Title: The power of choice: Health or satisfaction?

Standfirst: BBC Three uncovers the real truth behind students’ choices when it comes to eating,

Name/Date: ‘Are students making bad choices when it comes to eating healthily?’ Thursday, 8pm, BBC Three.

Main bulk of the article: Health is a contemporary and controversial issue within modern society. This issue affects everyone of all ages, but in one group in particular and these are students. BBC Three goes to one of Britain’s leading colleges to find out if students are putting the right things into their bodies.

We interviewed/did a Q&A session with the leading presenter Amber Smith Monteiro about what she found out about this and creating the documentary itself with the documentary producers.

Q: What inspired you to create this documentary?

A: Being a student myself, I see students every day eating junk

food, fast food and I was curious to see how many students actually eat healthy food such eating 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day. i then realised i have the opportunity to share this with other students my age and inform them as to whenever they are making the healthy choices they need to maintain their health.

Q: There are many types of students out there, is there any particular group that you are aiming this documentary towards?

A: No, not at all. This documentary was made with all students

attending sixth form in mind, we want to be able to spread the message to all student no matter their gender or ethnicity as everyone can make use of knowing if they are making the right choice in what to eat.

Q: Why have you chosen Solihull sixth Form as the location for your investigation?

A: We wanted to film the documentary at a location that is usually not shown on media such as TV shows. This sixth form is one of Britain’s leading sixth forms and we wanted to film it somewhere that is very diverse.

Q: What things do you explore in the documentary other than healthy eating?

A: We explore areas of obesity and exercise and how much of an effect this can have on younger people such as students. We wanted to explore a few aspects when it comes to the topic of health, and not just healthy eating. The other factors we explore link and connect to the topic of healthy eating well.

Q: What was it like working with the documentary producers?

A: it was great working with these producers, they were really interested in making the documentary as the topic of health hasn’t really been explored when it comes to younger people, only really with adults.

Q: How do you expect your audience to react to this documentary?

Page 3: Magazine Article g1

A: hopefully the insight into the lifestyles of other student will provide our audience with the information they need to decide whenever they are living a healthy lifestyle. We expect those who find their eating habits have been affecting them in a negative way will respond to our documentary by trying healthier options that will benefits themselves. Though it is true that habits are hard to break out of, with a little determination you can make the right choice.

Separate column

TV Chef Jamie Oliver states that students are not doing enough to look after themselves and stopping themselves from gaining health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.

“young people and students are not doing enough to tackle major health issues, they keep picking the same junk food over

and over again”He’s decided to take matters into his own hands, inspired by the BBC Three documentary ‘Do young people make bad choices when it comes to eating healthily?’, he’s decided to produce a new healthy meal schemes for both schools and colleges, allowing the chefs at these establishments to give young people a chance to change their eating habits to something better.
