The percentage of children aged611 years in the United Stateswho were obese increased from7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in2008. Childhood Obesity Facts (contd) In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescentswere overweight or obese. Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for aparticular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or acombination of these factors. Obesity is defined as havingexcess body fat.
