We have weathered the winter fairly quickly and look forward to our opening of the Clubhouse and Restaurant quite soon. Our winter shutdown has been a busy freshen-ing of the Clubhouse and kitchen facilities and we look forward to an early Spring. On Wednesday the 15th, we will resume our winter Wednesday thru Saturday sched-

ule of Lunch and Dinner and plan on adding Sundays to the schedule right after Easter Sunday. St. Patrick’s Day happens to fall on Friday the 17th, so we will have a big Happy Hour planned with some great Irish Dinner Specials. On Wednesday the 22nd, we’ll have Family Night featuring Burgers, Fries and Shake Specials for all. Bring the kids and the grandparents for a fun night back, welcoming in Spring! Trivia Night commences on Thursday the 30th for our last winter showdown and we’ll have some great prizes for the winning team (of 6 or less :) With 2 for 1 night, it’s double the fun! And finally, on Saturday the 25th, we’ll have It’s Your Birthday Night as well as feature Prime Rib for all the March Birthdays. Make plans early and maybe get in 9 holes beforehand? As Chris says in his article, mother nature will dictate our Course and Locker Room opening schedule. We are ready - and here’s to hoping! Look forward to seeing you all soon, Bob

From the Desk of the Superintendent

Opening the golf course is always a hot issue this time of year. We certainly have had some very favorable weather patterns to dry the course out. That is a very good scenario. All we need now is some more warm weather with evenings above freezing and we can start to prep to open. Opening the course for walking requires us to get the greens firm enough to accept foot traffic. Excessive foot traffic on soft green surfaces will lead to foot printing. Spring time foot prints usually have to be corrected through aeration. So we require the greens to be mowed and rolled until the desired firmness is achieved to avoid an aeration event. Preparing the course for carts requires that we mow the fairways. Some of them, like 16 and 17, need to be mowed twice. These are typically softer fairways. The mowing will compact the turf and allow for it to accept cart traffic. We have released carts in the past without mowing the fairways. The tire tracks that the carts produced we visible until Memorial Day. Holding off on carts until the fairways have been mowed adequately will make them more playable with less cart damage. We are typically one of the first clubs to open in this area. Assuming the weather is kind to us, we could see another early opening. As soon as we know, we will send out an email blast. Hope you enjoyed your winter.
