Thank you for your participation in the ninth International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, to be held in the city of Valencia from July 15th to July 19th 2019.

This brochure includes information about the conference, the venue and restaurants nearby, as well as general information of interest and public transportation within the city.

If you need help, make sure to ask the crew of ICIAM 2019 volunteers, easily identified by their orange vest. They will always be ready to provide the advice you require. Find them at the registration desk, in designated meeting points and all around the venue.

ARRIVAL AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

VALENCIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Located eight kilometers to the west of the city, Valencia Airport offers a wide variety of facilities, including tourist information, assistance with luggage, coffee bar, car rentals and metro/bus/taxi service to Valencia.

On Sunday, July 14th, and Monday, July 15th, there will be an ICIAM 2019 Welcome Desk at the tourist information desk of the Arrivals Hall at the Valencia Airport.

Airport Welcome Desk Opening times: Sunday, July 14th: from 09:30 to 17:20 hrs. Monday,July 15th: from 08:30 to 17:30 hrs.

AIRPORT-CITY CENTER CONNECTION By metro: Fare: 3,90€. Approximate journey time: 20 minutes.Line 5 (Aeroport-Marítim Serrería, marked in green in the underground map in page 6) runs directly from the airport to the city center and the port of Valencia.Line 3 (Aeroport- Rafelbunyol, marked in red in the in the underground map in page 6), runs between the airport and the city center, connecting also with the university area and the north zone of the metropolitan area.

By bus: Fare: 1.45€. Approximate journey time: 40 minutes.City bus route 150, called Metrobus, runs between the airport and Valencia city center, with intermediate stops at Mislata, Quart de Poblet and Manises.

By taxi: The journey from the airport to the city center costs about 20€. By car: The V-11 road connects the Airport to the V-30 (bypass around the city of Valencia) via the A-3 motorway (Madrid-Valencia).

TRAIN STATIONS

There are two train stations in the city. The Joaquín Sorolla high-speed and long-distance Train Station connects Valencia with other large cities in Spain, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Málaga. The Estació del Nord is the mid- and short- distance train station. A free shuttle bus connects both train stations.

More information about train transportation can be found at the RENFE website www.renfe.com.

On Sunday 14th July and Monday 15th July there will be an ICIAM 2019 Welcome Desk at the tourist information desk of the Joaquin Sorolla train station. Look for the ICIAM 2019 banner if you need some help!

ARRIVAL AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

BUS STATION

Every day many buses run to/from Valencia from/to other large Spanish cities (like Madrid or Barcelona). The bus station is located in the north of the city, so you will need public transportation (bus/metro) or a taxi to get to the city center. The map below shows the different locations mentioned in this section and the reference landmarks of ICIAM 2019.

MOVING AROUND VALENCIA

Valencia has a public transportation system that includes Metro, Bus and Tram lines, connecting all areas of the city (including Valencia Airport). A good option for tourists is the Valencia Tourist Card, which combines a travel pass offering urban public transport (airport included) and discounts for museums, activities, shops and restaurants. Other options to move around the city are the multiple biking options, taxis and Cabify.

The EMT (Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Valencia), official local transport of ICIAM 2019 congress, offers to ICIAM 2019 attendees a special discount on the EMT card named Bonobús (10 one-way bus trips with unlimited transfers during 60 min.)

For attendees, the cost of this card will be 5€ (instead of 8,50 + 2€ for the card). You can purchase this EMT card ONLY on site and by CASH Payment, at the EMT point (next to the Registration desk).

App: EMTValencia

All the information you need to travel in the city of Valencia by Sustainable Transport (Bus, Metro, Tram, Valenbisi bike sharing, own bike or walking).

With this app you will be able to: Know when your bus will arrive. Calculate a route to go to any address or point of interest using one or a mix of some sustainable means of transport. Find stops and selling points near your location, with your GPS. Save your favorite stops, card numbers and places to facilitate their later uses.

All of these in the language you prefer: Spanish, Valencian or English. Metro: There are 9 lines - Plan your trip in advance here.

Biking in Valencia: Maybe one of the best options to see Valencia is hiring a bike. Valenbisi offers to citizens and visitors more than 2.700 bicycles distributed in 275 stations in different parts of the city (subscription is required). There are other companies offering bike rental services.

