finance career paths, by virtue of their conversations with professionals who have succeeded in the field.  Timeline  Please indicate your interest by November 1, 2008 by contacting Bill Sherman, Asst Director for Employer Relations, LCB Career Services: [email protected] or (541) 346‐3696.  Students will be asked to submit a formal application describing their interest and goals in connecting with a mentor within the same timeframe.  Student Background  You will receive a resume from the student with a detailed description of their professional and academic background and an expression of interest in your field.  Outcome  We measure success in terms of the satisfaction that you as professional gain from your interactions with the student, as well as the student’s ability to achieve clarity in their choice of careers.  Program FAQ  Will this take much of my time?   Students will be informed about the best means of contacting you, as well as the protocol for interaction—on the phone, in person, online, etc.  We intend to put the burden on the students to maintain the relationship.  All we ask from the employers is to honor the spirit of mentoring by being reasonably available to students and bringing forward their best ideas in a manner that is most comfortable for them.    What do you need me for?  A short biography (1 paragraph is sufficient) describing your background and experience, as well as your periodic feedback about the program and/or the relationship with your mentee.     Am I expected to hire this student?  We have informed the student that the program objective is not to pursue a job or internship with the mentor, but to gather information for career planning and professional development.

How much involvement will the college have in this relationship?    We will be checking in with you and your mentee periodically and are fully available to facilitate the relationship in whatever way is helpful to you.  We would like you to circle back with us from time to time to offer your feedback on the mentoring experience.    How specific are students going to be about their career goals?    During the first year of the program, MBA students are still clarifying their career goals.  Second‐year students should have well‐formed career goals after their summer internship.    What is the format?  The format of mentoring depends on the needs and preferences of the mentor and mentee.  This could include open‐ended phone calls, email exchanges, web‐cams, and face‐to‐face interactions—whatever is most comfortable and productive for you and the mentee.   The SAC and LCB Career Services are happy to help aid this connection in any way we can (for example, sponsoring an initial meeting between the two of you).  Who will do the matching?  The Securities Analysis Center and LCB Career Services will work together to match mentees with mentors based on background, interests, and goals.   What defines success?    We will consider the program a success if you come away satisfied with this experience, have interest in mentoring for a second year, or recommend the Career Insights Network to other industry professionals.  It is our hope that the Career Insights Network will allow you a closer relationship with the student, the college, and the university.     Please address additional questions and comments to Ben Salm, Managing Director of the Securities Analysis Center at the University of Oregon: [email protected]
