The Insider
SafeTree has joined Greenspace, The Nature
Conservancy, and the Covells again in funding the Fifth
Annual Cambria Walk in the Woods. The walk, as in
the past, will take place on Ralph and Tracy Covell’s
Cambria by the Pines Sea Ranch
(formerly the Cambria Coast
Ranch).
As you may remember,
Greenspace was honored by TNC
at the Cambria Coast Ranch dedi-
cation in the fall of 2000 for assist-
ing in the easement acquisition.
Since TNC’s historic purchase of a
1,500-acre conservation easement,
we have worked closely with the
conservation easement holder and
the Covells to develop a method that
provides public access to the property while protecting
the ranching operation. Many Cambrians and visitors to our area have
never had the opportunity to walk on this precious prop-
erty. Thanks to SafeTree, The Nature Conservancy, the
Covells, and Greenspace, we have the opportunity to
visit this wonderful property again this spring.
The number of tours on the ranch is limited to
four weekends during the year. The spring walk has
been the favorite and we will be offering 8 tours of 20
people. We expect the wildflower display to be excep-
tional this year and we nearly always discover new plants
and forest issues to talk about. In addition to the know
edge that Richard Hawley and Brad Seek share with th
hikers on the tours, Greenspace has arranged for add
tional experts to speak on a number of the tours. Th
guest speakers will hav
knowledge in forest genetic
botany, and forest patholog
Greenspace is very fortunate have developed partnership
with state and international e
perts on Monterey pines an
look forward to sharing th
good fortune with local res
dents and with visitors to o
community.
Check the back of this Insid
for the tour dates. Space is lim
ited to 20 people per walk. The Cambria Walk in the Woo
is a very popular event so RSVP early to ensure a spot.Having a sturdy pair of walking shoes, a wat
bottle, hat, and sunscreen is strongly suggested. I
addition, wearing light colored, layered clothing is co
sidered the prudent attire for the event.
