WICHITA A’S MEETING MINUTES Minisa Park, February 26, 2018

Daylight savings time started on the 11th, that means more time to enjoy the Model A’s. I’m so excited for the upcom-ing Tour season as there are several fun events coming up in the next couple of months. If you haven’t been on a trip with the club before and wonder if these old cars can go more than 5 miles from home, consider going on the shake down trip. It’s a great way to see if your car is performing safely and get some advice from the very knowledgeable club ex-perts. I look forward to see you all on the road this spring.

Best Regards,

Randy Frazer, President

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

The Sunflower Charity Swap meet is behind us! Ready to start touring! Many fun tours are planned so get your cars ready! Note on the calendar of events that several tours have had some changes. The Club Picnic is being held at the home of the McLaughlin’s and a date has been set for the Women’s Christmas Luncheon. Put them on your calendar with more information later. Again I have copies of registration forms for the Springfield Regional Meet and the Marc National meet in Branson if you need them. A note to all who are sending me articles for the newsletter. If you could not send in a PDF file that would be great, it is hard to transfer to the publisher program. Thanks for all you do! Spring is here!!! Sheila Orr, Editor

President Randy Frazer called the February 26,2018 club meeting to order. Jim Broadhead moved and it was se-conded and passed to approve the January minutes as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer Jim Sharp updated the club on finances. It was suggested that the club could save money if members would receive their newsletters by electronic email rather than paper copy. Bonita Graham reported that Charlie Guinty and Brenda Broadhead’s mother, Dot Tuttle, had passed away. She also updated the club on Otto Praeger, Francis Grady, Dennis Schroder, and Grace and Bill Brooks. Historical Committee chairperson, Judi Sharp asked the club to check for and bring to her or her committee any histori-cal information that needs to be saved. Future tours were discussed: Shake Down Tour for March 24-Jim Broadhead, Arched Cellar Tour on April 7-8-Linda Kibbe, Scavenger Hunt on April 21-Gilbert Adams, Kansas White Way Highway Tour on May 5-6-Gary Hileman, and the Great Kansas Road Trip on –May 5-6-Mike James. Following refreshments provided by Brigitte Baggs, Brenda Broadhead, Mike James and Dawna Ruggles, Linda Kibbe presented a slide program on Our Year in Review. Announcements: the Club Picnic will be on May 21st at the McLaughlin estate this year and the club’s Christmas Party will be held at Minisa on our regular November meeting date. Next meeting will be on March 26. Meeting adjourned Dawna Ruggles, Secretary

WICHITA A’S BOARD MEETING FEBRUARY 19, 2018

HELP SAVE THE CLUB MONEY!!!!!

MINUTES OF THE “HISTORICAL COMMITTEE” MEETING

Your Board met on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Ruggles home. The following Items were handled. 1. Treasurer James Sharp has been given the duty to locate a different accountant for the club. 2. The board decided to increase memorial giving to $50.00. Memorials will be given to current members and spouses. 3. In order to keep club expenses down, member will be encouraged to get electronic newsletters instead of hard copy. 4. The Christmas party date has been changed from December 1 to November 26th ( regular club meeting date) and will be catered. Club members will be asked to purchase tickets for this celebration. More information will be coming out later about this.5. Jim and Brenda Broadhead are the latest recipients of MAFCA museum brick.6. The May picnic meeting will be held at the home of Steve and Jane McLaughlin. More information will be coming out later about this item.7. The Historical Committee of Judy Sharp, Tom Ruggles, and JoAnn Bruce reported to the Board their ideas. For the full official minutes of the Board meeting, see secretary Dawna Ruggles

“HELP SAVE THE CLUB MONEY- If you have email but still get our Newsletter mailed out to you, please consider requesting an electronic delivery instead. It costs the club about $30.00 per member to mail out the newsletter verses an electronic copy. Those costs really add up over time. Give it some thought and if you can, help us keep our club costs down.”

The Historical Committee met February 19, 2018 at 7PM at Tom and Dawna Ruggles home. Committee member JoAnn Bruce, Tom Ruggles and Judi Sharp were in attendance. We reviewed the historical documents that have been given to us. To date, everything we have is for the “Wichita Air Capitol A Birds Club”. We have the Charter, a notebook containing minutes , Bylaws and two scrapbooks. We talked about what to do with the historical items. An offer was made by Judi of a four drawer locking file cabinet that could be used for storage. Currently, it is located at their business but would be moved to their home if the club pre-ferred. It was suggested we put the club newsletters on a disk for storage. This would do away with keeping hard copies. We are currently trying to locate the “Wichita A’s” club charter. If anyone knows where it is, please let one of the com-mittee members know. We were also asked to put together job descriptions and duties for the directors of the club. It was suggested they could be read at the meeting when the new directors take over. They will also be included in the membership roster going for-ward. If anyone has any documents they would like the committee to review, please let one f the committee members know Submitted by: Judi Sharp

Tune up your electrical knowledge at the Wichita A’s, Model A meeting on Monday, March 26, 2018. Our program that evening will feature Jim Broadhead, and an explanation of the electrical system. Jim is a retired Air Force electrical technician with many years of hands on experience dealing with electrical systems. Jim will be providing an overview of the Model A system along with troubleshooting techniques and how to insure you get maximum electrical energy from your system. Jim will be using a Model A sys-tem mock-up board (on loan to us from Poco Quatros Model A club) to demonstrate basic system functions.

Planning is under way for the Wichita A’s to participate in the Big Kansas Road Trip. The Big Kansas Road Trip is a festival that annually will encourage Kan-san's to travel the first full weekend in May to a certain region of the state. This is the first year of the festival which is an outgrowth of The Kansas Sampler Festi-val (which is now history). The 2018 festival will highlight Barber, Kiowa and Comanche counties. The idea of the Big Kansas Road Trip is to get people onto back roads and have people discover the unique, unusual and historical spots in Kansas—perfect for the Wichita A’s. We will be traveling west through the Gyp Hills with stops scheduled in Harper, Wilmore, Greensburg, Mullinville and more. WHEN: Saturday/Sunday, May 5 & 6, 2018 Trip Leads: Kathy & Mike James Sign Up: Will begin at the March 26, 2018 meeting Cost: to be determined. Planning is still on going
