The Russo-Japan war

& The Open Door

Policy with the

wrong!!

• The Open Door Policy

was made so America

could get some ground on

China . Most other nations

had trade with China, but

America did not. The

Boxers killed people to

show that his group of

characters were serious.

The name Boxers was

originated in the western

parts of America . The

Boxers gave themselves a

bad reputation from these

dangerous acts on other

nations.

What China &

Japan did is

Wrong!

The war with

Russia was

probably wrong

because Japan was

a nation that kept

itself and never

really bothered

with near by

neighbors. Japan

was doing fine by

itself and by going

to war with Japan

went though a lot.

What China &

Japan did is right!

• The war with Russia and Japan was a battle in which Japan wanted to show it’s power. Japan got some territory along with the war. By Japan winning the war with the Russians and becomes the most powerful army in East Asia . America makes the Open Door Policy so America could get some trade from China and never heard back and takes it as a yes. The Boxer Rebellion was a group of socialists who killed foreign missionaries and Chinese Christians. In June 1900 the Boxers attacked the capitol city of Beijing and killed hundreds.

The Hawaiian

annexation

• The Hawaiian annexation transformed Hawaii and its people in two ways.Hawaii is 2,000 miles west of California, it was a convenient spot for the U.S. It was good for naval bases and coaling stations for ships traveling to and from Asia. American had sweet tooth and loved sugar. They wanted Hawaii for its sugar cane tycoons and pineapple plantations

Captain Cook arrived in Hawaii in1778 where he established a

monarchy. There was profitable trade in sandalwood. In the

1820s, brought with him missionaries and traders from New

England to Hawaii. But with Cook there was diseases and

Hawaiians had no immunity. The Hawaiian population declined

from 300,000 (1770s) to 40,000 (1893). Americans

investigated in sugar industry, Hawaiian sugar growers grew

rich off of the Americans. Not many Native planters were left

after the diseases, so Hawaiians brought workers from Japan,

China, and the Philippines.

Spanish

American war

• Shaky reports by The Journal about the sinking of the U.S. Maine used yellow journalism, causing the Spanish-American War and the battle at San Juan Hill.

• Yellow journalism also caused the Spanish American War. The Journal stretched the truth. and said the cause of the explosion was because of a Spanish attack on the Untied States. Why they did this was because of another newspaper company was selling more papers then the Journal. So the Journal decided to make up the story about the USS Maine being sunk by the Spanish. Shaky reports on The Maine and yellow journalism led to the Battle at San Juan Hill. The Battle of San Juan Hill , also known as the battle for the San Juan Heights, was a decisive battle of the Spanish-American War. it was also the most violent and bloody battle of the war. It is also where future vice-president and president, Theodore Roosevelt was awarded the Metal of Honor. if the Journal didn't stretched the truth using yellow journalism, the whole Spanish-American war could have never happened

Sinking of the

Maine

Shaky reports by The Journal about the

sinking of the U.S. Maine caused the

Spanish American war. How did this help

cause a war? Well when the Maine exploded

many people thought it was do to the

Spanish attacking. Why people thought that

was because during this time period

America and Spain were not having the best

relations.
