  • MY QUARANTINE EXPERIENCE

Hi, My name is Noor Issa from the second graduating class of Manara. Iwas brought here today to write about my experience during thisquarantine. Let’s start with the positive aspects of it: I got to spend moretime with my parents and of course my cat. The way my family usuallyspends time together would be us watching shows together. You may bethinking won’t you get sick of being around you’re family all the time? Well,of course, you would, that’s why I tried to get as much alone time as Icould. I learned that online learning is hard, but all you have to do is tryand apply yourself. I remember being homeschooled with this programcalled “k12”. We would do virtual classrooms and do the work on our own.We weren’t close with our teachers and as I recall it wouldn’t be easy toget a hold of them. That’s when I declared I couldn’t teach myself. Somemore of the positive aspects would be how I tried some new things. I triedmaking banana bread, which didn’t come out well but it did make me feel Iaccomplished something. I also decided I wanted to get a job( because thatwas the only illegal reason I could be outside the house). I know it’s hardbut it gets better and soon everything will be back to some kind of normal.

    MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH:

EATING HEALTHY FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

How to eat healthy for your mental health:1) Eat a balanced diet. Consume healthy proteins (lean chicken, turkey, beef, tofu), fats (nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocados), and carbohydrates (rice, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, lentils). Consume avariety of fruits and vegetables.2) Cook more of your own meals. This helps you control the differentingredients that go into the food that you eat.3) Try to make healthy changes whenever possible. Consider replacingsoda and juices (filled with sugar) for water. Try consuming foods thatare prepared healthier more often (grilled/baked vs. fried).4) Read Food Labels. Take control of the foods you eat by knowingexactly what goes into them.5) Drink plenty of water every day. Staying hydrated keeps our mindsand bodies running smoothly. Dehydration can cause headaches, dizziness, low energy, and make you think that you are hungry.
