Telefónica Europe

• O2 plc was acquired for £17.7 billion (26 billion Euros) by Telefónica S.A. in January 2006

• Combining the two created one of the world’s largest integrated telecoms operators

• The acquisition gave Telefónica entry to the two largest and most competitive mobile markets in Europe – the UK and Germany
