"IF ANYONE WANTS TO BE FIRST, HE MUST MAKE HIMSELF LAST OF ALL AND SERVANT OF ALL"

In our relations with one another, do we always want to be in control? Or are we willing to take the risk, as Christ commanded, of serving one another in humility?

TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: Wisdom 2:12, 17-20. Those who are just will suffer for their virtuous life. Second Reading: James 3:16-4:3. Real prayer can overcome the violence that arises in us because of our thwarted desires. Gospel: Mark 9:30-37. Jesus tells us that true leadership will only be effective through humble service. ***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** ST. PATRICK’S SCHOOL MASS: Tuesday, September 22nd at 2pm. Everybody welcome to attend!

PASTORAL CARE AT ST PATRICK'S: Parish Pastoral Care volunteers and those interested in learning more,

are invited to attend a meeting in the hall on Tuesday, September 22 @ 6pm.

THE SPIRITUALITY OF GRATITUDE – AN EVENING WITH FR. DARRIN GURR: Thursday, September 24, 2015, 7 – 9 pm, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish (753 W Burnside Road, Victoria, BC V8Z 1M9). Father Darrin J.G. Gurr, B.A., M. Div., M.A., is a priest of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg ordained to the priesthood in 1989. He has worked in both rural and urban par-ishes and has employed the principles of stewardship in all aspects of ministry. Fr. Darrin has facilitated workshops, confer-ences, study days and retreats in stewardship throughout Canada and in parts of the United States. He is currently the found-ing pastor of the new parish community of St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a comprehensive steward-ship parish. Fr. Darrin also serves as the Archdiocesan Director for Liturgy.

USHERS: Father Al will be facilitating a Day of Reflection for all the Ushers on Saturday, September 26th from

1:30 to 3:30pm, in the Parish Library. Parishioners willing to join this ministry are also welcome to attend.

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE: A Development and Peace Diocesan AGM and Fall Action workshop entitled “Create a Climate of Change”, will be held on Sat. Sep. 26 at the Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Rd., Parks-ville. You are invited to come and learn how climate change is having the worst impacts on the poor and what you can do about it! The meeting begins at 9:30 with the workshop followed in the afternoon with the AGM and ends at 3:30. Ascension has Sat. daily mass at 9:00 if you wish to come early. Coffee and refreshments at 9:30 before the meeting. Lunch is provided, but you may bring along something to share. For more info or carpooling please contact [email protected] or phone: 250-477-6952

DO YOU LIKE TO SING? HERE’S YOUR BIG CHANCE. We are looking for a group of singers to assist our guitarist, for one Saturday 7 pm Mass per month. You may need to attend a practice before Mass or sometime during the week--think of the fellowship opportunities! Helping to lead the singing at Mass can be a lot of fun, as well as a gift of your talent for the Lord and the community. Please see Father Al or contact the office. AND we need Psalm Cantors, who are readers who proclaim scripture in a very special way. This ancient liturgical role is being filled wonderfully by Sabina at the 10:30 Mass but we need people to assist at both the 10:30 and the other weekend Masses. Please talk to Susan (contact info on the bulletin cover) if you would like to try serving in this important ministry.

MOMS AND TOTS: Did you know that St. Patrick’s has a group for parents with children under 5? It’s called Moms and Tots (Dads are also welcome) and meets from 9:30 – 11am in the Parish Centre for friendship and fel-lowship. There is a group of volunteers who keep the children busy with games, stories and snack time in Our Lady of Lourdes Hall, while the parents gather in a separate room to talk about parenting and other issues in a faith based environment. If you are interested in joining the group which starts Wed. October 7 or want more infor-mation, please contact Pauline Scherr at 250-592-9424 or email at [email protected]
