface.

Place the system in a location with adequateventilation to prevent internal heat build-up inyour system. Allow at least 10 cm (4 inches)clearance from the rear and the top of the unitand 5 cm (2 inches) from each side.

Do not expose the system, batteries or discs toexcessive moisture, rain, sand or heat sourcescaused by heating equipment or direct sunlight.

If the system is brought directly from a cold to awarm location, or is placed in a very damp room,moisture may condense on the lens of the discunit inside the system. Should this occur, the CDplayer will not operate normally. Leave thepower on for about one hour with no disc in thesystem until normal playback is possible.

When the system is switched to Standbymode, it is still consuming some power.To disconnect the system from thepower supply completely, remove the ACpower plug from the wall socket.

About MP3 disc

Supported formats– MP3PRO, MP3– ISO9660, Joliet, Multisession– Supported sampling frequencies : 16, 22.05,

24, 32, 44.1, 48 (kHz)– Supported Bit-rates of MP3 disc are:

32-256 (kbps) and variable bit-rate

Making your own MP3-CD

1 Copy the music from your own Digital AudioCDs or download legal MP3 music from theInternet.

2 Record (“burn”) the music on a CD-R(W) discwith your home PC. Make sure to use arecording speed not faster than indicated on theCD-R(W) and avoid running other programmessimultaneously on your PC during the recordingprocess.

Sound QualityTake note that MP3-CD compilations shouldbest contain only MP3 tracks (.mp3).To achieve a good MP3 quality, a bit rateof 128 kbps or higher is recommended.

Preparations

Rear connections

The type plate is located at the rear of thesystem.For users in the U.K.: please follow theinstructions on page 2.

A Power

Before connecting the AC power cord to thewall outlet, ensure that all other connectionshave been made.

WARNING!– For optimal performance, use only theoriginal power cable.– Never make or change anyconnections with the power switched on.

To avoid overheating of the system, a safetycircuit has been built in. Therefore, yoursystem may switch to Standby modeautomatically under extreme conditions. Ifthis happens, let the system cool downbefore reusing it (not available for someversions).

Connect the supplied AM loop antenna and FMantenna to the respective terminals. Adjust theposition of the antenna for optimal reception.

AM Antenna

Position the antenna as far as possible from a TV,VCR or other radiation source.

FM Antenna For better FM stereo

Front SpeakersConnect the speaker wires to the SPEAKERSterminals, right speaker to "R" and left speaker to"L", coloured (marked) wire to "+" and black(unmarked) wire to "-".

Fully insert the stripped portion of the speakerwire into the terminal as shown.

Notes:– To avoid magnetic interference, do not positionthe front speakers too close to the PC monitor/TV.– For optimal sound performance, use thesupplied speakers.– Do not connect more than one speaker to anyone pair of +/- speaker terminals.– Do not connect speakers with impedance lowerthan the speakers supplied. Please refer to theSPECIFICATIONS section of this manual.

Analogue audio connections

AUX/CDR IN (R/L)Use a cinch cable to connect these terminals tothe analogue audio out terminals of an externalequipment (TV, VCR, Laser Disc player, DVDplayer or CD Recorder).

LINE OUT (R/L)Use a cinch cable to connect these terminals tothe analogue audio inputs of any analog audioequipment (amplifier/receiver or tape recorder,for example).

Notes:– Do not connect equipment to both theLINE OUT and AUX/CDR IN terminals at thesame time. Otherwise, noise will be generated andmalfunction might occur.– If you are connecting equipment with amonaural output (a single audio out terminal),connect it to the AUX/CDR IN left terminal.Alternatively, you can use a “single to double” cinchcable (the output sound will still remain mono).

Subwoofer out connection

Connect the subwoofer to the SUBWOOFEROUT terminal. The subwoofer reproduces justthe low bass sound effects (explosions or therumble of spaceships, for example).

Preparations

Inserting batteries into theremote controlInsert two batteries (type R06 or AA) into theremote control with the correct polarity asindicated by the “+” and ”-” symbols insidethe battery compartment.

