2. History

  • Malaysia tourism centre is housed in a building which has the distinction of being an important historical and architectural landmark in Kuala Lumpur
  • The main building of this complex was erected in 1935 to serve the resident of a wealthy miner and planter named Eu Tong Seng
  • In keeping with the dictates of the time, it architecture was typically colonial in style
  • In 1941, it housed the war office of British Army but this was short live

3. History

  • When the Japanese invaded Malaya during the Second World War, it became the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army until the end of the war in 1945
  • In 1956, the new government of the then federation of Malaya took ownership of the building
  • A conference hall was added and named Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman, in honor of Yang Teramat Mulia Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the countrys first Prime Minister

4. History

  • Since then, the Dewan has been the scene of numerous historical events such as the sitting of the Malayan Parliament in 1959 and also the installation ceremonies of the first, third, fourth and fifth kings of the country

  • In 1988, the then Ministry of Culture, Arts and tourism refurbished the main building, added two wings to the existing building and renamed it the Malaysia Tourist Information Complex (MATIC)
  • Opened to public since mid August 1989, MATIC is a one stop visitor centre offering a wide range of facilities and services to assist tourist in planning a memorable holiday in Malaysia

  • It also enables them to view and experience the essence of Malaysia within the complex itself through the various shows and demonstrations of various aspect of its culture
  • On the 16 thof February 2001, the complex changed its name to Malaysia Tourism Centre (MATIC) or also known as Pusat Pelancongan Malaysia

9. Tourist Police Counter

  • The tourist police counter is open 24 hours
  • Tourist can enquire on the rules and restrictions while in Malaysia from this counter
  • It also assists tourists by offering consultations on actions to be taken for the loss of important documents and passports
  • The hotline number for this counter is 03-92354999

10. Money Changer

  • The money changer is open from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm
  • Conversions can be done according to the current market rates

11. ATM

  • An ATM is available for tourists to make cash withdrawals
  • The ATM accepts Maybank, Meps, Visa, Plus, Mastercard, American Express, Cirruss and JCB cards
  • Service hours are between 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight

  • Visitors ad tourists to MATIC can get various kinds of souvenirs at this shop being sell at a reasonable price
  • It opens daily from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

  • Cocoa Boutique is another attraction at MATIC where tourist can buy variety of delicious made in Malaysia chocolate

  • Craft shop called Karyaneka also available at MATIC
  • It sells variety of traditional crafts and gift at reasonable price

15. Traxx FM studio (tourism Radio)

  • This radio station is to promote tourism activities in the country, and can be heard at 90.3 FM and 100.1 FM

16. Foyer

  • It is open space made especially for exhibition purposes
  • The space is available for rental and the rate depends on the size of the area required

17. Tunku Abdul Rahman Auditorium Hall

  • This hall can be used to stage arts and cultural performances and very well-equipped with facilities for conferences, seminars, briefings and others
  • With its capacity of 400 people, the hall is available for rental at RM400 per hour
  • It has all the basic facilities such as air conditioning, AV and lighting equipment as well as VIP room

18. Mini Auditorium Hall

  • Staging arts and cultural performances are suitable such as dance, theatre and music performances
  • It is opened for public bookings at RM250 per hour and can accommodate 140 people per performance
  • It is also equipped with basic facilities such as air-conditioning, AV and lighting equipments

19. Open Stage or Amphitheatre

  • Cultural rehearsals and performances take place at this stage
  • It is also opened for public bookings at the rate of RM150 per hour
  • This stage is equipped with basic facilities and has an audience capacity of 300-400 people

20. Cultural Show

  • Be mesmerized by the diversity of the Malaysian culture through the cultural shows and traditional dance performances held every 4 days in a week in the mini auditorium hall
  • This hall can accommodate 140 people and the entrance fee is only RM5.00 for adults and free for children below 12 years of age

21. Saloma Theatre Restaurant

  • Saloma theatre restaurant invites you to A Malaysian Showcase
  • Good food, good service and good entertainment
  • It strategically located in the Golden Triangle, within the shopping, entertainment and business hub
  • The restaurant opens daily from 11 am to 12 midnight and has 350 seating capacity

22. Tourist Information Counter

  • Managed by experienced tourist assistants, tourist can get great tips, advices and guidance on Malaysias tourist attractions, public transportations, hotel accommodations, travelling plans and many more throughout their stay in the country
  • The information counter opens daily from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm

23. Malaysia Travel Business

  • Apart from providing airline ticketing services and hotel reservations, this counter, which is exclusively managed by Malaysia Travel Business (MTB), also presents a wide selection o domestic tour packages targeted to specific groups to meet tourists needs

24. Free Internet Access

  • Tourist can use computer provided by MATIC to surf internet, sent email and visit official website the ministry of tourism
  • Tourist who have laptop, they can use MATIC Wifi Network for free
