Our own hometown hero, Col. Michael McCoy had flown nearly two dozen combat missions during WWII. McCoy
Air Force Base was named in his memory and was the area’s largest employer prior to Disney’s arrival in 1971. The
base was redeveloped into Orlando International Airport in 1975 which still bears the base’s original FAA code,
MCO.
