How About an Adventure?
Boy Scouts prove themselves in an environment that challenges their courage and tests their nerve. After they’ve been given the proper guidance from those
with experience and know-how, they take their own lead, going places they’ve never gone, seeing things they’ve never seen,
and diving into the rugged world of outdoor adventure, relying on teamwork and
character to accomplish what everyone else thinks is impossible.
Sound fun? If you’re a boy age 11, or at least 10 and have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout
Arrow of Light Award, to 17 years old, the time for a real adventure is now. New and prospective Troop members are invited to attend an informational meeting May 15 at
7:00 PM, in room 310.

Looking back to last Sunday . . .
i hope that you have seen the offering amount for our Join in! special stewardship emphasis. Last Sunday we gave $271,903.55 in support of the missions and ministries of our church. Thank you for your wonderful generosity! (By comparison, our special offering day last year
was $136,000) i encourage us all to continue with faithful stewardship through the summer months so that we can fully support the work that God is doing through our church.
Speaking of an offering, Sunday night was also a tremendous offering. our orchestra and Adult Handbell choirs brought their tremendous gifts of beautiful music as they led us in worship. Thank you to all who made the “music of the spheres.”
Looking ahead to this coming Sunday . . .
Mother’s Day gives us a chance to remember our Moms. i want to do something with my message this year that i have never done. The title is a bit unusual – “When Mom is an Adult – and You are Too!” (John 2:1-11 and John 19:26-27) often a preacher’s message on Mother’s Day is about how to be a good mother. We focus on ways that young mothers can raise, educate, and nurture their children. These messages are helpful, but what happens when the child grows up? How do adult children relate to their Moms? Fortunately we have a wonderful model in Jesus. There are two encounters between Jesus and Mary that are mentioned in the Gospel of John. one happened at the beginning of his ministry; one at the end. We can learn from the way Jesus and Mary related to one another. i invite you to explore these lessons with me on Sunday morning.
