LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Thanks to those who took part in the second Fishing with Mom and Dad on Saturday. There were many, many who signed up which was good to see. The Community Life Commission works during the year to create opportunities for parishioners to get together to build community. Ideally, we would be looking for one person or family who might like to coordinate just this one event for next year. Would you be interested, and if so would you talk with me about it? Over the next three Sundays, we will move to using the readings from the Cycle A series of the Gospel of St. John, The Woman at the Well, the Man Born Blind, and the Raising of Lazarus, which are designed to give the baptized and unbaptized a gradual uncovering of images of sin: unchecked longings or thirsts, darkness and blindness, and death. Within the stories these Gospels also celebrate the power of the risen Christ over our human thirst as living water, over darkness and blindness as the Light of the World, and over death as the Resurrection and the life. These next three Sunday’s signal to us the urgency of the Lenten season, and our own call to conversion to Christ over and over again. If you are reading this on Saturday evening, don’t forget clocks spring forward tonight. We lose an hour of sleep somewhere in the nighttime…… ☺ This coming Tuesday evening, our parish will Present Strong Catholic Families - an approach to helping parents and grandparents in the raising in faith of their children and grandchildren. I very much believe that there is wisdom which the Church has about catechizing in faith which will be shared on this evening. I encourage parents and grandparents to attend. This presentation will be repeated later in the Spring. Next Saturday, is the annual Lenten Parish Retreat Back to the Garden: Cultivating Holiness in the City. The day will give you a chance to stop and rest with the Lord, while you reflect on your life journey and the invitation to grow in holiness and intimacy with the Lord. Give yourself this gift. Now, Holy Week is coming fast. I urge you and your loved ones to be a part of Holy Week at St. Jean Vianney. Remember that how we keep Holy Week in

Church is helped by how we keep Holy Week at home. These special days are important reflections of our Christian life and faith. Be a part of it here. Have a good week ahead. Love,

Awakening Faith/Catholics Come Home

If someone you care about is interested in returning to the Catholic faith, let them know there is nothing

to fear, and that there is a community and fellowship waiting to welcome them home. The LORD

promised that HE will always love and remember them. It only takes an open heart, prayer, and some

encouragement to take that first step back home.

PLEASE PRAY FOR UNBAPTIZED ELECT AND OUR BAPTIZED CANDIDATES

During this Lenten season, we ask your prayers for the unbaptized Elect and the baptized Candidates who are enrolled in the RCIA process of our parish. These individuals have been involved in this process for several months and are now entering into an intense period of reflection and prayer. In the entrance of our church you will see a display with the names and photographs of the Elect and Candidates who are requesting Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist through the RCIA process. When you see these adults and children at Mass, please introduce yourself and let them know that you are praying for them. Through your prayers and words of encouragement, those who seek to know Him in the Catholic faith, will feel the genuine love and support of the commu-nity of St. Jean Vianney.

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL

NUMBER 9 In 1984 Dr. Greer was a young resident in a Miami Hospital. The police brought in a homeless man with such advanced tuberculosis that he was unable to speak. He was identified only by the “Number 9” at the end of his bed. There were no relatives or friends to comfort the man, who soon died alone. Patient Number 9 left his mark on Dr. Pedro José Greer, who realized that every patient has a story and a soul. Soon afterward, Dr. Greer opened Ca-millus Health Concern in Miami, which now serves ten thousand homeless people annually. Greer’s Saint John Bosco Clinic treats six thousand immigrants every year in a sympathetic setting. For Greer, diagnosis and treatment must be matched with compassion. He has won three presidential awards, two papal awards, and the MacArthur Foundation Genius Fellowship, yet his mission remains the same. Patient Number 9 is never forgotten. Everyone has a name. Everyone is treated with care and kindness. Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
