Students are consistently receiving the short end of the straw. Courses are being scrapped, staff made redundant, and tuition fees are set to rise, while EMA, DSA, and bursaries are now history. The government's Green Paper is about to change the face of Higher Education. At the sharp end of the rereform of higher education in the UK, critical student voices and the very existence of Students' Unions are under threat. With government austerity plans mounting pressure on us, we are struggling to stay in education.

Our movement needs to respond. We are 7 million students strong, withresources, UK-wide networks, and a long history of campaigning for students’rights. We need a proactive presidentwho encourages campaigns and self-oorganisation on the ground, and leadsa united movement in the face of harsh and sustained cuts to student supportand our education.

Our education should be a right.IIt should be transformative and accessible, whenever and wherever it suits us in life. We need an educational system that works for everyone. Defend the future of Further EducationOver 70% of our membership are in Further Education. While the government is imposing job losses, funding cuts, and forced mergers, the national crisis in FE is often seen as separate to the rest of the union’s work. Elect me and I will:Work closely with the VP FE to continuestrengthening the #FEunplugged campaign

Identify the ongoing government area reviewsas a key national priority and ensure that FEstudents are at the core of our work

Include FE students and representatives in the dedevelopment of our national events, training days, and actions in order to truly unify our movement

Support NUS Scotland in their campaign for fairer funding for FE students’ associations

Delivering for our students’ needsTThere are many challenges facing students: from students who aim to enter the NHS after graduation, to International students treated as suspects, from vocational courses leading to less jobs and worse pay, to students faced with increasingly limilimited access to mental health services. The overall reality of austerity in Britain is playing itself out in many different ways across our movement. We need to respond to the specic issues students face while campaigning with others for bbroad reforms. Elect me and I will:

Campaign for better Mental Health provisionson campuses alongside the Disabled Students’Campaign

Address the criminalisation of internationalstudents as part of a wider rejection ofxenophobic government agendas

SuppoSupport the #BursaryOrBust campaign, whileworking alongside NHS campaigners for a fair, free, and inclusive health care system for all.