First time setup/power up

3 The system will proceed to set the RDS clock ifthe first preset is an RDS station. "INSTALLINSTALLINSTALLINSTALLINSTALL" is displayed, followed by "TIMETIMETIMETIMETIME"and "SEARCH RDS TIMESEARCH RDS TIMESEARCH RDS TIMESEARCH RDS TIMESEARCH RDS TIME". If the first preset is non-RDS station; The programme will exit automatically.

To reinstall Plug and Play

Switching the system to EcoPower standby mode (< 0.5W)

Press and hold STANDBY ON (or B on theremote control) for more than three seconds. "ECO POWER MODEECO POWER MODEECO POWER MODEECO POWER MODEECO POWER MODE" is displayed, then thedisplay screen will go blank. The low power LED will be lighted.

Power saving automatic standby

As a power-saving feature, the system willautomatically switch to Standby mode if you donot press any buttons within 30 minutes after adisc has stopped playing.

Dim modeYou can select the desired brightness for thedisplay.

Press DIM on the remote control repeatedly toselect DIM 1, DIM 2, DIM 3 or DIM OFF displaymode. DIM and the corresponding dim level willappear on the display, except for DIM OFFmode.

Volume control

To listen through the headphones Connect the headphones plug to the n socket

at the front of the system. The speakers will be muted.

For optimal sound listening, you are onlyable to select BASS/TREBLE or wOOx at atime.

There are three wOOx settings to enhance thebass response.

Press wOOx repeatedly to select the nextwOOx level or switch the wOOx effect off :wOOx 3, wOOx 2, wOOx 1 or wOOx OFF. WOOX and the corresponding wOOx levelwill appear on the display, except for wOOxOFF mode.

Notes:– When switched off the wOOx effect, the lastBass/Treble will resume automatically.– Some discs might be recorded in highmodulation, which causes a distortion at highvolume. If this occurs, deactivate wOOx or reducethe volume.

Allows you to navigate through the contents ofthe currently selected source/service.

Connecting to your PC (PC-LINK)This feature allows you to stream your favoriteMP3 music from your PC via the home PC’snetwork. In order to enjoy the PC-Link, youhave to install the PC-Link PC application. Thisapplication can be downloaded from“http://My.Philips.com”.

Discs for playback

This system is able to play :– All pre-recorded audio CDs– All finalised audio CDR and audio

CDRW discs– CD’s with MP3 and/or MP3PRO files (files

end with .mp3)

Loading disc

1 Press OPEN/CLOSEto open the disc tray.

2 Load in a disc with thelabel side facing up.

3 Press OPEN/CLOSEagain to close the disctray. The system detects the type of disc beingloaded, “CDCDCDCDCD” or “MP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CDMP3 CD” is displayed. The system then starts to retrieve textinformation for the disc.

Notes:– To ensure good system performance, wait untilthe disc tray completely reads the disc beforeproceeding.– For MP3 discs, the disc reading time may exceed10 seconds due to the large number of songscompiled onto one disc.

Tuning to radio stations

Setting the RDS clock

Some RDS radio station may be transmitting areal clock time at an interval of every minute. Itis possible to set the clock by using a time signalwhich is broadcast together with the RDS signal.

1 Press CLK/TIMER twice. "00:0000:0000:0000:0000:00" or current time starts flashing.

Creating your user account

GENERAL

The system does not react when – Remove the AC power plug for one minute.buttons are pressed. Then reconnect and switch on the system again.

Sound cannot be heard or is of poor – Adjust the volume.quality. – Disconnect the headphones.

– Check that the speakers are connected correctly.– Check if the stripped speaker wire is clamped

into the speaker terminal.– Make sure the MP3-CD was recorded within

32-256 kbps bit rate with sampling frequenciesat 16 kHz, 22,05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz, 44,1 kHzor 48 kHz.

The left and right sound outputs are – Check the speaker connections and location.reversed.

The remote control does not function – Select the source (CD or TUNER, for example)properly. before pressing the function button (É,í,ë).

– Reduce the distance between the remotecontrol and the system.

– Insert the batteries with their polarities(+/– signs) aligned as indicated.

– Replace the batteries.– Point the remote control directly toward the

IR sensor on the front of the system.

The timer is not working. – Set the clock correctly.– Press TIMER ON/OFF to switch on the timer.
