Members of the Marketing & Media Club participated in a trek to London 17-18 June to meet with 6 companies that each provided a unique perspective into their marketing and media roles. While in London, trek participants also had the opportunity to meet several HEC alumni that have proven great resources for the London area and beyond.

‘The London Marketing & Media trek was incredible! Obviously for the networking, but what we didn’t expect was the educational opportunity that we received with each meeting: New Product Development from Evian (some of it confidential!), Social Media with BT, the creative process at Samsung... I can’t count how many times we said ‘Wow’’ Janine Quatrevingt, M&M President

Interested in participating in a Trek? Check out the calendar on page 4 for details on upcoming treks to Switzerland, Brussels, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, and New York. It’s a great way to candidly learn more about a place, sector or industry.

We are looking forward to the upcoming activities of the HEC MBA Energy Club. After a summer that included not only beach vacations, but also several internships and pro-bono projects within the energy field.

We are planning to participate the “Solar Med 2010” Conference in Paris and will be coordinating several company visits to continue to increase our network and investigate possible future opportunities in the ever-growing energy and renewables sectors.

For those who are considering a career

in these sectors, we recommend you join us as we plan projects for 2011. Several energy-related projects are already beginning to be confirmed. We have even begun to define a partnership with Veolia for the 2011 VoL week.

We welcome any who share this interest to become a part of a devoted team that is not only talking about energy, but actually doing energy!

Honorine Lallet, from the HEC finance department, has provided information on options for financing your MBA HEC tuition. The options are worth considering:

• Bank loans: be aware that when seeking a loan with any French bank (BNPP, Societe Generale and Credit Lyonnais), a French guarantor is required.

• Payment schedule: in the event of a hardship or particular situation, you may ask Honorine to provide you with a personalized payment schedule.

• There are some French administrative services that may help to finance your studies (“la CAF“: Caisses d’Allocations Familiales, l’ANPE and la Region).

• Taxation: depending on your country’s tax system, it may be in your interest to request a specific payment schedule.

• If you obtain an internship in France, you can propose to the company to use the “Convention de Formation” as a means to pay your tuition directly to HEC rather than receiving a salary.

For further information, Honorine Lallet is at your disposal in her office (first floor in the building behind the library). All payment schedules must be formalized with HEC. Yann Gobert, Treasurer

The purpose of the party was to raise money to buy a flat screen TV for the piano bar so that everyone could enjoy wathching the World cup together on a big screen. The TV cost 449 euros, and the total cost of the party including alcohol and other accessories for the TV was 895 euros. The money we collected from selling tickets for the World Cup party and World Cup betting game was 900 euros. Aude de Maleprade, Treasurer

MBA Council Members and respective club presidents kicked off various activities immediately upon election. Though the time was short, clubs began organizing seminars, networking events and planning treks. The buddy system and integration week plans for the new incoming students were well executed by the MBA Council. There has been a delay in procuring a suggestion box however, this is being addressed. Though the financial audit is not yet finalized, accounts for events through July 2010 have been verified for accuracy. An in depth report will be ready by October. Mukul Khanna, Auditor

MBA NEWS

The 2010 Association HEC General Assembly was held June 15th at the Paris Chamber of Commerce. More than 400 Alumni were invited, and for the first time, more than 20 MBA students were present. The Assembly proved a great opportunity to network and to understand better the organization of the association. Xavier Romatet (MBA 86), freshly reelected as the president, introduced the PariTech, foundation HEC, and its financial reports.

For those who are not yet aware of it, PariTech is a research and education cluster of excellence composed of several French Grandes Écoles (11 engineering schools) and HEC. PariTech offers cross educational program and higher capacity of research. The HEC Foundation, created in 1972 and headed by Daniel Bernard, plans to collect 100 million Euros within 5 years to reinforce its leadership position in Europe and worldwide. For instance, 26% of the 2009 budget (3.445 million euros) was allocated to student scholarship.

Xavier Romatet also emphasizes the importance of the mentoring program. Today, 750 alumni have accepted to

mentor 450 mentees. The Mentor is a counselor who is competent, legitimate and experienced in the subject(s) in which the mentee is interested. It provides the opportunity for the mentee to have someone to listen to and with whom to have discussions in order to grow professionally. The objective of the programme is to reach at least 1000 mentors by the end of the year.

Following the General Assembly, the alumni team of the MBA Council held a meeting to determine the main objectives for this fall and translate it into an action plan (to promote the mentor programme during the Asia Pacific trek, study the possibilities of subscription to the HEC Association, and mapping the HEC alumni network worldwide).

We would like to thank Hiroko Ikesako for organizing the alumni picnic held on 20 June 2010 here on the HEC campus. The event was a great occasion to network with alumni from the 1990 MBA in a more relax and friendly atmosphere. Thank you Hiroko San for taking the initiative to make this event a great success.

We would like to also encourage everyone with ideas for connecting with the alumni network to contact us to organize future events. The MBA Council alumni team needs your help and your involvement to make your time in HEC as profitable as possible.

For any Alumni event, please feel free to contact our Team. We remain available to your questions and remarks. Mickael Perpoil, Director and Thomas Wheeler, Co-Director, Alumni Relations

MBA NEWS5

Bienvenue à HECIt is only fitting that the first ever newsletter of the MBA Council coincides with one of the most important events of Fall 2010 - the welcoming of the September 2010 intake. Although the administration and MBA Council had a few sleepless nights while preparing for the arrival of the new intake, we are glad that the initial welcomes and logistics ran smoother than expected.

We are happy the weather cooperated on Friday and so many new faces joined us for the welcome BBQ hosted by the MBA Council at the HEC lake.

We are certain the coming months will be full of various challenges and stresses of the MBA. It is our hope that we on the MBA Council can help make the HEC experience a truly wonderful one for each of you.

On behalf of the entire HEC community, it is our sincerest pleasure to welcome the members of the September 2010 intake, double-degree participants and new exchange students to HEC. We are certain that each of you will contribute richly to the HEC MBA programme. Ankit Khanna, Vice President, MBA CouncilMBA Council members welcome new participants
