BOBJ Availability & Performance Challenges• Availability is critical because users of BI are typically management

reporting and business analysts needing important reports. These BOBJ components

– Enterprise node

– Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)

– BI servers

– BI services

• Performance: utilization, workload, trend analysis

– Hosts

– Probes

– Servers

– Jobs

• Alerts

– Events, traces

“Properly deploying your SAP BusinessObjects BI4 or SAP Lumira landscape involves more than punching some numbers into a calculator and installing the right number of servers. Approaching this from a BI systems perspective means understanding how your BI system works and making intelligent decisions to ensure good system performance and stability.” – SAP http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-33183

What’s Available for BOBJ Monitoring from SAP?

• BI CMC (Central Management Console)– Leverages the Monitoring Service of the CMS (Central

Management Server)

– Setup requires configuration using Monitoring section in BI Platform Administrator Guide http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/sbo42/en/sbo42sp2_bip_admin_en.pdf

– Uses either Derby DB (temporary) or Trending DB (Auditing Data Store – ADS)

– Host data requires SAPHOSTAGENT ‘saposcol’

– Dashboard, Metrics, Watchlist, Probes & Alerts• Probes need scheduling

• Alerts need Watchlist, i.e. set rules with threshold to trigger events, and configure email notifications

– Not a centralized enterprise monitoring solution
