MAINLY MOZART FESTIVAL
JUNE 4–20, 2015
Sponsored by Peter Manes & Yoko Sakaguchi
The San Diego
2
He came to prominence as a conductor in 2007 when he replaced an indisposed Valery Gergiev for concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra. One month later he was asked—with only two hours notice—to replace John Adams in a performance of his own works, and soon after, he replaced André Previn in a tour of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony. Since that time, he has led many of the great orchestras of the world, as well as serving as Chief Conductor to Sweden’s Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Florida Orchestra. Maestro Francis has led many of the world’s leading orchestras, among them the New York, Hong Kong, Japan and Royal Philharmonics; San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, London and NHK (Japan) Symphonies and Mariinsky and Tokyo Orchestras.
Now, Michael Francis assumes his role as Music Director of the Mainly Mozart Festival.
We look forward to introducing Maestro Michael Francis to San Diego!
"With a Mainly Mozart Festival, it's very important that Mozart be the center. He is the whole point of it. And I'm really looking forward to exploring more deeply why Mozart is so relevant to us. What it is that attracts us to him."
— Maestro Michael Francis
