It’s with sincere appreciation and a heart-felt ‘Thank You’ that we welcome you to Holiday Spirit, SGMC’s 30th Anniversary holiday concert! The concert that you will

enjoy today is a culmination of many months of coordinating countless moving parts: rehearsals, choral-ography and staging, to name just a few.

For thirty years we have been committed to cre- ating one of the most enjoyable holiday concerts in the region. To continue to do so, we need your help as ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of producing a show like Holiday Spirit. Thanks to our individual donors, corporate sponsors, business advertisers and the Sacramento Metro-politan Arts Commission, we are able to bring quality choral concerts to our region.

We are constantly striving to elevate our musi-cianship, showmanship and creativity. Fulfilling this vision means that we continue to seek out partnership opportunities in the region. With your help, we expect to be part of the fabric of this community for many decades to come. If you have comments to share, please get in touch: [email protected]

In addition to working on our 30th Anniversary Season, we are focused on preparing a strategic plan for the future of SGMC. In looking back over our first 30 years, there are countless sto-ries to be told, both joyful and sad. The heart

and soul of SGMC has always been the sense of community that the group has nurtured while producing concerts throughout the region. To honor that commitment, we invite those of you that are doing estate planning to consider des-ignating a portion of your estate to the SGMC Endowment Fund at the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation, with your support; our voices be heard into perpetuity.

After the final performance of Holiday Spirit, we will then jump into preparations for our Cre-scendo Fundraising Dinner at Mulvaney’s on March 21. The final event of our 30th Anni-versary Season is the one-night-only, Milestones concert on Friday May 8th, 2015 at Memorial Auditorium. This over-the-top event is truly NOT to be missed, mark your calendars and bring your friends; this will be an exuberant evening with a number of very special surprises.

Thank you for attending Holiday Spirit, we hope that our music fills you with the spirit of the season and that it encourages you to sing your own song throughout the coming year!

Cheers!

Steven Johnson,Artistic Director/Conductor

Steven Johnson Artistic Director/ConductorSteven Johnson is a CSU Sacramento Alumnus with a Bachelors degree

in piano performance and a Masters degree in conducting.

Steven is a full-time musician and he spends his time between SGMC and his post at St. John’s Lutheran church where he currently serves as Director of worship and music. (A heartfelt thank you to St. John’s for their continued support of SGMC)

Steven enjoys talking about spiritual wisdom and is on a quest to understand more fully the universal laws of creativity. “It’s messy, chaotic, irritating, comical, intuitive, requires vision, fortitude, team work, ‘letting go’ and an inherent understanding of what you’re passionate about. Music has always been a great passion and I believe fully that music transcends us to greater realms where we all resonate with the ‘oneness’ of who we really are.”

Kay Hight rinci Acco nist/Assist nt DirectorKay is thrilled to be back for her fourth season with SGMC! Ms. Hight has worked as a pianist, orchestra member, conductor, musical director and vocalist with various performance groups throughout California - and has twice been awarded a SARTA Elly Award for her work in the local theatre community. After attending the American Musical and Dramatics Academy in Los Angeles for Musical Theatre studies, Kay returned to her NorCal roots and has been with SGMC ever since.

An administrative professional with Northwest Hydraulics Consultants by day, Ms. Hight still fills most of her nights and weekends rehearsing

with local organizations and performing throughout the Sacramento region. She would like to thank her fiancee Patrick for his constant love and support, and hopes that everyone has the happiest of holidays!

ENGLISHGlory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.We praise you,we bless you,we adore you,we glorify you,we give you thanks for your great glory,Lord God, heavenly King,O God, almighty Father.Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.Amen.

“Gloria in excelsis Deo” (Latin for “Glory to God in the highest”) is a hymn known also as the Greater Doxology. The hymn begins with the words that the angels sang when the birth of Christ was announced to shepherds in Luke 2:14

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

You know Dasher & Dancer & Prancer & Vixen,Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen

But do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (reindeer)Had a very shiny nose (like a light bulb)And if you ever saw it (saw it)You would even say it glows (like a fl ashlight)And all of the other reindeer (reindeer)Used to laugh and call him names (like Pinocchio)They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph)Join in any reindeer games(like monopoly)

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,Santa came to say, (ho ho ho)Rudolph with your nose so bright,Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeer loved him,(loved him)And they shouted out with glee, (Yippee)Rudolph the red-nose Reindeer (reindeer)You’ll go down in history!

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

You better watch out, You better not cryYou better not pout I’m telling you why,Santa Claus is coming to town. He’s making a list, Checking it twice;Gonna fi nd out who’s naughty or nice.Santa Claus is coming to town.

He sees you when you’re sleepingHe knows when you’re awakeHe knows if you’ve been bad or goodSo be good for goodness sake. You better watch out, You better not cryYou better not pout I’m telling you why,Santa Claus is coming to town!