ICIAM 2019INFORMATION

INVITED LECTURES: ME building (Aula Magna), FT building (Saló d’Actes Manuel Sanchis Guarner), and the (air conditioned) Marquee MA will host the 27 Invited Lectures.

ICIAM PRIZE LECTURES AND SPECIAL LECTURES: The 5 ICIAM Prize lectures and the SIAM special lectures will take place at the FT building (Saló d’Actes Manuel Sanchis Guarner).

PARALLEL SESSIONS: They will be held in the buildings of the Campus de Blasco Ibáñez marked as ME, PS, A1, A3, A6, GH, FE and FT in the map.

EXHIBITION AREAS: There will be two exhibition areas: one located at the PS building, for Academic and Commercial booths, and another one at the FE building, for Publishers.

POSTER SESSIONS: Posters will be displayed at the FE building (first floor).

INDUSTRY DAY: It will take place at the Aula Magna of the FE building (first floor).

STREAMING:For the Plenary Sessions, a link will be available to follow the session by streaming. More information will be published in the official congress web page.

BADGES & ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATES

As a Congress participant, you will be identifiable by your name badge.

Name badges will be provided to all delegates and participants when they check in at the Registration/Help Desk. The badge is your admission pass to all conference sessions, the exhibit hall and social events. Delegates are required to wear their name badge at all times and will not be granted access to the Conference without it. This is to ensure that access to the Conference is properly managed.

In case of loss, please request a new name badge at the registration desk.

Attendance Certificates will be issued by the Technical Secretariat and will be sent by e-mail after the conference.

GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTATIONS

SPEAKERS’ PREVIEW ROOM

The conference will have a speakers’ preview room in the FE building – SALA DE CRISTAL on the main floor – where speakers must upload the file onto the system, so that it can be ready for their session. Testing presentations beforehand is also possible.

Speakers are invited to upload their presentation between 24 and 3 hours prior to the beginning of their session. Please respect this time schedule to avoid queues in the Speakers’ Room. Please note that personal laptops cannot be used for presentations and that no direct uploading at presentation time will be allowed. This rule is enforced in order to ensure that the schedule is maintained tightly. Please, excuse any inconveniences this may cause and make sure to ask our technicians if necessary.

All rooms will be equipped with projector, screen and PC computer. Pdf, ppt, pptx formats will be accepted, no more than 50MB per file.

If the presentation includes audio (sound or voice), animation or short movie file(s), speakers are advised to save each file separately and provide it to the technical staff for testing, together with your presentation file. Please use 4:3 Projection in case of ppt, pptx format presentations.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

The POSTER SESSIONS will run during the coffee breaks, both morning and afternoon.

Presenting authors are expected to be in front of their posters during the assigned poster session time. Please, check the final scientific program to identify the day of your poster presentation.

The presentation number assigned to your poster should not be placed on your poster. The poster boards will be numbered for you.

Poster presenting authors are responsible for setting-up and taking down their poster. Self-adhesive pads for posting will be offered by the organization. In case that you have printed your poster using the “online poster print service”, you will be able to collect your poster in the poster area.

Posters which haven’t been removed after the corresponding session has finished, shall be detached and discarded. Unclaimed posters are not the responsibility of the conference organizers and will be discarded.

PROGRAMME CHANGESThe organisers cannot assume liability for any changes in the programme due to external or unforeseen circumstances.

Changes that may occur during the congress will be notified through the ICIAM 2019 APP and advertised at the appropriate rooms.

LIBRARY & NETWORKING AREAThe PS and FE buildings host a Library where attendees can charge their devices and work.

Furthermore, in the PS building there are small rooms for networking meetings: check availability at the reception of the Library.

There will also be computer rooms to connect to internet and work using local devices. Ask for their location at the information desk or check the information on the website.

BEST INDUSTRY-RELATED POSTER AWARDS

ICIAM 2019 will grant two awards ($512 and $307 approx.) to the two best industry-related posters presented at the conference.

These awards, sponsored by Mathematics (ISSN 2227-7390), an MDPI Open Access Journal, are part of the Industry Day, a mathematical technology transfer-oriented activity that will take place on Wednesday July 17th, within ICIAM 2019. All posters with the PB- Poster Code are automatically eligible for the prizes.

