In Shark Waters Parent News from Bayfront Charter High School www.bayfrontcharter.com “If You Build it…They Will Come…” This memorable quote from the movie Field of Dreams could not be more appropriate… as Mueller prepares to dedicate the new athletic complex that is within walking distance of Bayfront. After several years of data revealed that our students on the west side of Chula Vista have lower levels of overall fitness—and after watching all the new fields and recreation centers installed next to new schools in eastern Chula Vista… we decided to give our students a place to play! The new complex, funded almost entirely through a state grant, includes a (nearly) full size soccer and football field, and a state-of-the-art softball field on artificial turf. In addition, Mueller’s running track has been resurfaced with rubber and the play structures have been refurbished and installed over a soft rubber surface. The fields are almost complete… and they look amazing! Mueller will host its 18 th Annual Olympic Festival on May 25, and will include Bayfront athletes in the ribbon cutting! SHARK BYTES… BAYFRONT STUDENTS TAKE THE CAASPP On May 17th and 18th, our Juniors will take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (aka: the CAASPP!) This is a computer-based, standardized test that is required for all students in California. The CAASPP tests students’ proficiency in Language Arts and Math, and is administered for grades 3 – 8, and 11. There are two parts to the assessment (a Performance Task, and a Computer Adaptive section) which are taken on separate days. While the 11th graders take the CAASPP for Language Arts and Math, our 10th graders will take the California Science Test (CAST10). This test takes appx. 1 hour.

Lady Sharks Softball features much improved pitching, fielding, hitting…and uniforms! We are looking forward to seeing our softball program grow into a South Bay powerhouse on the new athletics complex at Mueller!
