Moving Inclusion & Diversity Forward
BRG’s are a key component from helping to attract new talent to HTM to allowing current
associates to be engaged in multiple activities. These associate-led, company-supported groups
that include associates aligned across broad constituencies such as gender, race/ethnicity, ability,
life stage and experiences are already helping to enhance Honda’s competitive positioning by
impacting the four areas of Commerce, Community, Culture and Career.
HTM currently has four BRG’s (AARCH) African American Resource Collaborative of Honda,
(HYP) Honda Young Professionals, (TLG) The Leadership Group and (HPW) Honda Powered
by Women. While we currently host these four groups, there are forty groups that are
represented within the Honda family across North America. These groups includes, but are
not limited to, LDIA, Spectrum, Earth and Military Veterans.
If you are interested in starting a group or joining one of HTM’s current groups, please contact
Pilate Bradley in Administration for more information.

HTM Hosts the North America Bloc NH-Circle Convention
On Oct 14-18 HTM hosted NHC teams from North America, Japan, China, Vietnam ,
Mexico and Thailand. The delegates received a warm welcome, as they arrived at the Marriot
Hotel in Columbus, from the HTM NAB Team and NAB Committee members.
The convention schedule included a Welcome Reception, Team Building
Activity, Presentation of Projects and HTM Tour, Sayonara Dinner and Culture Day.
• During their welcome reception Brutus, the OSU mascot, made an appearance to
entertain the delegates.
• Team building involved the delegates breaking out into teams, building a putt-putt golf
course out of boxed and canned food. Using their imagination to create unique courses.
After the event all the food was donated to Our Daily Bread in Bellefontaine.
• Teams received a first class welcome from HTM when they arrived at the plant to present
their projects and tour the plant.
• At the Sayonara Banquet the delegates were entertained by Taiko Drummers , Music and
Laser Robots.
• On Culture Day they had a choice of visiting OSU Stadium and Barley’s Brewery or
Anthony Thomas Candy Co. and Franklin Conservatory
Thanks to all HTM Associates who made this event a success!6
Thanks again to everyone at HTM who helped to make the 2019 NAB Convention such a great success.
Our two attending teams have been talking non-stop about how exciting and fun the event was. In fact,
one of our team members who also has been to a World Bloc event in Ohio and a Toronto NAB
Convention said that the HTM event was by far the best he has attended. That's high praise, and even
more evidence that HTM hosted a spectacular event. Good job!
One of the comments we received from the convention:

Mark Walker
Division Manager
Ferrous Division
In this quarters segment of Leadership Insights we feature Mark Walker. Mark has been with
Honda for thirty-one years. He has worked in many capacities while being assigned at the
Anna Engine Plant, Alabama, Mexico and is currently the Division Manager of the Ferrous
Division here at Honda Transmission.
Through Mark’s Honda career he has experienced the Honda Philosophy in action at each of
his assignments. In today’s segment he would like to share what one of Honda’s Core Values
“Respect”, means to him.
“Respect for the Individual” is the foundation of the Honda Philosophy.
At Honda, we all wear the white uniform as a representation of the
culture of equality and respect Mr. Honda created when he started the
Honda Company. This was a unique concept at the time and when I
started working at Honda I felt included…like part of the racing team.
“Clear direct “Communication” generates respect.”
-- Mark Walker
and understand the actual situation. Currently we use emails and text messages to
communicate and this is quick and easy. However, many times the true intentions or priority
levels are lost. I believe the best communication is still face to face. Listening closely and
recognizing each others efforts, concerns and ideas.
Honda does not want associates to be afraid to “Speak Up”. There are multiple resources
such as Administration, Plant Safety, Division/Department Management, Coordinators/Team
leaders and Corporate Compliance & Ethics, which are available for associates to ask
questions, share concerns or gain clarity on policies.
Clear direct “Communication” generates respect. Mr. Honda exemplified this with his management style by going line-side to talk to associates
“Joy of Creating” is another aspect of the Honda Philosophy that fosters respect. It is a great
feeling when your line makes production for the day and has zero scrap. Most of the original
manufacturing lines were connected together in series and you had to depend on the
associates up-stream and down-stream to keep thing running smoothly. Being dependent on
each other created a sense of respect that everyone wanted to do a good job and be their best.
9
“Trust” is built from many positive
actions over time. Taking the next steps
makes a difference in creating respect,
by doing the tool change at the end of
the shift, staying over for the model
change and making sure things are set-
up for the next shift. A true measure of
respect is leaving things better than you
started.
Respect for the individual is very
important to me and has helped me to
succeed through many projects and
new model launches throughout my
career at Honda. We all come from
different backgrounds and have different viewpoints. Thinking creatively and leveraging these
differences to generate new ideas and to solve problems are the fundamentals Mr. Honda
developed in this management concept more than 60 years ago and it is still relevant today. I
enjoy being part of this team and being part of something bigger both are key components
which motivates me to take on new challenges.
The driving force behind Honda’s growth was the leadership of its founders – Mr. Soichiro
Honda and Mr. Takeo Fujisawa. The most valuable legacy which our founders gave to our
company is a philosophy. This Honda Philosophy will continue to serve as a basis of our daily
business action and judgements for all companies and associates within the Honda Group.
The Honda Philosophy is more than words on a sheet of paper. The philosophy has value only
when every Honda associate assumes responsibility to turn it into action. In so doing, together
we will maintain and grow our unique corporate culture and offer new value to society
