Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Gospel Reflections Matthew 17:1-9 Christian living is about being “touched” by Jesus so that the fleeting moments of glory are made permanent in bettering the lives of others. We don’t “build tents”; we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, touch the downhearted, visit the lonely, encourage the discouraged…bringing the tenderness of Christ to all persons who are destitute and forgotten. In this way Christ touches others through us.

To the men of Saint Pius X Parish: YOU are invited to form a new ministry within the parish. This is an opportunity for Catholic men of the parish to come together to support each other along our challenging faith journeys. Because men have a special responsibility to build the domestic church, this ministry will focus on supporting you in that crucial work through new fellowship, wor-ship, and service opportunities. Lent is the perfect time to kick off this ministry as we prepare for the promise of the resurrection. Look for further details regarding the initial meeting in next week’s bulletin. In the meantime, mark you calendar for a Lenten reflection sponsored by the Corpus Christi Parish Men’s Ministry in Portsmouth, who graciously volun-teered to partner with their Saint Pius X Parish brothers in faith for special shared activities and events such as this:

Fast & Abstinence • Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are
obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics.
• In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days
of abstinence. • Fasting is obligatory from age 18 until age 59.
• When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.
• Abstinence from meat is binding from age 14 onwards.
A Reflection on Lenten Fasting If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.
