Support the Production of our Bulletin For quite some time we have been producing our own bulletin al-lowing us to meet the needs of the three languages. If we were to send this bulletin out to be produced, we would have to have one bulletin in English only for everyone and the publications of the Readings in Italian and Spanish would have to come to an end. Help us by Supporting our advertisers and also by placing an ad in our bulletin for a year. Please call the office for more information.

MASS INTENTIONS How is it that we are merely aware of the misery—poverty, discrimination, injustice around us? Is it because we have not learned to see, or that we prefer not to see? It is said of God in the Old Testament that he saw the misery of his people, and, seeing it, he liberated them. Jesus saw the misery of the people around him and he did all he could to free them. Let us ask the Lord here with us that we may learn to see our own afflictions and those of the people around us. Then we can, with God’s help, do something to remedy them.
My brothers and sisters, today’s Gospel reading challenges us once again as last Sunday, to think about material things. This weekend Jesus gives us the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. “There was a rich man…” In our present time as in Jesus times, there are many people who are very rich as well as a lot of people who live in extreme poverty. Here once again as last Sunday Jesus tells us how bad it can be when we do not use money in the right way. This sto-ry of Lazarus and the rich man shows us the great a difference between the wealth of one man and the poverty of the other. But the para-ble that Jesus gives us today is not meant to denigrate those who are rich and in a good fi-nancial position. No. Jesus gives us this parable in order to help us all to recognize the responsi-bilities with those it need. My brothers and sis-ters, this weekend Jesus Christ calls us to open our eyes to the poor, those who are at our own gates. He invites us open our hearts to welcome them with compassion: To feed the hungry; To give drink to the thirsty; To clothe the naked; To visit the sick; To bury the dead. At the end of our life “we will be remembered not for what we possess but for what we give; our lasting legacy will be what we contribute to make our world a happier, healthier place.”
Fr. Josue Vargas

Questions for Reflection: Do wealth and self-indulgence always go
together? How are they related to your ability to re-
spond to the needs of others? How can you take Christ’s message beyond
the sphere of the Church?

Life Chain
His Holiness, late Pope John Paul II in His Encyclical Letter “The Gospel of Life” said… “procured abortion is the deliberate and direct killing, by whatever means it is carried out, of a human being in the initial phase of his or her exist-ence…”. As Catholic Christians, we need to defend life and publicly oppose abortion. Life Chain is a simple and prayerful way to give public witness to the Truth that abortion is a violent de-struction of human life. To show your support, join members of St. Jude’s Parish on Sunday October 2nd from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the intersection of Jane and Finch . For more info contact: [email protected]
