The Right Way to Do a Resume• Varying opinions• Should mirror job description• Incorporate key words (most are action verbs)• Should be accomplishments based rather than a list of duties• Don’t say: Duties included...• Don’t say: Responsible for...• Instead use action verb phrases
• Quantify whenever possible
Content and Layout• Focus on content first• Always have a one page version• Multiple pages okay unless job description specifies “one page
only”• Consider your audience• Emphasize skills and experience• Graphics can be incorporated but keep it conservative• Feel free to be creative• If submitting in person, use resume paper• 10-12 font• .5 to 1.0 inch margins

Employer Tips• Education section: “Expected.......”• Objective: be specific; what do you have to offer • Languages: don’t hide them at the bottom• Grab their attention at the top of the page• If you have a multi-page resume, put important
information on page 1• Make it easy to read; imagine employer with hundreds of
resumes• Employers create stacks: yes, maybe, no

application with other submissions• In cover letter they are evaluating your writingddd• In cover letter you should be unique from other applicants
