FROM HEALTH SERVICES, Megan Barbour: •One area audited in Skilled Nursing Facilities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is how many routine medications a person is currently taking. CMS typically looks more in depth at any person taking more than nine routine medications as some research has shown that persons taking too many medications can counteract and not serve their correct purposes. In April of 2018, the average routine medications for a resident in Shenandoah and Chesapeake (Skilled Nursing licensed neighborhoods) was 8.6 medications. This April of 2019 we are pleased to say that this number has dropped to an average of 6.3 medications. The Creighton Center nursing staff continually works with CVS Omnicare Pharmacy and physicians on medication reductions were appropriate and makes medication recommendations as necessary. •The new Director of Social Work, Marian Adjei-Ampomah, started in orientation this past week. We are excited to have her on board.
