Dear Church Family:

Jesus promised 12 men if they followed Him He would make them fishers of men. (Matthew 4:19). Isn’t this a rather strange way to recruit followers? Who wants to fish for men? Normally if you are recruiting someone you appeal to their conscience or to their worldly desires. Who wants to fish for men?

Jesus must have known that those 12 men were not satisfied with just making a living and having a family. He must have known that in each one of their hearts there was a passion to make an eternal difference in their world. He offered them that opportunity.

If Christ is in you, that passion is within you. It is a part of your new spiritual DNA as a new creation in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:17).

So how do you become a fisher of men? Jesus ascended into heaven. Who is going to coach you?

Jesus gave the church His Spirit so we can have personal communion with Him. But the apostle Paul made it clear that the Spirit uses gifted members of the body of Christ to equip us to do various acts of service. (Eph. 4:11). Hebrews 13:7 also says that the Spirit has given the church shepherds to lead the church and that we should follow them. (Hebrews 13:7). The truth is we can learn to fish for men from any member of the body of Christ who has learned to fish for men.

What do we need to do to get the coaching we need? The best coaching method Jesus used was personal relational discipleship. He knew that He would never be successful coaching men to be fishers of men by just gathering with the multitudes. So He chose 12 men to share life with Him; to observe Him; to ask Him questions; to receive His accountability and encouragement.

Like those men, if you want to become a fisher of men you need to be personally discipled by someone who is a fisher of men. At Western Hills this is the ultimate goal of our small groups.

It is a joy to serve with you! Pastor Jerry

Current Sermon Series…

Winning!

Jesus said that His Church would win!

Our current sermon series is entitled

Winning: Stories of Victory. We are going

to study the Word of God and learn what

we need to believe and what we need to

do to win as followers of Christ.

We are going to learn how to win

emotionally over feelings of

disappointment, failure, fear, anger,

rejection, loneliness, anxiety, and grief.

We are going to learn how to win in our

finances, our marriage, and our mission

as disciples of Jesus.

We hope you will join us each

Sunday and join one of our groups as we

use stories to discover what God’s Word

says about Winning!

Sermon audio is available online at west-

This month we were able to help our families with needs around their homes, some due to storm damage and others due to normal maintenance. We continue to look for ways that we can serve our church families.

On May 29, 2015 the Santa Fe South elementary classes will be moving out of our buildings as they consolidate the elementary classes into one building. SFS will be moving another age group into our facilities. We’ll have more details next month.

The deacons are in the process of evaluating our Employee Handbook and the Policies and Procedures Manual so that our church will have the protection of the First Amendment. Just as we needed to amend our Constitution and By-Laws, we need to bring all of our written documents under the protection of the First Amendment and make sure that we are not contradicting ourselves within the documents. Please be praying that we will be diligent and thorough in our revision of these guidelines for our church.

For your Deacons, Paul Mac

From Stephen Ke-tola... The Board of Trustees meets monthly to discuss the business of the church. All members of the church are welcome to attend these meetings. The dates for the remainder of 2015 are below. Each meeting is currently scheduled to begin at 4:00pm in Pastor Jerry's office. June 17 July 15 August 12 September 16 October 14 November 11 December 9

Brandon Werner

Dear Church Family,

Beginning Saturday, May 30th, Rachael and I will have the honor of taking over the responsibility for the small group ministry at Western Hills Church. We will continue to lead the student ministry as well. This will be a big change for our family, but we agree with the elders and believe this is God’s direction for our church and our family at this time.

Please be in prayer for us as we seek the Lord’s leadership for our small groups. If our church is going to grow, it is going to happen as we work together to make disciples and add people to our church through building personal relationships. Small group is the main vehicle we use to accomplish this goal.

Here is how you can support us through this transition:

Pray. Please pray for Rachael and I, our small group leadership team, and our small group members as we work to be the fishers of men God has called us to be.

Join. If you are not already in a group, join a group! We are looking forward to some exciting things God is planning to do. To be involved you will need to be connected through your own small group!

Serve. Because we will continue to lead in the student ministry as well as oversee the children’s ministry, we will be looking for a dults who can partner with us in the kingdom work that happens every week through these ministries. Please prayerfully consider joining the children’s ministry and/or student ministry – especially on Wednesday nights. Contact me if you would like to serve in this way.

More announcements about this transition will be made in the near future. The first will be Saturday, May 30th at the Mission Team Leadership cookout where our trustees, elders, pastors, and Mission Team Leaders will take time to pray over my family. An announcement will also be made at church on Sunday, May 31st.

Pastor Brandon

UPDATE: New Small Group’s Pastor

On Saturday, May 30th, the elders and trustees laid hands on Brandon and Rachael Werner and commissioned Brandon as our new small groups pastor. We are looking forward to the future and what God wants to do as we work together to make disciples for Jesus!

Jack Clay - Winning and the Family America is truly blessed by God and is still the greatest nation on earth. But are we winning when it comes to the

family? I am afraid we are not. The family in America is under attack. Husbands and wives live in estranged

relationships. The very definition of family and marriage is under attack from those who have rejected the design

of God for marriage and the family. Children, actually scorned by our society as a nuisance, live in open rebellion

and defiance to their parents.

Are we winning? NO! Can we win? ABSOLUTELY! As husbands and fathers, let us return to loving the Lord with

all our hearts, loving and living by His Word, loving our wives as Christ loved the church, sacrificially and

unconditionally, putting off selfishness and unfaithfulness to our spouse. Let us lead our children with the

example of godly manhood to fulfill the design which God has given in His Word concerning the role of each

person in the home and the church. As women, let us return to the Biblical model of a wife, who with a meek and quiet spirit, submits to the design

of God to be submissive to her husband, trusting that God is in control and will lead her husband in the right path. Let us learn to be productive in the

care of our families, not gossips, not contentious, not busybodies. Let us model contentment in the design and provision of God. And as children, let

us understand that the most important thing we can do is to learn to obey our parents and hold them in the highest respect. In so doing, we will learn

how to obey God and fear Him, which is the beginning of wisdom. Doesn’t sound like the plan of the world, does it? But it is the plan of God; and, as

we follow God’s plan, we will win!

Overcoming Through Christ
