Pastor Jerry - “See The Vison”

At our Disciple Shift conference with Brandon Guindon I heard several people say that they were surprised by how much discipleship they are already doing. They just had not thought of what they are doing as discipleship. The phone rings and someone on the other end of the line is having a problem and they want your advice and you share with them what God’s Word says. A guy at work is struggling and you offer Him so encouraging words from God’s Word. People who follow Jesus naturally speak for Him. I also heard some of the same folks say that they knew they needed to be more intentional about it. Don’t you agree? The greatest challenge in discipleship is being intentional about it. What does it mean to be intentional about discipleship? Think about what it looked like to Jesus. Jesus intentionally chose men to be with Him. They formed a small group. Jesus spent time with the group but He also spent personal time with different members of the group. Jesus then intentionally sent those disciples out to disciple others. I also heard several people say that one of the road blocks that kept them from participating more in discipleship was they thought that they did not know enough to lead others. We were challenged to think about the disciples of Jesus. They were uneducated men. They relied more on the Holy Spirit and the stories that Jesus told them than they did any formal education. They shared the stories and the Holy Spirit did the work. They changed the world! My prayer for our church is that we will clearly see the vison and mission of discipleship that Jesus has called us to embrace and that we will intentional about it with specific people that we meet with on a regular basis. May we depend upon the Holy Spirit and the stories that are in the bible to impart the gospel and God’s Word to those people. May we send them out to disciple others as they depend on the Holy Spirit. We will change the world!

It is a joy to serve you!

Jesus Continued

In John 16:7, Jesus told His disciples that it was to their advantage that He go away, and He explained to them why the Holy Spirit inside them would be better than Him beside them. What was true for them is true for us. Come and join us in our

worship services on

Sunday mornings at 9:55am

through the month of February

as we continue to discover why

the Holy Spirit inside us is

better than Jesus beside us!

Paul McKeithan We had some projects that were started in the fall of 2014 that have not been completed for various reasons. However, one project was completed this month; we have new vanities and sinks in the restrooms in Building ‘B’. Several of the projects we have purchased the materials, but did not complete as these were outside projects. Several of the inside projects are work in progress, and others we need workers. Newer projects are on hold until we have the money to complete them. A work day will be scheduled near the first of April.

If you see something in our facilities that needs repaired, contact one of your deacons.

Dads!! Schedule a work time (a couple of hours or all day) with one of your children. We need someone to see what receptacles and switches are controlled by what breaker and record this information. I have some work sheets that would help you do this.

This is just a reminder; if you know of someone in our body that has a need, please contact their Mission Team Leader. If you don’t know who their team leader is, contact the church office and they will give you that information.

I pray for a special blessing on those that give to the benevolent needs of our community.

If you meet the scriptural qualifications of a deacon, begin to pray if this is how you need to be serving. The current deacons are Greg Werner, Cecil Werner, Shiloh

Dellinger, Jon Werner and Paul McKeithan. Paul Mac

From Stephen Ketola... The Board of Trustees meets monthly to discuss the business of the church. All members of the church are welcome to attend these meetings. Brandon Werner - “DiscipleSHIFT”

I hope you were able to hear Brandon Guindon and his team share either at the DiscipleSHIFT Retreat or on Sunday morning. If you missed the message, I want to encourage you to access our sermon achieves at www.westernhillschurch.com and listen to it.

As we make the DiscipleSHIFT, I want to encourage you to pray and ask God what he would have you do to get out of the stands and into the game. Church is a team sport, making disciples is our objective, and Jesus’ example is our game plan. God is calling you to get into the game (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, John 15:16, 2 Timothy 2:2, Matthew 4:19, Luke 5:11, Acts 2:42, etc., etc., etc.).

One thing that really stuck with me from the retreat is the simple observation that, when making disciples, there is my part, their part, and God’s part. When we work to make disciples we realize that God will always do His part. He is faithful to work wonders through those who will obey Him (read the story in Luke 5:1-11). We must also realize that we can never do someone else’s part to help them grow as disciples. All we can do is our part. Are you being faithful to do your part?

If God is calling you out of the stands than share that calling with your discipleship leader, small group leader, or with one of our staff members. We will help you take the next step to do your part in making disciples.

In Christ,

Pastor Brandon

Britt Clay - “College & Career”

Over the past few weeks we have made some adjustments to Thrive (College and Career) that I believe will help in our success as we try to connect college students with the church. We now meet on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Our current meeting location is at the church in the parlor. We plan to meet here until the Lord provides a home for Lauren and I. We feel that moving the meeting to Thursday evenings will help in the number of people able to attend. The visions and goal for Thrive is that College students, as well as single men and women in their mid to upper twenties, have a place to: connect with people their age and in their walk of life, have a safe and more neutral ground to invite friends they are reaching. We are also planning a fellowship once a month to help accomplish these same goals. Our desire is to see people in this age group who are not currently plugged into church or discipleship relationships to have an opportunity to do so. Thrive is an event that is at the top of "the funnel" and to push these men and women further unto the funnel we make it our goal to get them into intentional relationships and involved in a small group where those relationships can grow and they will be challenged. Please continue to pray for and with us that the Lord will give Lauren and I clear direction on how to lead these men and women. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve them and you. 1 Thessalonians 2:8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.

Jack Clay - “It’s All About Relationship”

I hope you have had a great month doing the Love Dares on your spouse. That is always a fun time with the purpose of developing relationship with your spouse and enjoying them. Let me encourage you to continue in the development of your relationship together. And here’s the reason why: God is the God of relationship.

Our God, created us for a personal, intimate relationship with Him. After He had created man, He saw that it was not good that a man should dwell alone, so, He made a help-meet for him. Man and woman were to cleave together and become as one flesh. God saw our need for a personal relationship with other people. He instituted the home as that first avenue for personal relationships to develop. A man and his wife were created to live in harmony with the Lord and with each other. Their relationship together would be a springboard for their relationships with others.

In our society today there is a great attack upon the marital relationship. It is viewed as unnecessary, something that can be done away with if things don’t work out. God designed for marriage to be between one man and one woman for a lifetime. Unfortunately, the attitude of the world concerning marriage has crept into the church. Let us commit by God’s grace to uphold and preserve that relationship with our spouse that is sacred and designed to be for a lifetime. As we do this, we will discover the true joy of being in relationship with the one God designed for us to spend our lives.

In Christ,

-Bro. Jack