A panel of judges will choose the winners. The prizes will be announced and awarded to the authors at the closing session of the Industry Day on Wednesday July 17th, 2019 at the Aula Magna of the FE building.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE & INSURANCE

Participants are advised to make their own arrangements regarding travel insurance and medical assistance during the Conference. Neither the Organization nor the Secretariat are able to accept any responsibility whatsoever for damage or injury to persons or their belongings during the Conference. During all ICIAM 2019 activities, there will be medical assistance available for emergencies. In case of need, ask our volunteers to contact them.

LOST PROPERTY

Please report any lost or unattended items immediately to the Conference staff. Should you lose anything while at the venues, please inquire at the Conference Registration/Help Desk, where any lost property will be held.

PHOTOGRAPHER

There will be an official photographer during the conference. By registering for the ICIAM 2019, you agree to appear on some of the pictures published on line on the web page of the conference.

COFFEE BREAKS & LUNCH

Coffee & tea breaks scheduled on the program will be served at the ME, PS, FE, FT Buildings simultaneously.Please note that lunch is not provided by the organization. Assistants are encouraged to visit any of the many local bars and restaurants at and near the Campus.

UNIVERSITY CAFETERIAS

University cafeterias serving menus, with prices ranging between 5 and 8€, and sandwiches will be available at ME, PS, FT and GH buildings.

BAR & RESTAURANTS AROUND THE CAMPUS:

There are more than three thousand restaurants in Valencia that you can explore during the conference. For your convenience we provide a list of some places that are located within walking distance of the conference site.

It is strongly recommended to book in advance. It will assure your meal and will help the restaurants to give you a better service.

Food trucks will be located in the courtyards of the FE building and the PS-A1/A3 buildings.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW…

WEATHER IN VALENCIAValencia and its metropolitan area has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The city enjoys year-round sunshine with an average annual temperature of 20ºC (68ºF). July and August are the warmest months, with average temperatures around 32°C (86°F) during the day and 24–25°C (74–76°F) at night.

VALENCIA’S LOCAL LANGUAGEThere are two official languages in Valencia: Valencian and Spanish. Most street signs and directions are written in Valencian.

You may find some people that are not fluent in English. In any case, hotel staff, waiters at restaurants and most people working in touristic areas will be able to communicate with you in English.

INTERNATIONAL TIME ZONEThe time in Valencia is CET (Central European Time) which is GMT + 2 hours.

CURRENCYSpain's currency is the euro (exchange rate is approximately and 1€ = $1.1).

ELECTRICITYStandard electrical voltage in Valencia is 220-240 V AC, 50 Hz. Most electric sockets are CEE 7/3 (type F \Schuko") or CEE 7/16 (Type C \Europlug"). A transformer and/or adapter might be necessary. Adapters are available in most hardware stores, and some hotels lend them to their clients.

TAXISValencia has several taxi companies and finding one is quite easy. Valencia taxis are white cars with a green light on the roof when they are free; or a red light when they are occupied.To hail one, simply make a gesture with you hand. For long distances, you must make a reservation in one of the local companies by calling their number.

Valencia taxi prices have different minimums depending on the time. The minimum day fare for taxis run at 4€ while the minimum night fare is 6€.

SMOKING POLICYSmoking is prohibited in public buildings and public transport (including taxis), at workplaces, railway stations, discotheques, bars and restaurants. Tobacco consumption is also not allowed outside the grounds of hospitals, health centers, schools and kindergartens.

Smoking is permitted on terraces (e.g. restaurants), in one’s own home and balcony and in the fresh air with the exceptions explained above.

TIPPINGService is usually included in the bill in bars and restaurants but tips are welcome. If you consider the service good enough to warrant a tip, suggested level is around 10%.

TAXESValue-Added Tax is called IVA (for Impuesto sobre el valor añadido) in Spain. It is levied on services, such as hotels and restaurants, and on consumer products.

The IVA rate for hotels and restaurants is 10%. Menus will generally say at the bottom whether tax is included (IVA incluido) or not. While food and basic necessities are taxed at the lowest rate, most consumer goods are taxed at 21%.
