Dear Friends, Earlier this month on May 13, 15 young people successfully completed our Leadership Training Workshop for Munting Titsers which was held at the Kiddie Room of Mandaluyong City’s Lingap Karunungan Center on Martinez St., Bgy. Addition Hills. Munting Titsers are the 9-14 year olds who have been helping us in Aral Kalinga, our education program, as peer tutors. Why do they like being MTs? A most important reason was meeting other children and making new friends. Then, there was the pleasure of being able to help and of being listened to and their awe in the changes they saw in themselves “naiwasan ang pagiging madaldal”, “humaba ang pasensiya”, “hindi na nagiging makulit”, “natutong magkusa” (I stopped being a chatterbox, I became more patient, I stopped being so stubborn, I’ve become a self- starter). Child-Led Projects We challenged the children to think of projects to help them become better tutors and individuals, raise their profile in the community, and encourage others to experience the joy of being a Munting Titser. The children were divided into three groups with each proposing a project: a. A series of training workshops in July on how to communicate better and on teaching techniques b. A quiz bee to be held in October (Children’s Month) c. A recruitment drive for Munting Titsers Over the next few weeks, the children will be fleshing out their plans and creating a timetable for action. The coming months promises to be an exciting time. We promise to keep you posted on the children’s doings. Olie Lucas President Unang Hakbang Foundation May 2010 Help keep our programs running. Make a donation. Dear Friends,

Earlier this month on May 13, 15 young people successfully completed our Leadership Training Workshop for Munting Titsers which was held at the Kiddie Room of Mandaluyong City’s Lingap Karunungan Center on Martinez St., Bgy. Addition Hills. Munting Titsers are the 9-14 year olds who have been helping us in Aral Kalinga, our education program, as peer tutors.

Why do they like being MTs? A most important reason was meeting other children and making new friends. Then, there was the pleasure of being able to help and of being listened to and their awe in the changes they saw in themselves – “naiwasan ang pagiging madaldal”, “humaba ang pasensiya”, “hindi na nagiging makulit”, “natutong magkusa” (I stopped being a chatterbox, I became more patient, I stopped being so stubborn, I’ve become a self-starter).

Child-Led Projects We challenged the children to think of projects to help them become better tutors and individuals, raise their profile in the community, and encourage others to experience the joy of being a Munting Titser. The children were divided into three groups with each proposing a project:

a. A series of training workshops in July on how to communicate better and on teaching techniques

b. A quiz bee to be held in October (Children’s Month) c. A recruitment drive for Munting Titsers

Over the next few weeks, the children will be fleshing out their plans and creating a timetable for action. The coming months promises to be an exciting time. We promise to keep you posted on the children’s doings.
