Clearly, if self-knowledge is the platform for all successful leadership, we have to learn to pay attention and listen to the present moment in our lives. We need to become more aware of our thoughts, our feelings, our attitudes, and listen very carefully to what is happening within ourselves as we go about the ordinary business of daily life.
Releasing the Angel - Christopher Gleeson SJ
Breathe your Spirit into us,
And touch our lives with the life of Christ,
Amen
Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
This week students from Year 11 and 12 joined together with family, friends and staff at the Semester One Awards Ceremony. A large proportion of students from both years received at least one award and it is a proud moment for each and every student and for the group as a whole when names are called out, photos taken and certificates given. I mentioned to the audience that both groups are developing into outstanding young people with good hearts and an emerging sense of what they are capable of achieving.
Another point I made is that successful people are not “stuck” in the achievements of yesterday. They enjoy the moment of celebration and then move forward to the next challenge or goal. Always moving forward in a direction that is helping to get them to where they want to be. Always working on ways to improve and not counting the time or effort required.
I emphasised that the challenges ahead in the HSC are not beyond their grasp. The time left available to prepare well for what lies ahead is enough to ensure each of them can achieve their goals. Knowing what needs to be done starts with an inward journey of reflection. Taking an honest look at yourself and assessing where you are in terms of meeting your goals and having the courage to renew the commitment needed to continue until the end of the HSC.
A way to begin to self reflect might commence with the following:
Being aware of God’s presence today…
What was the best thing I heard?
What was the best thing I saw?
What was the best thing someone did for me?
What was the best thing I did for someone else?
What can I do to improve tomorrow?
Thank you God
………...
When we can be with what is, we can find peace, joy, even bliss, in our everyday lives…”All the way to heaven is heaven”, said Saint Catherine of Siena. We need to surrender to the happiness that is found in being with what is.”

PASTORAL CARE NEWS
This week we acknowledge Refugee Week (being held from Sunday 19 June to Saturday 25 June) which is Australia’s peak annual activity to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society.
The theme for Refugee Week “With courage let us all combine” is taken from the second verse of our national anthem, the theme celebrates the courage of refugees and of people who speak out against persecution and injustice. It serves as a call for unity and for positive action, encouraging Australians to improve our nation’s welcome for refugees and to acknowledge the skills and energy refugees bring to their new home.
Several students from the year 9 elective art class were invited to create art work depicting the theme ”Refugee” by the local branch of the Red Cross. The art work is currently part of an interagency display at Central Plaza (near the escalator) and given that the students had an extremely short time frame to complete the activity they have created some thought provoking and creative material. Congratulations & thankyou to Miss Frost and her year 9 class. The
art work will be on display for a month.
Earlier this month, the students from Year 11 Business Services completed their first of two work placements. These work placements take the form of a 35 hour working week at a local business under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. Cecilia Niko-Scanlan, Sarah Nunn, Michaella Sergi and Miracle Tietie spent their week at TAFE, David Davidge Solicitors, NRMA and Western Riverina Community College respectively.
Duties are chosen to align with syllabus topics and include communication (in person, by phone, fax and email), handling mail, operating a range of office equipment, security of records, safety and financial records. All students experienced a broad range of activities, completed their journals diligently and received encouraging feedback from their supervisors. Work placement allows for real-world demonstration of skills such as team work, initiative, enterprise, problem solving, communication, planning and organising. Often for the first time, students see a solid vision of future employment, both during and after school.
Indeed when I visited Cecilia at TAFE, I was greeted at the front desk by Katrina Barbaro from last year’s Year 12 class. Katrina’s work placement 18 months earlier was enough to get her the phone call that led to her current paid position with TAFE.

Science News On Monday and Tuesday (20-21st June), the MCC Science Department hosted a two day HSC Science teaching conference. Our guest speaker, Trish Stockbridge, came with a wealth of knowledge and experience in both writing and marking HSC exams, as well as having helped write the new Junior Science Syllabus. Science Teachers from all of the high schools in the Wagga Diocese and the local Griffith schools came along to share in the professional development opportunity. The information that Trish presented gave all of the teachers present, a great insight into the areas to focus on in HSC Science courses and how best to teach them. This experience was highly valued by all that attended. A big thank you to Christie Scoble for taking the idea of getting a guest speaker in and making it all happen. Fiona Harris
Year 12 Sharing our Story classes attended St
Patricks School to get a feel of how a Primary School operates. They will be using their experiences from not only St Patricks, but also Bupa, to create a Ministry Documentary.
