March’s President's Message:
What a great meeting we had in February. Carla O’Connor gave a fascinating demonstration
that we all wished could have lasted longer. Love her sense of humor and enthusiasm! She does
have a workshop coming up so I’m sure there will be a few more artists looking into that.
It was exciting to see so many visitors and new members. Since everyone is so busy these
days and we are all volunteers, it is important to get fresh ideas and perspectives to keep us rel-
evant and be a visible part of the community. It feels like things are swinging into full gear on
shows and the Summer Art Festival and for me all this sun and nice weather makes me feel like
I’m coming out of hibernation. I think maybe I am sounding like a broken record. We have a
wonderful group and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. Create away!
President.

The MAGIC of Watercolor Painting Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Painters
Plan and proceed with your own photos, or mine!
Mondays, 10 AM to 1 PM, $25 , South Hill Art Studio
We choose watercolor because of its transparency and luminosity. Yet, we can be challenged- and frustrated- in the
endeavor to get the results in our painting that we see in our mind’s eye.
· Learn the craft of transparency
· Learn what color mixtures fall short and look muddy
· Learn how to achieve the GLOW
· Find out what will DESTROY the glow
We will learn the concepts of watercolor paints and be able to select logical combinations for producing your
own paintings from your own photographs.

PAL Board Meeting February 19, 2015
President Kate Griswold called the meeting to order at 10:00.
Attendees: Cathie Johnson, Greg Trathen, Myrna Binion, Barb Ruble, Kate Griswold, Nancy Bartlett, Karen Wilsey,
Hilaire Radowick, Carlene Salazar, Robert Knapp
The regular times for the meetings of PAL are: 5:30–6 Social time, 6-6:45 Business meeting, 6:45-7 Break, 7-8 Demo.
The screening of artists is 4:30-5 with nothing accepted after 5. Next board meeting Mar 19. Next meeting Mar 24.
Treasurer’s Report: Bob Knapp presented a review of the financial status which is available for viewing. We have re-
ceived first check from ZAPP. A discussion was held regarding checks for jurors and awards since these checks need to
be given to Cathie prior to awarding at shows. Need to fill our expense report online by show date.
Posters: Artwork submitted by local schools and homeschoolers will be reviewed at the March Board meeting. A final
vote for the poster to be used on all advertising for the summer Art Festival will be held at the March PAL meeting.
Demos: Judy Buskirk was unable to attend meeting but requested again an individual to shadow her work in order to
learn how to line up demos. We need to let those doing a demo know they will be miked and comwebbed.
Members need to be reminded to pick up payment for art sold at the Kimball Gallery. These payments will not be
mailed.
Member Shows: A discussion was held regarding replacing the panels used for display. It was decided that two things
need to be researched: sell our present grids which are heavy and need repainting; research cost of new lighter weight
grids. Juror fees were discussed. A motion was passed to offer jurors $125 per show including travel. A discussion was
held involving reception at Key Bank during the festival. Should invitations be mailed and who should be invited? Is this
open to the public? It was determined that Cathie and Greg research catering to determine total cost of reception. The
purpose of the reception is to celebrate art. Kate volunteered to contact the mayor in a need for more outreach in the
community. Newest Kimball Gallery date if Mar 2.
Workshop: JoAnn sent word that only 3 have signed up the Ned’s workshop on April 29,30 and May 1.
Festival Show: Hilaire reported 117 entries for the festival. John and Eileen are working on jurors. Application deadline
for booth is Feb. 28, screening March 10. A reminder might be sent to all last year’s participants to increase numbers.
All checks should be written to PAL not the the Festival. There will be lanyards with nametags for festival volunteers.
Jennie is scheduled to take banner information to the printer and then to the city then the banner is done. Charlee will
check on this. Banner will be up from June 29 to July 13. A problem with the fencing was discussed. Do we want to ex-
pand authors section? There is a need for volunteer to head merchant contact team. Water donations and author space
donated by bank.
Kate requested we start looking for replacements for our positions on the board. Appreciation luncheon this year will be
after April board meeting.
The Christmas Party will be held Sat Dec 5 at the Nichols Center from 12-3.
What are some ways to increase awareness of PAL? Parade participation? An art center in downtown?
Assignment: Look at app forms before next meeting for comments and discussion on restating and rethinking app.
Meeting adjourned 12:00
