Our readings this first Sunday of Lent prepare us for the entire Lenten Journey. This season is a time that the Church has set aside to give us a chance to take a step back and reflect on the choices we have made during the last year and as we move forward during this season of Lent. It is a time to assess what is most important in our lives and one that
helps us to be ready to stand outside the tomb of Jesus on Easter morning to celebrate our new life in the resurrection of Jesus. In spending the 40 days in the desert preparing for His mission by fasting and praying, Jesus gave us a plan and a path to get through life. Jesus chose not to use His divine power to establish His life on earth; rather, He chose to be fully human to help us understand the need to resist temptation and how we can best serve God. Our Gospel reading gives us the roadmap to gain the abundance of grace that we all need as we travel on our life journey. Jesus faced the temptation of power and wealth. He never lost sight of whom to serve. Jesus faced hunger both spiritually and physically as a reminder for us that we are also to fast during Lent so that we may always hunger for God. Ultimately, we are asked whom will we serve. Let this Lenten season be a time for all of us to seek the peace and solitude of the desert in quiet prayer where there is little distraction to discern our choices. Let it be a time to return to God with all our hearts who is the source of grace and mercy. Let us prayerfully consider the path that we will take on our journey. May God bless you on your Lenten journey, Deacon Joe

MARY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND SCHOOL MARCH 2020
SAINT JOSEPH, SPOUSE OF THE BLESSED
VIRGIN MARY
We celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, on March 19th. Prayers to St.
Joseph, the foster-father of Jesus, date back almost as
far as Our Lord’s time! Although he came from King
David’s noble lineage, St. Joseph lived a life of great humility and devotion
to his Holy Family as a carpenter. This occasion is an opportunity to
highlight the gift of adoption by seeking the intercession of St. Joseph for
the many people whose lives are touched by adoption.
Invoking the intercession of St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, we pray that
the Lord will bless all who travel upon the path of adoption. And, recalling
the mercy which God our Father has shown to us, we also ask that,
through our words and actions, they may encounter the outstretched
hands of his mercy. May all know the care of the Father, whose love for
each person “gushes forth from the depths naturally, full of tenderness
and compassion, indulgence and mercy” (Misericordiae vultus, 6).
(USCCB.com)
THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD – March 25
The announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she
would conceive a son by the power of the Holy Spirit to be
called Jesus (Luke 1:26–38). The angel’s
pronouncement is met with Mary’s willing
consent (“Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it
be with me according to your word”), and thus
precipitates the Incarnation of Christ and his
redemption of the world. The Feast of the
Annunciation is celebrated on March 25 (Lady Day), nine months before
Christmas.
“The Annunciation, recounted at the beginning of St. Luke’s Gospel is a
humble, hidden event – no-one saw it; no-one except Mary knew of it,
but, at the same time, it was crucial to the history of humanity. When
the Virgin said her “yes” to the Angel’s announcement, Jesus was
conceived and with him began the e new era of history that was to be
ratified in Ester as the “new and eternal Covenant”…Pope Benedict XVI
