Akhilanand Chaurasia My job title is Assistant Professor and Consultant, presently working in King George Medical University, Lucknow, India. I am an on-call consultant and I manage oral cancer patients suffering from post-radiation osteonecrosis, oral mucositis, hyposalivation, radiation caries and post-radiation trismus. I deliver training to oral cancer patients for proper oral hygiene maintenance post treatment. Oral cancer is an extremely common cancer in India; we encounter a number of cases daily. Since we are a developing country, facilities are limited - particularly in the context of providing supportive care. I joined MASSC/ISOO to get updated and stay connected to the field of supportive care, with the aim of contributing to improved quality life for my patients.

Karin B. Dieperink I am employed as a senior nurse by the Department of Oncology at Odense University Hospital, Denmark, and I work in cancer rehabilitation as a manager and researcher at the Rehabilitation Centre Dallund. The topics of my PhD included supportive care and rehabilitation after prostate cancer. During this research I gained an understanding of how important interdisciplinary collaboration is to \undertake high quality research and ultimately design and deliver evidence based clinical practice. I have participated in MASCC annual meetings in New York in 2012 and Berlin in 2013, and am I excited about participating in Miami 2014 as well. In the future, I will be more involved in family nursing and management of elderly cancer patients. As a member of MASCC, I hope to find international collaborators with the same interests.

William Fahl I am a Professor of Oncology in the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the University of Wisconsin (UW). My career research interest has been in how to design, synthesize and use small drug molecules to protect mammalian cells against radiation and chemical toxins. Most of my research has involved preclinical animal model studies at Wisconsin, but over the past 7 years it has also involved collaboration with clinical colleagues at UW and elsewhere to translate our preclinical findings into clinical studies to suppress radiotherapy and chemotherapy side effects in cancer patients. MASCC and ISOO provide a global forum for sharing data and study results. We had just achieved preclinical results showing complete prevention of oral mucositis in both mouse and hamster models, and identified the MASCC/ISOO annual meeting as the best place to share this outcome and work to establish partnerships for upcoming clinical studies.

Retirement Category for MASCC Membership If you are a member of MASCC who is retired (age 65 or greater), you may request a reduced membership fee. This new membership category has a fee of $50USD per year, with online access to the journal. It will be handled by the MASCC office, so if you have any questions, please contact MASCC Executive Director Åge Schultz, by email at: [email protected]
