The noise walls will extend along David Street and Russell Street to reduce traffic noise from the realignment of Roe Highway. The walls are expected to reduce road traffic noise by approximately five to 10 decibels. The installation of the pre-cast concrete panes will begin in October, with work continuing through to November. The noise walls will range in height from between 2m and 5m, due to changes in topography along this part of Roe Highway. They will be painted in various shades of soft greens on both the highway and residential sides (see Figure 1). These colours have been selected to blend in with the natural environment of the Maida Vale/High Wycombe area, and will complement the soft greens and warm yellows that will be used on the bridges (see Figure 2). In addition, as part of the wall installation process, a small section of the existing wall on the western side of Roe Highway close to the Kalamunda Road intersection will be realigned. Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange Construction Update

Noise wall installation underway

Construction of new noise walls along the eastern side of Roe Highway is underway, with footings installed between Kalamunda Road and Maida Vale Road (see map overleaf).

A subtle flower-inspired pattern will add a touch of brightness to both of the bridge’s structural walls. These geometric shapes have been combined with highlight colours and forms abstracted from the acacia, a flower synonymous with spring in the Perth Hills, reflecting the floral themes used on the other projects in the area. Acacia species will be planted during landscaping, among other native species.
