SPAIN If I had to include the Spanish legacy in a time capsule there would be 2

things that cannot be missed: on one hand the discovery of the American continent by Christopher Columbus and in the other hand the Spanish language, being the second spoken in the world with 420 million people having it as their mother tongue.

This 2 items are still alive nowadays, but Spain, through the years have left other legacies in all kind of fields.

SPORTSRafa Nadal is considered one of the best players in the tennis field. He has won 13 Grand Slam tournaments.

Pau Gasol plays in Los Angeles Lakers team in the NBA. It is the first Spanish basketball player to play an All-Star Game in the NBA.

Fernando Alonso has won twice the F1 World Championship being the only Spanish to win in this competition.

MUSICFlamenco is originally from Andalucía in the South of Spain. In 20120 UNESCO declared it one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. It is very popular in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panamá, El Salvador, Puerto Rico and in Japan where there are more flamenco academies than in all Spain.

Julio Iglesias, Alejandro Sanz, David Bisbal, Miguel Bosé and Enrique Iglesias are in the lists of musical hits from around the world, becoming some of the most International Spanish singers.

Macarena a song composed by El Rio that stunned the world with a simple and easy letter becoming the third best selling single in the world and the first in Spanish. Nowadays is still giving profit.

FASHION

David Delfín, Amaya Arzuaga, Balenciaga, Pedro del Hierro, Elio Berhanyer, Pertegaz, Francis Montesinos, Sybilla, Manuel Piña, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Adolfo Domínguez, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Ángel Schlesser, Lemoniez, Custo Dalmau, Felipe Varela, Roberto Verino, Manolo Blahnik, Victorio & Luchino, Paco Rabanne and a huge etcetera of Spanish designers that have shown there creations in catwalks all over the world.

Not to forget the International Spanish fashion brands such as Zara, Loewe, Camper or Mascaró.

Influenced in a first stage by the romans, Visigoths and Muslims. Later their own styles were integrated into the major European architectural trends such as Romanesque and Gothic. The style was influenced in the Spanish colonies (Mexico, Central America and the South American Pacific).

The modernism and Gaudí has been studied all over the world and in the 20th Century architects such as Santiago Calatrava and Ricardo Bofill are international models.

GASTRONOMYThe Spanish cuisine is strongly influenced throughout its history by the cultures that conquered its territory as well as the colonized territories.

Nowadays it is famous thanks to many chefs that hold 3 Stars from the prestigious Michelin Guide and preserves the Spanish taste in there art creations.

Besides from Ferran Adria and his restaurant “El Bulli”, it is also mandatory to mention Juan Maria Arzak, Santi Santamaria, Martin Berasategui, Carme Ruscalleda, Pedro Subijana, Joan Roca, Josep Roca and Jordi Roca (whose restaurant was considered in 2013 the best in the world)

Spain is a country very rich in culture, directly influenced by all the cultures that have been in Spain, becoming one of the best countries in the world to live in

terms of quality of life. Thanks to the Mediterranean diet we try to follow in all the aspects makes the Spanish women in the top 5 of the long-lived in the world.
