QuIcK How To: ❉  Every  Friday,  my  students  choose  a  Na#onal

Geographic  magazine  from  my  classroom  collecAon  to  take  home  in  a  gallon  Ziploc  bag  designed  to  keep  the  magazine  protected  and  hold  their  summarizing    materials.

❉  When  they  return  the  next  week,  they  bring  back  the  magazine,  a  pre-‐wriAng  sheet,  a  completed  final  copy  of  a  summary,  and  a  filled  out  rubric.

❉  I  spend  Ame  during  the  week  to  grade  each  summary,  add  my  own  thoughts  to  the  rubric,  and  have  them  ready  to  return  for  a  new  magazine  pick  by  Friday  morning.

❉  I  recommend  laminaAng  the  ‘Neat  Paper  ExpectaAons’  if  you  choose  to  use  this  acAvity  on  a  regular  basis-‐  this  way  you  can  save  some  paper  and  the  kids  can  keep  them  permanently  in  their  bags.  J

The  following  150  words  should  be  ones  that  are  spelled  correctly  in  all  of  your  wriAng,  all  the  Ame,  no  excuse.

Remember,  many  of  these  words  have  homophones-‐  words  that  sound  the  same  but  are  spelled  differently  and  have  different  meanings  such  as  “here  and  hear”  or  “which

and  witch.”  The  highlighted  ones  are  the  trickiest

No Excuse Words
